Excellent review, bud. VERY few UA-camrs these days are able to do a video that gets through the info, detailed but still concise and not laden with 1000 cuts. Great job. I'm 99% convinced already to get these as I literally have yet to read a negative review of them.
Thanks for leaving a comment. I admit that when I made the purchase I was a bit worried as I have never auditioned them before. But wow, there are no regrets now. Take the plunge! You won’t regret it.
Good testimonial... I still have the old school BP10s( x 6), a CLR2002 AND a SuperCube IIs from BayBoorRadio, so I appreciate your caveats coming from a DEF TECH background. I just LOVE the identical room-wide timbre. I LOVE my BP10s. I'm however VERY keen on the numerous owner reviews for this speaker, and its adjacent lines. It sounds like my Yammy A2080 amps won't cut it though, I would likely have to obtain new separates beforehand, especially if these are 4ohm nominal. I am quite happy for the result you spoke of, congrats. THX for the review and the testimonial, I am encouraged.
I own none of Emotiva gears, but after months of research on audio gears I've become a fan of Emotiva amps and speakers. Glad to stumble across another fan of Emotiva. Do you have Airmotiv B1+ or B2+? If so, it would be great to see your reviews on them. This video won my subscription, just fyi.
Wonderful Review!! My pair Just arrived today. I am floored. These are memorable speakers. I'm giving them 480 watts from the emotiva xpa7. For the money, greatest purchase hands down.. noway these speakers are worth this low.. emotiva really REALLY, set the bar. I'm running everything emotiva now!!
Wow you are the reviewer that I'm looking for! Most of them don't include center channels, it's been months that im looking for a review like this. You just helped me to decide on what to buy! Thank you! For movie watching, I wonder how these stack up against wharfedale evo 4.4 and 4.c wich also is a massive center channel and also a 3 way speaker with amt tweeter.
Appreciate the kind words. The big thing that sticks out is that if you’re running this off a receiver then I would go Wharfedale. If you have a separate amplifier then go Emotiva. The Emotiva is a 4ohm speaker so it really does need an amp. The Wharfedale is an 8ohm so it will suit an AVR better (with no separate amp). Hope this helps and thanks again for watching snd liking. 👍
@@GedSmyth perfect answer I was looking for Mr. Smyth. Thanks for so much. I have EVO 4.2 bookshelves with Evo 4.C center channel and pioneer atmos speakers for Rear channel. I’m waiting for the New Onkyo AVR which is coming this June 2021.
Nice Review. I own a pair of T2+ that I purchased about 2 weeks ago. You can certainly run these with a powerful receiver. I run mine with an Outlaw RR2160 MkII . 160 watts per channel in 4 ohms, no issue at all. It just has to be a good receiver that can handle 4 ohm loads. I use them for music only. They are in my man cave so I don't mind the black finish. But I think a logo of some kind, maybe a horizontal nickel colored strip with a logo just below the speaker grill would go a long way with aesthetics. Thanks again for the review.
Interesting thought on the logo idea. It would look great, but I do also love the matte black finish for a theatre application. I’m glad you’re enjoying them and I appreciate the kind words. If you ever run it as a home theatre application, that C2+ is amazing.
This is too funny. I have the Outlaw RR2160 MkII running Elac B6's and I just placed the order for the T2+'s this morning. And now I run across this reply. I figured it would be a great combo but it's good to hear feedback from someone who is actually doing it. Have you noticed that both the 2160 and the T2+ are on Stereophile's list of recommended equipment? If you scour that list looking for affordable gear, this is a combo you end up with which is partially why I'm doing it.
Great review, I love these speakers I run a Denon x4500h, with a upa 5 amp using a C2, for center a pair of C1’s for my fronts the E1’s for my backs just ordered the E2+ for my sides and using Micca 8” for my atmos which I will probably change out for the Airmotiv atmos inceilings next year awesome stuff have a great day
@@DarinBuss After much deliberation yes, I left them on large. The Denon can divert all LFE to just the subs. I know this is a bit of a no-no, however, the depth in vocals and the overall strength of the front sound stage gives me zero regrets. I do also have them running on 15" Pyle Acoustic pads which may help (fronts, centre and subs upfront).
I replaced my Definitives with the Airmotiv T1+ and just love the open airyness of the ribbon, mids and upper bass range of these. I use a Denon 4400 with a 3 channel Anthem for the front stage and the Denon runs the back and atmos. However as with most towers, if you want that 20 to 35hz range a good subwoofer or two are needed.
Incompletely agree. I have a Denon 4300 so our setup is somewhat similar. I moved the crossover to 40hz on the towers with the having 2 subs out front and found it helped. With the sub cross at 80 there is a great blend in the way up. Thanks for watching! I appreciate it.
Can not thank you enough for the kind words. Really glad you are enjoying it. I have a blast doing them. Stay tuned for another top 5 to drop at 8am EST.
Thanks for the review! I’m using a Denon X3300W and I just ordered the T2+, C2+, and BasX A3 to drive them. I’ll be very interested to see how they compare to existing my SVS Prime center + towers. I’m a bit nervous about how the ribbon tweeter will sound, but here’s to hoping I’ll like them! And I have to figure out how I’m going to fit that C2+ into my setup….it’s massive compared to the SVS prime center!
I actually looked at the SVS system you’re talking about as well. As much as the towers really peaked my interest, I didn’t feel the centre would do what I needed. That C2+ is AMAZING! I assume your low frequency response from the SVS may be tough to beat however that’s not a concern if you have a sub or 2. Let me know how you like them. I’m super curious to hear your thoughts. The ribbon tweeters surpassed all my expectations!!! I find them super lively without being too dynamic. Keep me posted.
@@GedSmyth well, my shipment came in and I got to listening to both sets of speakers powered by the BasX A3 and processing done on a Denon X3300W. Music was lossless through the Apple TV with Apple Music. I used a couple 4K Blu-rays as well. We kept switching out speakers for repeated listening tests to get a good idea of the differences. Both my wife agreed that the SVS center was noticeably better in tone for vocals. “Smooth” is the thing that kept coming to mind for SVS. The towers were equally matched in sound quality for me. I love the look of the Emotiva but they did not play nice in my room when it came down to measurements! 8-12dB swings under 300Hz after room correction…I tried all sorts of positions in my limited space and nothing worked. In the end, since we both strongly preferred the SVS center, I’m keeping the LCR timber matched so the Emotivas are likely headed back. Its a bit sad because loved the size and presence of the T2+ towers! I’m definitely keeping the BasX A3 to power my planned 7.2.4 surround upgrade later though.
Ged awesome video I'm really contemplating a whole emotiva setup 7.1.6 surround system with the airmotiv in ceilings but there is not many videos out there to watch. Keep up the good work
Really appreciate the kind words Brandon. It was a bit of a gamble no doubt but wow are they stunning. 7.1.6 would be a very cool setup. Would be interested to see how you’re laying that out. What will you run for XPA? XPA - 11 and an XPA - 5?
@@GedSmyth I'm running a denon 6700h with a emotiva mps1 7channel by 200 and probably run the ceiling atmos off the denon till I find something to push them. Right now I'm running svs prime towers and center with for prime satellites and 6 polk rc60i for atmos and 2 Psa TV2112 woofers sounds really great but I want everthing to match
Hi, Sir have only Denon 2700h avr, I don’t have any amplifier, can I use this emotive c2+ as center channel speaker for my home theatre room, l will be waiting for ur reply
You can but it won’t open up as ideally you would run a separate amp. It will work…. It just won’t sound as good as it could. Especially if you’re running other speakers off the 2700
@@GedSmyth so really quite unlikely it seems that I can drive these just with my denon x4700 alone right? That's a pity. I am really swayed by your review but I don't want to go through the hassle (and space) for another amplifier
Great review! Since my use is primarily home theater, I opted for the the T0's paired with the C2+. I enjoy what I get from the T0's so I can only imagine how much more I would get if I had purchased the T2+'s.
Appreciate the comment. The T0 look fantastic! The Centre is so important also great call running that. I have towers as my rears. Would love to replace them with T0. The front Atmos height will be next (to replace the Klipsch I have)
Omg this a great review, we’ve both been going same direction by using def tech. After getting XPA 3 Gen 3 to pair with Denon X4500H coupled with all JBL studio series i was blown. In my next project will definitely get all the emotiva line ups.
Can’t thank you enough for the kind words. I tried to make it as real as I could. It was scary to spend a chunk of money without auditioning them. But after my experience I wanted as many people to know as possible. Next up for me is a BasX 300 and the matching Atmos speaker for front height. Really appreciate you watching. I hope you subscribed and gave the 👍
I'm getting the Onkyo TX-RZ50 which states it is compatible with 4-16ohm speakers, sort of frustrating that these AVR's state that in their specs but then can't run 4ohm speakers. I was really interested in Emotiva's entire setup, but they are all 4 ohm.
It’s true. Emotiva speakers do prefer a 4 ohm load (especially for the front). The B1+ I believe is rated at 8 (I just got them but haven’t set them up yet). Speakers need power to move over that many channels. Even one of the smaller BassX would do the trick so you don’t need to put out huge money. Just a thought.
The downside is, to get full potential, you do need to run them through an amp and not just through a receiver. It’s not for everyone, if getting a quality amp is out of your price range.
You are correct. Any 4ohm speaker you would ideally want to run off an amp. There is the odd AVR that can run 4ohm but they are few and far between. If I was running off AVR I would take a look at SVS or Monolith (cause Klipsch is too easy of an answer lol). However if a. If centre was a priority then Klipsch is tough to beat as the other two only have a 20” ish wide centre option.
Been waffling between these and a set of Polk LSIM-707s, which I am having trouble finding. Thanks for another data point for me to consider. And I can't believe you don't have more subscribers..... froma a fellow Canuck (Ottawa)
I really appreciate the kind words pal. The first question I would ask is are you running an external amp or from your AVR? If AVR then I would say Polk (great pick by the way). If you’re going to run external amp power like an Emotiva/ monolith etc then I would say the Emotiva speaker as it’s designed to run at 4ohm. Running the Emotiva off an AVR you would be disappointed.
@@GedSmyth hey thanks for the follow up! Yeah I'm actually running monoblocks up front, three XPA-1L which will do down to about two ohms but is rated to 4 ohms at 500 watts. I also have the emotiva C2 center already and that's 4ohm as well I believe
Yup. That correct. Then unless you’re going to replace your centre as well then I would say Emotiva all the way for the fronts. It’s a bit tricky as there is no way to ‘audition’ them before purchase. It was a risk…. But one I’m glad I took.
Great review dude! But I got a question. I'm more of a 2-channel stereo guy. Do you think these T2+'s can be run without a subwoofer? Will they produce a full range sound? Or are they really lacking down there and gotta add a sub or 2? I mean they are kinda short, so plopping them on top of a 12 or 15 inch subwoofer might elevate them a bit. But it would be awesome if they don't even need a sub. Specs say they go down to 35hz. But I wanna hear what you think. Subs mandatory or not really? Thanks!
I love this question ! When I first ran them I had them set at full range. As long as you add an acoustic pad under the towers (like pyle audio 15”x 15”) and they are being powered by a good 2 channel separate amp like an XPA2 or even the new A2. No sub means juice is needed to move those cones. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you end up running them as I would love to hear your feedback. Thank you for watching and I hope you subscribe.
@@GedSmyth Thanks for replying but my question was more about "Can I get away with not having subs or will I be missing out?" I know I can just not buy a sub, but if I will be missing a significant portion of the good stuff, then I wouldn't want to make that compromise. But if on the other hand, if you say "no music goes below 40hz" and since these can produce down to 35, these alone should be able to reproduce all music. Do you know what percentage of music is in the sub 40hz region? Is there a lot in the 20hz to 35hz region? I don't know, that's why I'm asking. And I know some people might say "it depends on what you listen to." Well I don't plan on limiting myself so I kinda want a speaker that can handle everything regardless of what I actually like listening to. So what do you think? Is there a lot of information in the sub 40hz region in music? Or are you more of a home theater guy and HiFi is not your thing but rather LFE. Thanks!
Not sure if we got our wires crossed here. My answer was you can totally get away with not running a sub for 2 channel music as long as you have a good 2 channel amp to move the cones in the towers. It won’t ‘boom’ like the addition of the sub however with proper powered amplifier it will create full range really well especially in mid and low bass frequencies. I hope that helped.
@@springsprouts1673 For films, you'd need a good sub. For music, if you only listen to acoustic jazz and orchestral music, you're fine without a sub. The lowest note on an acoustic bass (without drop D tuning or a C extender) is E1 at 41.2Hz. Most kick and bass drums hit above that. On the other hand, if you listen to music where low bass is a feature of the music, you'll want a good sub.
I am actually fixing on using exclusively C2+ centers as my mains speakers. 4 of them in a 4.0 Quadraphonic music and radio play listening room, and 5 of them in a 5.1 surround sound screening room. I never could warm up to towers and surrounds, although I have some bookshelves next to my computer workstation. But I want all speakers in the room to be proper 3-ways, thus the Airmotiv center channels.
This is the first time I have heard of this type of setup. Although the towers are amazing, I’m very fascinated with the idea of strictly running centres. Thank you for sharing this super unique but awesome setup. And I appreciate you watching. I hope you subscribe and toss me a 👍
I’m planning on something similar. I have a C1+ and a C2+ with B1+ as LR. Im trying to decide which one to buy another of to use as LR and move the B1’s to surround duty. I’m using the C1 as my center atm. My space isn’t particularly big. But whatever I choose the front stage will be pretty damned good. I’ll bet your setups sound amazing. Glad someone else had the same idea!
Check the actual reviews professional testing of the c2+ it had horrible lobbing issues due to the silly driver configuration. The c1+ has much better off axis performance
Couple of questions. Was it was of the + series or an older? I know one of the things they addressed in the current series was the equalization of frequencies. The other question I would have is was it attached to a power source capable of 4ohm? I could see it sounding hissy at 8ohm.
That is a deal breaker for me...When I hear that sss high in voice when speaking, it just kills my listening desire. I wonder if it even makes a difference in 4 vs 8 ohm.
Hi Ged, good video 👍 I am currently running Klipsch R-820F towers, RP-600C center and 4 x klipsch R51M surrouds. Have 4 x Polk RC80i in-ceiling atmos speakers. Receiver is Yamaha RX-A3080 plus Emotiva XPA-5 gen 3. I am looking to change Klipsch. If I go for: T2+ Towers C2+ centre E2+ surrouds x 4 A1 atmos x 4 Do you think its a real upgrade or am I downgrading my current system? Your video is making me inclined to pull the trigger to buy all Emotiva speakers. Your feedback will be much appreciated. Thanks, Diamond
I appreciate the message and I hope you enjoyed the video. This is an interesting debate as there are so many variables. I looked at the Klipsch a lot when I was doing my change over. The difference to my ears was how accurate the T2+ and C2+ were. As much as I love Klipsch I don’t love the sound of their ‘horn’ tweeter. This is something that is a personal opinion as people like to hear things differently. Both speakers have great dispersion. The Emotiva will be able to accurately play quite loud as they a 4ohm speaker and you’re running the correct amp to power them. It will sound different then what you have now. Will it be an upgrade? That depends on how your ears like the change. I hope this helps and thanks again for the support. Let me know what you end up doing 👍
Hi Ged. I live in Alberta so I'm curious how much it cost you to get these in Canada after conversion and shipping. Hopefully you don't mind me asking what you paid after conversion?
I have a Yamaha 3080 ... I just bought the bookshelf pair and center , waiting for a little money to get the T2 plus... so you’re saying run the Yamaha at 4 ohms with an emotiva gen 3 amp?
Good morning. With the 3080 being able to run 4ohm then you could for sure run it off the AVR. Please keep in mind that power ratings for AVR are normally printed based on 2 channels driven and not 9 (3080 is a 9.2 powered). If you had the ability to run an XPA - 3 for even just the fronts it would open your audio world up. If not then the T2+ and C2+ will still run great and down the road if you can amp them then all the better. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching snd commenting. I hope you will hit the old ‘subscribe’. Cheers.
That is a great question. I would say I spend 6-7 hours a week. Sometimes 10 for more if we are going through something. I’m not down there every night.
JBL 5 series is superior and usually cheaper. The center is the weak point but the c2+ actually works well with the JBLs. Just be sure you fall within the 20° angle from center as the center has limited off-axis performance
Are the JBL 5 series a 4 ohm speaker? If so that’s amazing and it’s great to know they would pair well with the C2+. I find the off axis in the C2+ to be fantastic as in my theatre space there is a good amount of off axis (30-35 degrees). Mind you it does help based on the footprint of it.
@@GedSmyth 6ohms. You can see measurements of the c2+ of axis and after 20 degrees it gets very bad. Sorry but not sure how you are finding it good at 30 to each side of the center. Obviously we all have different ears but measurements don't lie. I like the c2+ but only recommend it when people is in the safe zone
That’s great to know. Your are correct though, we all have different ears and different environments which all play factors. I appreciate your insight 👍
Thanks for the question. The short answer to it is yes. The new A3 is rated at 200 per channel at 4 ohm. The speaker needs minimum 100 and runs continuous at 200. Would it be ideal to run something a bit bigger like an XPA3? Sure. But the A3 will run them. If you pick it up I would love to hear your feedback on them. The T2+ / C2+ are a great combo. Thanks for watching and I hope you subscribe 👍
I've been looking for speakers to do a 5.2.4 or 7.2.4 setup and I was looking at SVS prime pinnacle or SVS Ultra line but, how do the T2+ compare to SVS?
The SVS stuff is incredible. I love their towers. The reason I went Emotiva was because SVS doesn’t offer a large centre speaker. In my room there is a good amount of people that are ‘off axis’. I didn’t feel the SVS centre would cover the required space (it’s 21” or so wide). The Emotiva is 34” or so with 60 degrees of dispersion. If I was in a room where the only positions were directly in front of the centre then it would be tough to argue with what SVS product. Plus if you’re running the speakers off an AVR receiver (and not getting separate amps) then Emotiva is not your best option. SVS are 8ohm speakers and will do better off an AVR. I hope this helped and I appreciate you watching the video! Please like and subscribe.
@@GedSmyth The setup will be in a open family room and I will have off axis seating as well. I'm going to do separates with a processor and amp. Thank you for the info!
More than welcome. In my opinion the size and specs of the centre will be even more critical than the fronts. I would look at an Emotiva. Perhaps a Klipsch. Or look at companies specifically make a large 33-36” centre with good dispersion and sound properties you love.
Although I did use a sub during setup I also ran them at full bandwidth and turned off the subs to hear them. They were clean and full. Sub is always ideal and when I added it I turned the crossover to 40hz. Musically they were beautiful. Movies were great but sub is always better if you have more room to fill. If the room is small you almost don’t need it.
Based on the size and it being a 4ohm speaker, I would not run without one. Having said that, it will run and still sound good. You will get the benefits of it’s size, the amazing low crossover point, and the crazy dispersion for off axis listening. It just won’t fully open up and be as airy as you may want it to be. I hope my answer helps. Regardless you won’t be disappointed with the purchase. And if you add an amp one day then even better. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. I hope you liked the review. Cheers.
Good morning. That’s a good question. I think when you look at amps around the same price point it all comes down to preference and what you have a had a good experience with. Both have XLR and RCA as well as similar power ratings. The one major difference is weight. 58lbs for an XPA-7 and 93lbs for the 7 channel Monolith. Either way you’re getting in to a beautiful monster of an amp and I’m sure you will be blown away by it. I enjoy the Emotiva story and their ideas behind audio. But Monolith is a great piece. I know that wasn’t a direct answer however both are awesome. I hope this helps your audio journey. Thanks for watching and I hope you will hit subscribe.
@@GedSmyth These are all good points! I am thinking of an emotiva amp either way. One thing is that the Monolith is front ported so in theory I should be able to put them closer against the wall. But I am leaning toward the emotiva speakers!
@@GedSmyth LCR upgrade for my home theater and my room. I have klpisch RP 8 (older towers with 8 inch woofers) and in my room I’m running some Sony towers. Both set ups need dedicated amplification. Subs need an upgrade in my theater.
Ahhhhh well that helps. I was just looking at the tower specs and they look fantastic!!! They will sound very different than your Klipsch especially in the tweeter. Different isn’t bad. For me it came down a lot to the centre. The Monolith is about 21” wide. Vs the Emotiva at 34”. The Emotiva also has a lower crossover point for depth in voice. The larger footprint will help with covering dialogue and off axis dispersion. If you don’t have to worry about off axis viewing in your room then the monolith look tough to beat. I’m in an open room and the larger centre was a big priority. That’s probably more what you were looking for. Hope that helps.
Thanks for your very good review on these T2's! I have the original NAD 316 bee and it's dynamic power @ 4 ohms is 120 watts, and what I'm looking for is if it's sufficient to run the T2's for music and some movies. My listening volume is low to medium. Thanks!
Hey there Leo. They are rated for 100-500W per channel (amplifier power) so you should have no issue at all. They are rated to top out at 200 (in the speaker). Give them a run and if you are using for surround then don’t forget to grab the C2+. Hope this helps and don’t be afraid to subscribe and give me a 👍 (makes me feel important lol)
That’s a good question. Personally I wouldn’t run them off just a receiver unless it was for stereo. AVR power stats are based on 2 channels driven. If you have a 7.1 (for example) there is way less power going to each. At that point I don’t think there wound be nearly enough for these to breathe and give the head room you would want. Just my 2 cents as I know we all want the most out of our setup. Having said that, if I planned on adding an amp later I would get them and just know they won’t be amazing until the amp arrives. If you’re going to run off an AVR then I would suggest a more efficient 8ohm speaker like a Polk or klipsh or something if that nature. There are some great videos on u see standing how to find how efficient a speaker is. One of my favourite guys ‘Youthman’ does a great job at this.
If you have the space in your room, are comfortable with the budget increase, and can power then with an amp then I wound say yes. They truly are a speaker that punch WAY above their price point.
@@GedSmyth I am using an Emotiva A3 for the front stage now and an a300 for the two rear surrounds. I have the room but at some point I think about the law of diminishing returns.
Well that’s fair and makes perfect sense. I guess it would come down to the question: does what you have sound perfect to you? If it does then don’t touch it. If you’re finding that you’re missing something, just that little extract head room or dynamic range or uuumph…… then I say pull the trigger. They are stunning.
Would you still need an separate amp if I am using only the t2+ pair? Also please advise about the svs towers and any budgeted but decent and adequate av receiver. Thanks. How do you think svs stand against klipsch, Wharfedale, monolith and kef. Please advise thanks.
I think first things first you need to narrow it down to 2. Klipsch are a unique sounding speaker so I would try and audition them. If you love them then that’s your speaker. If you are running off a receiver then I would steer you away from the T2+ as they are 4ohm. Monothith are THX certified which to me means they will be crazy dynamic. All of these are gorgeous it just depends on what your ear likes to hear snd your room setup is like. I’m intrigued by Monolith. I love what I know of SVS and this amazing super towers. Kef and Warfedale I haven’t had a chance to play with yet.
Depending on the receiver and how many of these you were trying to drive. If you had a 7 channel or larger and wanted to drive just the front two then it would be ok (in my opinion). However, if the goal is to drive 5 channels and this front and centre are part of it, I would add a BASX A5 or A7 to help the speaker open up.
@@GedSmyth thank you for your reply, I have been looking a the cinema 50 so I could have a 7.4.2 plus a decent listening in stereo. I will look in to adding extra amps or al least one for the stereo listening. Thanks. the reason i'm looking at the Marantz is because it supports Auro 3D and its supposed to sound great in stereo
Man you really got me ready to jump....cuz Im on the fence. I originally thought Klilsch 280f or the new 8000, then I thought SVS Prime Pinnacle....now.. ??
Happy to take you through my thought process. I love Klipsch but I don’t love the feel of their horn tweeter (not that it’s bad... just not what my ear loves). Also these (Emotiva) being a 4ohm speaker and running amps made it a slam dunk. I also looked at SVS and I am a huge fan of the super tower. Why I didn’t go that route is, as I explained in the video I have off axis listening with guests and wanted a massive centre with huge dispersion. The size of the SVS was the same as what I had. If SVS made a big 34-36” long monster centre then it wound have been real close. Do you run off an AVR or are you powering through separate amps?
Ooooohhh such a gorgeous piece. I run an XPA3. I have to say that I am more and more blown away by these each week. However you are looking at great stuff. Have you auditioned / owned Klipsch ? Their horn tweeter is something you either love or could odd on.
@@GedSmyth I never have had Klipsch. I've always had Polk Audio entry level stuff and want to upgrade without going $$$ crazy. I've watched a ton of videos and people say you either love Klipsch or hate them. I do want crisp, clear, clean dialog because we watch a lot of tv/movies and love loud music.
Totally understand. It’s so hard to be objective. These speakers are (in my opinion) the best kept secret in home audio. The centre is insane and the towers cover mid base beautifully. The dialogue is crisp and tight and very pronounced but not ‘tweaky’’. My last speakers I really missed the joy of music. But these have blown my mind. Again, all the stuff you’re looking at is great. But if you’re going to compare these to a klipsh you better be ready to spend Reference 7 money.
Hey Ged! Great review. As a fellow Canadian from Toronto, how did the Emotiva shipping go in terms of customs/brokerage? Did they end up using UPS or DHL. Also did you pick them up during Black Friday?
Hey there fellow Ontarian! Shipping was awesome. It came via UPS and took about 4-5 days. When it hit customs I was able to pre pay (was about $230 for everything which was a pleasant surprise) and yes I picked it up when there was a 20% back in Emotiva money. So I purchased the T2+ and then purchased the centre. I hope this helped. Thanks for watching the review and hopefully the unboxing (the other video I did which may be valuable based on your getting it shipped). If you liked it I hope you will subscribe and give me the old thumbs up! This stuff is so much fun to do.
@@GedSmyth When you say "when it hit customs" was this through UPS or was it through Emotiva? I've had some bad experiences with UPS where it shows up on your door and they slap an insane brokerage fee as part of the delivery.
It was through UPS and you can track it online. They will send you a link so you can pay it before it drops. I expected it to be higher than it was. And unfortunately you have to wait for it. No one will be able to tell you the amount before (hence why I shared mine with you).
Lol that’s awesome. I should have started it off by apologizing hahaha. Next review I will hold a cup of Tim Hortons and do the review in hockey gloves 👍. Cheers man.
Thanks for the review. Interested in these but let's be honest; Emotiva makes some really ugly speakers. Vinyl black & ugly, the ultimate man-cave speaker but not really anything you want in a nice living room tbh.
A sound demo was something I battled with for a while. My concern with a sound demo was that there are always so many variables. From the room acoustics to the mic interpretation. I will run a couple of tests and if I come up with something I will reply in this thread. Cheers and I hope you enjoyed the video.
@@GedSmyth I ended up buying the T2’s and sold my old Paradigms. The sound signature of these towers are amazing and they stage great. The cabinets are built like tanks with all the bracing. I been looking at them for a while and glad I pulled the trigger. Now I understand the comment you made when you said you felt like you stole them at the price they’re asking. I feel the same way. Thanks for sharing your experience with them. Your video was spot on.
Correct. And have not been disappointed in the slightest. It was a risk when I was doing it but worked out great. Appreciate you watching the video cheers.
@@GedSmyth What had gotten you to pay so much more for separates in the first place instead of receiver, when there are very efficient and 8ohm sensitive speakers? Yes, your video is good stuff.
That’s a good question. As efficient as 8ohm speakers can get and as good as receivers are, they will never be able to touch the consistent power of a separate amp. By the time you split 9-11 channels over an amp rated at 100 watts per channel (2 channels driven stated in small print) there just isn’t the juice left for good detail in the audio track. To me it’s like thinking about a highway, and cars are audio information. The more cars the merrier regardless of the speed (volume) they travel. Separates guarantee ample juice flowing regardless of the volume. The experience is indeed in another level. When efficiency is traded for proper power, then everyone wins.
So how are they so far? Was I wrong?
@@GedSmyth love em! Zero complaints 👌🏾
Man that’s awesome!! So glad to hear. Enjoy ! Let me know if you add anything else.
@@GedSmyth I have everything from emotiva. 11 channels.
Great review, I love these speakers I run a Denon x4500h, with a upa 5 amp using a C2, for center a pair of C1’s for my fronts the E1’s for my backs just ordered the E2+ for my sides and using Micca 8” for my atmos which I will probably change out for the Airmotiv atmos inceilings next year awesome stuff have a great day
Appreciate the kind words. These might be the best kept secret out there. Love that setup you have going on. Thanks for leaving a comment.
@@GedSmyth did you say you left your speakers on large settings or switched it to small ?
@@DarinBuss After much deliberation yes, I left them on large. The Denon can divert all LFE to just the subs. I know this is a bit of a no-no, however, the depth in vocals and the overall strength of the front sound stage gives me zero regrets. I do also have them running on 15" Pyle Acoustic pads which may help (fronts, centre and subs upfront).
@@GedSmyth I’ll have to try it ty
Great review! Thanks for the detailed info. Breaking it down to cover both music and movie soundtrack playback was very helpful. 👍👍
Appreciate the kind words. They are a pleasure to run. It won’t be the last Emotiva speaker I purchase, that’s for sure.
This review made me a subscriber. Looking forward to more content.
Appreciate the kind words. Working on something with a local spot. Hope to bring more of this content in 2021.
Underrated channel, Great review!
Can not thank you enough for the kind words. Really glad you are enjoying it. I have a blast doing them. Stay tuned for another top 5 to drop at 8am EST.
Can confirm Star Wars The Mandalorian sounded 👌 on these.
Ya there was no question there.

Hi, Sir have only Denon 2700h avr, I don’t have any amplifier, can I use this emotive c2+ as center channel speaker for my home theatre room, l will be waiting for ur reply
You can but it won’t open up as ideally you would run a separate amp. It will work…. It just won’t sound as good as it could. Especially if you’re running other speakers off the 2700

Appreciate that. It’s was fun todo and these are stunning speakers.
Nice work bro! I love your review!
I really appreciate the kind words man. I mean. I had so much fun doing it. And the speakers still sound amazing.
I hope you subscribed and gave the 👍
Loving the new intro!
Thanks man! Had a good friend create it.
I don't have room for towers...would the b1+ bookshelves pair well with the c1+?
Absolutely they would. Are you going to power then with a receiver ? Or will you be using a separate amp as well?
@@GedSmyth I planned on just a regular AVR like a Denon 3700 or 3800
Really nice review with useful information.
Would you go with Wharfedales on a Outlaw RR 2160 mkii or Emotivas with Cambridge Audio separates?
Those are great questions. For the value it’s tough to beat the Emotiva product. The lineup you’re talking about also sound brilliant.
Their amps are really good I have two!
They really are! I may have gone overboard by getting 3 of them but they are super clean….. and heavy lol.
@@GedSmyth Svs
Emotiva Basx amps are a really good value. I paid 699 for my BasX A7 7 channel amp. 90x7 at 8 ohms, 125x7 at 4 ohms. My T2+ sound great on it.
But one I’m glad I took.
excellent review, Ged. Can Marantz SR6013 drive T1+ and C1+? , Is there a way to check ?
Apparently it will run a 4 ohm load. Ideally however you would run it off a separate amp like three BasX A3.
I had a pair of the bookshelves. I liked them, but not what i was looking for. The tweeter is nice, but it can be a little "s" ie.
Couple of questions. Was it was of the + series or an older? I know one of the things they addressed in the current series was the equalization of frequencies. The other question I would have is was it attached to a power source capable of 4ohm?
I could see it sounding hissy at 8ohm.
@@GedSmyth the + series @ 8.
That is a deal breaker for me...When I hear that sss high in voice when speaking, it just kills my listening desire. I wonder if it even makes a difference in 4 vs 8 ohm.
Hi Ged, good video 👍
I am currently running Klipsch R-820F towers, RP-600C center and 4 x klipsch R51M surrouds. Have 4 x Polk RC80i in-ceiling atmos speakers. Receiver is Yamaha RX-A3080 plus Emotiva XPA-5 gen 3.
I am looking to change Klipsch. If I go for:
T2+ Towers
C2+ centre
E2+ surrouds x 4
A1 atmos x 4
Do you think its a real upgrade or am I downgrading my current system?
Your video is making me inclined to pull the trigger to buy all Emotiva speakers. Your feedback will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Diamond
No I don’t mind at all. I think by the time the towers got here with shipping and duty and all that fun stuff it was about $1,800
I have a Yamaha 3080 ...
Cheers.
@@GedSmyth thanks dude that was my concern if I had to get the Emotiva 3 channel amp. I’ll add it down the road. Cheers
On average how many hours a week would you say you listen to this setup, after all IMO this is a true test of quality set up!
That is a great question. I would say I spend 6-7 hours a week. Sometimes 10 for more if we are going through something. I’m not down there every night.
The Airmotiv T2+ Pair Floorstanding Tower Loudspeakers comes as a pair of 2 speakers right?
Yes. That is correct. Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoyed it.
@@GedSmyth thanks for the video
@@shaolin95 what center do you recommend for wider seating area with Studio towers? 3 towers is not an option for me.
Do you think the new Emotiva A3 amp will be able to push the T2+/C2+ speakers?
Thanks for the question. The short answer to it is yes. The new A3 is rated at 200 per channel at 4 ohm. The speaker needs minimum 100 and runs continuous at 200. Would it be ideal to run something a bit bigger like an XPA3? Sure. But the A3 will run them.
If you pick it up I would love to hear your feedback on them. The T2+ / C2+ are a great combo. Thanks for watching and I hope you subscribe 👍
They are 4ohms but around 91 db so they are very efficient at 4ohms any amp that is stable at 4ohms can drive them
I've been looking for speakers to do a 5.2.4 or 7.2.4 setup and I was looking at SVS prime pinnacle or SVS Ultra line but, how do the T2+ compare to SVS?
Were you using sub with these setup? If no then how is the bass when listening to music and movies.
About needing an amp, do you think it's needed if I just get the center speaker?
Based on the size and it being a 4ohm speaker, I would not run without one. Having said that, it will run and still sound good. You will get the benefits of it’s size, the amazing low crossover point, and the crazy dispersion for off axis listening. It just won’t fully open up and be as airy as you may want it to be.
I hope my answer helps. Regardless you won’t be disappointed with the purchase. And if you add an amp one day then even better.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. I hope you liked the review. Cheers.
I’m curious if the monoprice monoliths are better or worse
Are you looking at Speakers, Subs or Amps?
Thanks for your help! For some reason I thought that I subscribed yesterday, but I just did now. Thanks again!
I have a denon x3600h. will that be ok to drive this setup or do i need a 4ohm amp?
Are the T2's worth upgrading from the T1's?
@@GedSmyth what about elac? Elac debut b52 or airmotiv b1+ ?
so not even a Marantz receiver would drive them?
@@GedSmyth I just bought the Emotiva XPA Gen 3 5 channel last week. It will be here in a few days 😉
There is absolutely a break in time for speakers.
@@GedSmyth thanks for the details!
No problem at all. Never hesitate to reach out. Hood luck and let me know what you end up doing ?
Man, I couldn't understand a thing you were saying, but then at 9:54 I figured out that you'd been speaking in Canadian the whole time...
Lol that’s awesome. I should have started it off by apologizing hahaha. Next review I will hold a cup of Tim Hortons and do the review in hockey gloves 👍. Cheers man.
Just rewatched. 👏. Yup, well played. The joys of a one take shoot. 👍
i need to find a good review between rp280f, T2+ and monoprice Encore T6
That would be a great comparison video!
Thanks for the review. Interested in these but let's be honest; Emotiva makes some really ugly speakers. Vinyl black & ugly, the ultimate man-cave speaker but not really anything you want in a nice living room tbh.
I would agree that the look of them is unique. But as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. They are for sure not a classic looking speaker.
Sound demo? Please
A sound demo was something I battled with for a while. My concern with a sound demo was that there are always so many variables. From the room acoustics to the mic interpretation. I will run a couple of tests and if I come up with something I will reply in this thread. Cheers and I hope you enjoyed the video.
@@GedSmyth Just looking to hear the basic sound signature that’s all.
Ok. I like this idea. Been putting some thought in to how I would set it up. Leave it with me for a couple of days.
Going to shoot one next week. Going through the logistics now.
Denon needs the sticker torn off
Noted. For a couple of years it was in a stand so I never saw it. Actually forgot it was on. Lol. Consider it removed! Hope you enjoyed the video.
The tweeters are not ribbons. They are ugly and certainly look better with all the lights off. 😆
Well let’s be frank.....We all look better with the lights off. 😉. Hope you enjoyed the review.
So you had 2 of the most popular speaker brands, considered the other most popular brand.... running off Emotiva amps? ..OK.
Too much off topic , cackling and hard to listen to
Oh? I will have a listen again for any audio feedback. This is the first I’m hearing of any audio issues. I appreciate you letting me know.
This guy keeps touching his nose. He's a liar
Lol. Very funny. I hope you enjoyed my review. I still have them running in my basement and love them.
