Actually, no. This was the time when Joe Weider started changing the emphasis from "greek god" or "olympians" (the real ones from the beginning of the Olympics). What is the first thing you see wrong with the picture at 0:13? The PECS! They started focusing on CHEST instead of SHOULDERS. It was mostly to go along with Joe Weider's taste. He liked the big chest on men. I personally think it's useless and stupid. Leave big chests for the women. Work on your shoulders and upper back. It was only after this that the "mass monsters" showed up.
You know, it's worth mentioning that fitness gurus like Joe Weider and Jack Lalanne who kept themselves fit and healthy throughout their lives, didn't quite make it to 100. Whereas, celebrities like Bob Hope and George Burns (who never had any interest in weightlifting and/or staying in shape in general) managed to live a century, and all they did during their advanced years were playing golf, chomping on cigars, and chasing women. Very interesting.
He was a visionary. He and his brother, Ben, took bodybuilding from the darkness into the light. He was the one that allowed Arnold and Franco to make a living from bodybuilding. Could have been Draper, too, but he didn't want the spotlight like Arnold.
The single most important man in the history of bodybuilding.Every thing we know about bodybuilding we owe to one man Joe Weider.Have followed all his training principles since 1959 at the age of 15.Thanks for this interview.
Incredible guy, looked around and didn't see what he wanted, had a vision and sculpted the world to it. Everyone who goes for a jog or lifts a weight should give a nod to this legend
Just throwing this out there my great grandfather lifted..i know this because my grandfather told me and showed me pictures of him and just that alone inspired me more and it was instilled in me,at the time as a kid I didn't know why I liked lifting but now I understand why...i was 8 years old when I started

I respect Weider for being a good businessman and finding the right niche at the right time. Nobody was pushing bodybuilding and nutrition when he and his brother had the idea up in Montreal. JOe Weider, however misrepresented himself, the most famous being the bust of his head on Robbie Robinsons (who is African american) body, which became the trademark for Weider products for many years. Everyone knew Weider's photos were airbrushed and doctored and it was all to create an image of a physique which never existed. However, he created a pathway for many bodybuilders to find fortune and fame, consequently, no one said anything about how he misrepresented himself. In particular, Arnold who was rocketed to fame, and fortune and great things due to Weider's efforts and push for appropriate winners in the IFBB contests. I might ask however, why is Robbie Robinson, in great shape still at age 74, living meagerly when he was the inspiration for the logo on all Weider products...?
I thought Eugen Sandow was the father of bodybuilding. The Mr. Olympia trophy IS named and modelled after him. He is created his own weight training program before Weider was even born.
I’ll never forget when I was a kid 9 yrs old. My old man was a fitness junkie and I always asked him for a sip of his “Joe Weider Vanilla protein shake” :) can’t find it anymore but I loved the taste and miss it greatly.
I always avoided hearing about this guy because I thought he was just a photo bombing jerk business guy. But totally wrong. He is smart and interesting and has great arguments why bodybuilding is important. His skin looks better than so many old bodybuilders.
Am from here 🇩🇿 and because Mr Joe weider i become i bodybuilder, i saw your story i long time ago , you just change my life ! You are a true legend and God bless you because of you the all world right know they competing to be the best , and i will be greatest one day and i will represent again your name to the world ❤ because your name is big as the world you stay number one for me , the father of as the father of the bodybuilding 😍

Enjoyed the video, but believe title should have been the father of, "modern" bodybuilding... Not to take away from the contributions made by the Weiders in any way, but this ignores the contributions of someone like Bob Hoffmann, and in some ways Jack Lalayne... The equipment Joe said he found at a junk yard, if not some kind of scrap, may have been a York or Milo Barbell... Just don't want these guys to be left out of the conversation.
back in the day when there was not flirt apps or chat. women wanted men so much. so many things were great. it was easy to get a job and become famous. people used to get out and now they all sitting at home most of the time and text each other or turn on their webcams and talk many hours and many people watch a woman talk shit or a guy. we are here on youtube and just watch videos and comment all the time and if we go out there are not so many people out when they are out than they just go shopping.

Portubed the pectorals and abs look amazing on men though. Just having huge arms wouldn’t look right imo.

shikat2371 Thats their genetics. And actually statistics show people who stay in shape live to higher ages then those who dont.
Weider was the Don King of bodybuilding Love him or hate him, he is part of bodybuilding history. He put it on the map.
😥He passes away...rest in piece Joe

His legacy will go on... Thanks for sharing.

now I get why the ancients respected their predecessors so much..this guy laid the foundations down to what we have today
Negative...Sandow,George Hackenschmidt Professor Atilla,Doctor Von Krajewski laid the foundation
Yes, the Weider brothers were known for claiming to be the first albeit they did not. They were first to succeed capitalizing with it.

I prefer Sandow as the Father of Bodybuilding..Even Joe's Wieder's Mr Olympia competition make Sandow as the figure on they trophies..
Joe Weider was an inspiration for Arnold Schwarzenegger. He started selling bar bells at Sears Roebuck!
Just recieved from a used book store the 1988 edition of Joe Weiders Bodybuilding System...minus the charts and posters thar came with the course
legend never dies... you name its writing in History... shame to me im not making anythings special in my life.
Nothing beautiful & taxing like bodybuilding
Amazing video! What an inspiration!
I will agreed If ppl said that Joe's is a Greatest Legendary Bodybuilder but he's not the FATHER of BODYBUILDING and never will

Just because you were the first to do something doesn't make you the father of it. You have to make popular by promoting it.
