Actually, no. This was the time when Joe Weider started changing the emphasis from "greek god" or "olympians" (the real ones from the beginning of the Olympics). What is the first thing you see wrong with the picture at 0:13? The PECS! They started focusing on CHEST instead of SHOULDERS. It was mostly to go along with Joe Weider's taste. He liked the big chest on men. I personally think it's useless and stupid. Leave big chests for the women. Work on your shoulders and upper back. It was only after this that the "mass monsters" showed up.

You know, it's worth mentioning that fitness gurus like Joe Weider and Jack Lalanne who kept themselves fit and healthy throughout their lives, didn't quite make it to 100. Whereas, celebrities like Bob Hope and George Burns (who never had any interest in weightlifting and/or staying in shape in general) managed to live a century, and all they did during their advanced years were playing golf, chomping on cigars, and chasing women.
      Very interesting.

shikat2371 Thats their genetics. And actually statistics show people who stay in shape live to higher ages then those who dont.

He was a visionary. He and his brother, Ben, took bodybuilding from the darkness into the light. He was the one that allowed Arnold and Franco to make a living from bodybuilding. Could have been Draper, too, but he didn't want the spotlight like Arnold.

Im 44 and I've been into fitness being active lifting weights since I've been fourteen and an athlete all the way up until I was a freshman in high school ...
No matter what kind of exercises I do no matter what kind of routine I'm on it doesn't matter I always end up going back to this basic foundation old school program this is something you can always rely on if you get tired of all this new stuff out here and want to build muscle and have it built in the Right-Way with the right exercises this program is to go to every time
I've blown up so much during this program I always go back to it I get tired of all this new stuff and I always get back to what works the FASTEST
I SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE YEARS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

I respect Weider for being a good businessman and finding the right niche at the right time. Nobody was pushing bodybuilding and nutrition when he and his brother had the idea up in Montreal. JOe Weider, however misrepresented himself, the most famous being the bust of his head on Robbie Robinsons (who is African american) body, which became the trademark for Weider products for many years. Everyone knew Weider's photos were airbrushed and doctored and it was all to create an image of a physique which never existed. However, he created a pathway for many bodybuilders to find fortune and fame, consequently, no one said anything about how he misrepresented himself. In particular, Arnold who was rocketed to fame, and fortune and great things due to Weider's efforts and push for appropriate winners in the IFBB contests. I might ask however, why is Robbie Robinson, in great shape still at age 74, living meagerly when he was the inspiration for the logo on all Weider products...?

Enjoyed the video, but believe title should have been the father of, "modern" bodybuilding... Not to take away from the contributions made by the Weiders in any way, but this ignores the contributions of someone like Bob Hoffmann, and in some ways Jack Lalayne... The equipment Joe said he found at a junk yard, if not some kind of scrap, may have been a York or Milo Barbell... Just don't want these guys to be left out of the conversation.
