The Friedman is definitely tighter, but the tube screamer really makes the orange competitive. Overall I prefer the Orange tone more. Great video!

I prefer the Orange by a long shot for my needs. The cleans are also surprisingly good on the Micro Dark, and with that effects loop, the possibilities are limitless. Great comparison as always!

I have the Terror Stamp and a Friedman BE-OD Deluxe. It's a winning combination of delicious dirt tones, and when stacking an EHX Soul Food - the cascading levels of gain are absolutely amazing!! This combination of pedals, with an EHX Tone Tattoo in the effects loop and pushing a Fender Bassbreaker 2x12 cabinet is Sonic Bliss. It's absolutely perfect for recording multiple tracks simultaneously. Track 1) from the speaker emulated line out, 2) an sm-57 slightly offset on the cone of one speaker, 3) another sm-57 on center cone of other speaker, 4) a condenser room mic about 4' away from the cabinet. Mixing the tracks with various panning produces such a full stereo sound! I hope this gives someone some inspiration to experiment and find the tones that fit your needs and budget! Ive got an orange micro dark and its a beast.... Also super versatile. I love it . The cab sim output to record is also of high quality.
The Orange just has a "fattnes" to it that really fills the space to my ears.

Really considering buying a Micro Dark as a decent backup rig, I have a big custom rack that I currently use but if I'm playing a smaller show or my rack has problems this would come in handy for sure.
I’m an orange guy so I can’t be taken too seriously. Present head is a orange TH30 with orange 2x12 cab. That said, the initial start of the video had me going Friedman. Then you added the tube screamer and it was all orange for me. Great video though. I find it tough to make decisions listening thru a cell phone. Add my 55 year old ears and all the hearing damage over the years and my opinion is useless. Sorry to waste your time LOL

Best demo I've watched and heard and recently i've watched alot on both these very two Amps, either would be great to own with parts where they sound almost identical but veering towards Orange

A growling orange! We jammed at a studio with 2 orange amps which i did not pay attention to. That type of punchy notes( from recording on our phones) delivered from digging on the EAD strings are wow!
Friedman sounds pretty disappointing, Orange better by far
The Orange for sure, Mine has seen many gigs going into a 4x12 V30 with a Zakk OD in the front. IT RIPS live.
Thanks for the video and love your comparisons. I just got the Micro Dark and was thinking of getting the BE Mini to compare but this video will do. I like the Mirco Dark with the stock tube, slight breakup and a Wampler Tumnus Deluxe for my Punk Rock/Pop Punk tones. I also just ordered a 5751 Gold Pin tube and a 12AU7 Gold Pin tube to check out b/c I heard those tubes will output less gain and possibly be a better platform for pedals.

So surprise on how good Orange is clean the metal stuff high gain on Orange was a given. Shame Friedman clean sounds bad, Marshal sound is amazing

Friedman sounds better to me in clip 1 and 4. Preferred the Orange on clips 2, 3 and 5. Considering size and cost, you can’t beat the Orange. Especially in the used market.
Imo the Friedman is better with high gain but Orange has far better cleans.

Friedman sounds incredible BUT given how the Orange doesn't sound too far and it's much cheaper, that's a solid deal right there.
I've always said that orange has missed out on the market by taking that dark & putting a 3 eq section in it !! I had one & it was very versatile.

@@TinkerToneworks yeah but it was a much larger head and had 2 channels, one of which still had the same "shape" control instead of the full 3 band eq.
I think that's the appeal, simple 1 channel high gain lunch box head....
@@jarrusjenkins it's literally the exact same gain structure as the rockerverb so just get a rockerverb or the OR15/Jim Root Terror. only difference is the EQ.

The Orange is a lot more versatile if you want to dial in anything other than high gain.
How would you compare these to those 3 Joyo Bantamp Xl (meteor/jackman/zombie II) that you have?
Sorry for late reply I've been away. I think the Joyos are similar to the Micro Dark in terms of how much I like them (a lot). Friedman is literally just one sound but if you like it it's great. I think I prefer the Joyos + Micro Darks over the Friedman. I may do i giant micro head shootout in the future If I can get hold of Hotones etc. 👍

Both a definitely one trick pony amps, especially the Friedman. I used to have the micro dark and still think its the better choice between the two, as its gain sounds very good and it can get great cleans but the clean headroom is very limited hence one trick pony status. Also I personally get annoyed over time with the one tone knob, which is also why I ended up selling my TH30.
What is the price difference?There ya go.
I prefer the openness of the Orange.
BTW, what FX were you using for the cleans?

the orange kicks ass but the mini rectifier is not beatable in this regard
Also, no price difference at all, right? I owned a mini rectifier and it is an awesome amplifier, but not relevant in this case.

FRIEDMAN does not have the same level of growl and bite as the ORANGE amp and just plain can't handle cleans.
The Orange sounds like a record and the BE sounds pretty terrible by comparison.

Not as impressed by the Friedman as I thought I'd be, micro dark all day for me.
The Friedman sounds like crap. No comparison here, the Orange has depth in it's tone. The Friedman sounds one dimensional and boxy! I'm not a fan of the Friedman tube amps either as I owned a Runt for about a week before returning it.
