      Happy birthday! And hmmm, I really don't know the answer to that question but I think I'd do the larger enclosure but try to keep it rather close to the enclosure it had and slowly change and add new things.

    I think larger is always better what ever the reptile is , I like it when they have real plants tons of places to hide as near to nature as possible, I’m ok not handling things much I prefer to just to watch the reptile do it’s thing and be happy even if it’s hiding most of the time lol

    I tend to go toward larger enclosures. My needs to interact with the animal are not as important as the animals’ space requirements. All my gargs, chewies, and even leachie are in 18x18x24s (as adults) because I would rather give them more space to get their exercise. I have not yet seen a gecko get a space upgrade and then refuse to eat.

    Great video as always Dayyan! I hope you had a great Birthday and that’s a couple wonderful Birthday gifts right there!! :)
    Also, I certainly feel as though a spacious enclosure is far better for the animals than a smaller one, the benefits for the animals seem to be in favour of a large enclosure, however I do believe that ensuring the enclosure is set up suitably is very important. A bare, large enclosure will be less beneficial than a fully enriched, planted enclosure small enclosure in my opinion. So long as the enclosure is full of opportunities for the animal from climbing opportunities, to hiding areas I do think that bigger will always be better! Perhaps not from a socialisation and interaction standpoint, but certainly from a welfare point of view.

  • @brittneymcglynn5474
    @brittneymcglynn5474 3 роки тому +2

    I’ve noticed it’s more about how many hides and how lush the greenery is in a terrarium that dictates behavior. Oddly, my larger geckos (rhacs and gargoyles) they get wilder with more area but lushly planted/more hides. Meanwhile my day geckos get less crazy when they have more space with lush plants and more areas to hide.
    PSS your friends gave amazing gifts ! Happy bday 😚😚😚

    It can depend. If it's a smaller enclosure, if it has time to roam outside of the enclosure sometime then it can work. Usually though, bigger is better with just more hiding opportunities available to them. Especially if you don't plan on handling the animal much so that is its entire world.

    To me giving the animal more space is more important.reptiles do not need socail interaction with us to be healthy so if they tolerate handling it's just a bonus for us. My crested gecko does not tolerate handling at all, and the only thing that bothers me with that is it makes cage cleaning time very difficult, I've had to chase him around the living room more times than I care to admit because getting him out so i can clean his tank is not easy lol

    QOTD: You know this is something that worries me to the point of not owning an animal other than my Oliver the cat. Your outcome (with Tiki) is somewhat surprising. But not @ the same time. Less space = more confidence maybe? While you would think more space would = more roaming availability. Very thought provoking, this one.

    I personally feel that the size of the enclosure should be whatever the animal thrives the most in. I played around with a few enclosures for my python and found a larger size with several hides, logs, and vines to climb up made him enjoy his home the most. I love to take time out occasionally but his comfort is my top priority. Also, it's pronounced care-ah 😉 the same way you would say Sara or Tara just with a K!

I got fish for my new aquarium 3 weeks ago and over the past week 2 of my females of 2 different species have given birth to 13 live babies, I just have 1 female guppie who we think is pregnant. We got a lot more than we paid for and was expecting. My thoughts on the question of the day is, a bigger space is better not just to give the animal space but also to enrich their lives.

    Just to tell you I think tokays have some parental care, Back in the 1980's when I lived in Homestead I released some Tokays for roach control. I ended up up with an upstairs male tokay and the dominate male had a harem of three females in the kitchen. They lived behind some cabinets and the females laid eggs in the same spot. There were like 8 eggs in a group when they hatched I assume the females would eat the egg shells. It was a PITA when the house got tented for termites catching every one and some how managing to remove some paneling that had the eggs on it. When those eggs hatched the babies didn't;t touch the shells.One thing I found is never offer live mice to tokays if they are living free roaming in a kitchen. Let's just say monitors are far less messy!

I loved watching them do what reptiles do in their natural habitat, I wasn’t interested in seeing them afraid because I was trying to hold them. Nothing against anyone who does like to interact with their reptiles, that’s just me.

    Hey hon, I'm right there with you on the compliment thing. Here is something my choir teacher taught me. Maybe being mindful of the following will help you accept compliments. If you respond to a compliment by saying that you don't deserve it, essentially you are disagreeing with that person's opinion of you. Accept the compliment with humility and grace. Maybe even practice accepting compliments. Also holds true for even politely trying to refuse a gift. If you don't accept the compliment or gift or nice gesture, you are rejecting that person. Hope that helps! And I hope you accept the fact that I think you are awesome. And I'm kinda jealous about that amazing sweater...

    As also a May birthday, I say it's a good time to be alive! Also, you totally already named her, you just forgot her name. It's Miki. You liked Tiki and Miki. Being honest because that's not the name I came up with and I gave up after you said you named her. I said it should be Moana. Wait... Did I just heard you say that name? Alright, I didn't think you'd already had that name so nevermind. Lol. Also, the size of the enclosure really is determined by how clean I can keep it/work involved in keeping it going. Sometimes you really cut off a slice of too much work for just one animal who might be just as happy with a cozier little enclosure. I need to get a handle on this sometimes because I'll end up with a jumping spider in a 20 gallon enclosure again. That was a little much.
