    I think we can have his image in our countenance and see him as he is BEFORE the second coming, "in the flesh" (Moses 5:10-11 - as taught in the temple); and that is Alma's point. As baptized members of the church, when we have the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost, we take his name fully upon us (Mosiah 5:8), we become his children (Mosiah 5:7), we are his seed (Mosiah 15:10-12), we become his sheep, called by his name (Alma 5:37-39) and THEN we are on that straight and narrow path (2 Nephi 31:17-18) that leads to other experiences that allow us to know God, become sealed, partake of his divine nature (2 Peter 1:4) and be truly converted. This is what all members of the church need to seek - that is what Alma is teaching these members. This doctrine of the baptism of fire and the Holy ghost is taught plainly in the Book of Mormon, yet it is often not taught in the church...are we saying, "all is well in Zion..."? (2 Nephi 28:19-27). I am interested in your take on this.

    • @Unshaken
      @Unshaken  4 роки тому +2

      My favorite verse on the subject is D&C 88:68. But because such personal occurrences are "in [God's] time, and in his own way, and according to his own will," I think the Church is wise to separate the individual from the institutional in that area, and leave that to God Himself. The further I got in grad school the less I was being guided by "my program" and the more I was on my own. Less institutional and more individual. Less "general" and more "specific." And since "General Authorities" are there to teach "general principles," I'm not surprised that more "specific principles" are left to the "Specific Authority," which is the Holy Ghost.

    • @jimmckin333
      @jimmckin333 4 роки тому

      @@Unshaken But, there are many scriptures that tell us to seek for these things (D&C 42:61, for example). If it is never taught, who will seek for it? Furthermore, if we are taught that we cannot achieve anything like this in our life NO ONE will seek for it. I think it is sad, really.

    • @Unshaken
      @Unshaken  4 роки тому +1

      @@jimmckin333 I can definitely see your point. I imagine it's a matter of balancing temperance and zeal, milk and meat, etc., in hopes of avoiding both apathy and overzealousness, since dangers exist at both extremes. It's certainly a difficult balance to strike!

    • @Unshaken
      @Unshaken  4 роки тому +3

      I know what you mean about feeling powerless to change things. But we can work toward changing ourselves--accepting the Lord's grace to turn us into a new creature. Then, the more we interact with other people, that Light begins to spread. Like President Benson taught, the world works from the outside in, but the Lord works from the inside out. We can find Him even in turbulent times!

    Please just please stop disguising your religion as Christian. You are not. As long as you believe Joseph Smith was a prophet, read those other damnable books as “scriptures” you are NOT a Christ follower! You’re a Joseph Smith follower. Renounce, repent, choose Jesus ALONE, read the New Testament ALONE then welcome to His kingdom

    • @brucelloyd7496
      @brucelloyd7496 4 роки тому +2

      Colleen, you are a child of God and He loves you! I love the New Testament! The very last verse (John 21:25) in the Gospel of John states,
      "And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen."
      Why put limits on God? God loves ALL his children throughout the world, not just a small segment that lived in a 70-mile strip east of the Mediterranean Sea. We should be very grateful for every word God has spoken to his children through His prophets since the days of Adam.
      The Book of Mormon is scripture just like the Bible. God always works through prophets (Amos 3:7)! Like the Bible, the Book of Mormon was written by Israelite prophets. The book is named after an Israelite prophet named Mormon who abridged many written records describing people who lived in America from about 2200 BC to 400AD. These records were translated by Joseph Smith into English and published to the World in 1830.
      Have you honestly read and pondered ever page of the Book of Mormon? You can't trust what the naysayers say. They haven't sincerely read it either. You have to find out for yourself. I challenge you to read the first verse and the first chapter. You won't find anything out of harmony with the Bible and it will change and improve your life forever!
      There is a big difference between knowing about Christ (secular knowledge) and knowing Christ personally (becoming like him by developing the attributes of godliness). As you read all of the scriptures, you will learn the true nature of God and His Son, Jesus Christ and learn about the Great Plan of Happiness!
      Matthew 7:17-20 is very clear.
      "17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth devil fruit.
      18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
      19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
      20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."
      Until you humble yourself and read and ponder it for yourself, you can't cast judgement on the beautiful and heavenly teachings of the Book of Mormon. Give it a try.

      @@colleenjohnstoncomedy3036 There is no ruse (meaning deception or trick) involved here. If you didn't read the entire book, how do you know what it says? If you don't know what is in the book, you're judging the book by it's cover or listening to the opinion of someone who has not read it completely. I've never read a "Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens. However, like me, many people are familiar with the opening sentence even if they don't know where it came from. "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..." I know the book is about the French Revolution. What do you know about the Book of Mormon?
      Yes, you absolutely can comment on the Book of Mormon without reading it completely. Did you read the entire book or not? If not, about how many pages did you read?
