Stanton has had a huge downfall and thats just a fact. I still love how hard he used to hit the ball and how he doesn’t have a leg kick and yet still demolished the ball.

As a Yankee fan, I actually appreciate FINALLY a transparent comment from someone in charge.
All of last year and frankly most of Stanton's tenure in NY, people have always called to get rid of him. Now management speaks up and says what the fans say and he gets chastised. Cash hasn't said anything not true. Stanton needs to man up and accept facts. He needs to get better at playing through pain and maybe alter his approach at fitness. If someone is that easily going to be hurt all the time, maybe playing the game isn't the best option anymore and instead should retire and save his body the stress.
Even as a Red Sox fan, I feel bad for the guy. He's an amazing hitter if healthy. But he just can't stay on the field. Had a bad year this year as well. I bet the Yankees wish he'd held up more like David Ortiz or Jim Thome and hit tons of HR on his way to the HOF.
Stanton is overpaid right now and isn't producing like he should but no player should ever get insulted by there own team or owner no matter how they feel i don't blame him if he wants to leave
As a Yankee fan, I appreciate what he has done for us despite the injuries, but he has to go unless something drastically changes for him.

As a Yankee fan, I'll happily admit Stanton has issues. But what Cashman did was bone headed at best. At best he pissed off one of the highest paid players on the team, at worst he has now damaged the relationship with Stanton and done nothing to promote his trade value. Just further proof Cashman should be out on his ass looking for another job
Look back at Cashman's scouting and draft picks.. Aaron Judge. That's it. That's the only HOF quality player that Cashman has drafted/scouted. 20+ years, one guy. The most overrated GM (YES-man) that is still employed in baseball. Been calling for his firing since 2014. If Yankees fans dont see Cashman as the problem, then good luck to mediocrity for another few years as long as he's there.

Yankee fan here. Yes Stanton's injuries are annoying and never been a big fan of him, but for Cash to say that he purposely injures himself as part of his game is complete disrespect. No player player across any sport chooses to injure themself. Also, Cash picked him up from Miami too. Cash is the epitome of vain.

I’m only 3 minutes in but there’s something up with the Yankees rehab team because you have players like Rizzo’s concussion go unchecked for 3 months and Stanton injuries that are common in sports but could also preventable to some degree (ie: change up stretches, yoga, before/after sports therapy… my mind is going black at the moment on specific name 🤦♀️) But I say this as a former gymnast and personal trainer. Im far from an expert on this but the Yankees have been called out for being cheap - remember when players had to pay for wi-fi on the team plane & we’re only called out when a reporter when that randomly came out from a player? Bad news is, tears can be reoccurring and can sideline you.
I feel really bad for Stanton because it’s not like he is some lazy guy & you know he hears all the talk from fans & reporters (I highly doubt he listens to sports radio!)

I remember Stanton being soooo streaky. There were times that any partial mistake he would hit out or he’d even homer on great pitches out of the zone.
I like Stanton but when we signed him, I knew he was going to breakdown. I feel sorry for the guy I know he wanted to be out there but we didn’t need him in the first place.
Anything longer than a 4-5 year contract is completely nuts
And I can't forget his (lack of) defensive skills hurt too. In Game 3 of the 2022 ALCS, the Astros had the bases loaded with no one out, Mancini hit a fly ball to left, and after Stanton, playing LF for that game, made the catch, all runners on base advanced because he backtracked and didn't have much on the throw.

I wonder if stantons batting stance changing over the years was forced by the injuries. His front foot is much further foward and ahead of his rear foot by a good bit in the batters box, where it used to be much further back. Or maybe it was just in an effort to try and pull the ball a tad less.
I think his stance is psychological. He got drilled in the face while still with Miami and he probably thinks, in his head, he is more protected.
I saw him discussing it somewhere in a video years ago, his swing path works better with a closed stance (he changed his stance in July 2017 I think, and then hit like 15 homers in August and won MVP)
That Mike Fiers fastball to his face affected him forever because he’s afraid to stand closer to the plate.
I've said it before, if you're on a max contract in New York, the tail end of those years are not going to be pretty. You know what you're signing up for and the same will happen with Judge.

I love Giancarlo but he's been healthy for one season in NY.
Last season and a half he can't hit the fastball which was his go 2.
and this guy related the Marlins tenure in a jaded way. He only played over 125 games in 3 of the 8 seasons there. The injury thing started early and often.
Stanton is absolutely injury prone as an individual, but the fact that there's no mention of how the medical and training staff can't keep their $30mil/ year asset on the field is wild. Muscle strains and tendon inflammation issues are not freak accidents like a fastball to the face or broken bones - those are things the strength and conditioning trainers should be working on daily.
I think the medical staff is hamstrung though, no pun intended. If Stanton gets appropriate time off, he's missing too much time; if he's put out there too early, his injuries are likely to return. Not a great situation to be in for anyone.
I think one issue with Stanton is his size and that could possibly be a reason for his injuries

The Stanton deal was disaster and I never wanted him, but I like him personally. He is certainly trying. And let's face it, the Yankees keep telling him how great his exit velocities are, so he's going to keep overexerting himself and getting hurt. They're not really steering him in the right direction. Cashman seems to be exploiting the fact that he's clearly un-fireable.
His reputation is just so tarnished now which is sad because i genuinely want stanton to succeed. He doesnt have the accolades like trout or the long careers like nelson cruz but when he has a full healthy season hes genuinely on a path to become a hof

Hal is probably putting the pressure on Cashman. The Yankees business model is to always make the playoffs, especially with what they charge fans.
This is probably the first time after George passed where he has real pressure along with trying to appease the fans. Maybe saying how unwanted Stanton is by the organization will lead to a buyout.

I’m curious since I’ve read rumors the NYY are open to trading him (and his contract) so maybe the “insult” was a tactical move to intentional anger Stanton thus making more amenable to waiving his no-trade clause (if one even exists)?

What I hate about modern MLB is that people obsess about how far a ball is hit or its exit velo.. But at the end of the day all home runs are equal.. You dont get extra runs for a 500 footer ...
Call me old school but I respect the guys that consistently bat above .260 with a good mix of power and average and some speed always helps.. I still value Rbis and big hits over War and think alot of analytics are detached from the flow of the game..

I was never a fan of the trade. But it was honestly a prelude to how bad Cashman would handle the “baby bomber” era.
It sucks because when Derek Jeter traded him to the Yankees, we were supposed to have a player that helped bring championships to the Bronx. A player that eventually hits 500 home runs and celebrate that milestone. A player that broke records in post season. A freak player that hit different type of home runs thst you don’t ever see in baseball behind another freak that hit the longest home runs in Aaron Judge. We only got that in spurts. This was supposed to be mantle / maris. They were never on the field at the same time to have that chemistry as 2-3 hitters. I love Stanton, but, instead of being part of Yankees history as one of the most feared 2-3 hitters ever, we’re gonna look back and say what could’ve been. It was something that just never happened. And that really sucks. Stanton is one of the best homerun hitters I’ve ever seen. He just couldn’t stay on the field here.

I don't understand how you equate stating that an injury prone player is injury prone is "talking him down" or "having no faith." I think he is talking of him at exactly the right level ahd having faith that Stanton will continue to deliver what he has delivered.

Does it occur to you that there is a difference between repetitive motion injury - guys just inuring themselves by running, throwing or swinging - verses collision injuries. Station would be better served accepting a trade to a west coast team, where the weather is better and he doesn't have to sit in cold environments between innings, allowing muscles to tightened,, nerve conduction velocities to diminish. Once an athlete sustains a grade II Hamstring strain, the probability that that muscle will sustain a re-injury under stress is probably 100%, because muscle and tendon strains heal via scar tissue filling in the partial tear defect. Scar tissue is weaker to torsional and shear stresses than the original muscle fibers and therefore more apt to rupture during the eccentric phase of muscle contraction during the swing phase of running gait, when the Hamstrings are activated to effectively decelerate the rapidly extending knee flexing hip. During this phase of gait, the Hamstrings are contracting, but lengthening (being stretched, analogous to an athlete performing forced negative arm curls, extending the elbows from a flexed position, carrying a heavy load while contracting the Biceps muscle group). Greater forces are applied to muscles during eccentric (muscle is contracting , but lengthening) then during concentric (muscle is contracting and shortening) muscle contractions, placing the muscle at greater risk of injury. As a Sports Scientist/Exercise Physiologist, Biomechanist, and Human Performance Specialist, having worked with many professional and olympic athletes, invented or exercise and military equipment, an performed research on Hamstring injuries, I can without hesitation state that 99.999% of physicians and physical therapists do not know how to properly rehabilitate Hamstring Injuries, because they have failed to read the scientific literature on the subject, period. Grade II Hamstring injuries require in excess of one year to heal, and the healed by-product of the injury will always represent a weakened functional entity compared to the original un-injured muscle, prone to re-injury and progression of the grade II to a complete rupture, Grade III, requiring surgery. I posted this at the time of Staton's injury, and was very concerned for his welfare, when the Yankees had him return to play after just 2 months, a period grossly insufficient to permit healing of a grade II Hamstring strain. This was in effect medical malpractice, if the treating physician signed off on his return to play.
For some reason or another, baseball players over 6'3" (6' 4" and up) tend to be more injury prom and not long lasting. I think that the strikes zone and the way pitchers pitch taller players puts them at a disadvantage because of the strike zone and how they have to stand at the plate and swinging somewhat uncomfortable that over the long run it catches up to them. Most great hitters of all time have been between 5'10" and 6'1" (without lying about their which they often do, adding at least 1 inch, like Vladimir Jr who is about 5'11" and lists himself as 6'2").

I believe it comes down to how much force that a larger player can generate; you can generate force by being explosive ( heavy on quick-twitch muscles, leading to quicker movements; and speed=power, ask any football player), but you can also generate force through generating more leverage (having longer limbs; the reason tall, lanky players are sometimes described as having "wiry strength")
Most of the elite power hitters are some combination of long-limbed (or large in general) and explosive; smaller power hitters have a tendency to generate power through explosiveness and barrel accuracy (like a Mookie Betts or Jose Altuve; hopefully Corbin Carroll can join that group)
Now, the more force a player generates the harder it is to direct that force (that's why hitters with elite bat speed have a tendency to swing-and-miss), and if it isn't directed effectively it can lead to joint wear (because it's difficult, if not impossible, to train tendon/ligament strength) and injury.
Big, muscle-bound guys have a tendency to be lacking in the flexibility department, and a lack of flexibility is almost by definition a lack in range of motion. Abruptly going beyond normal range of motion is one of the quickest ways to cause injury.
And that's not even considering efficiency (or inefficiency) of mechanics. Hopefully that helps!
@@ShiroiKiba Veryey true....But I have seen great hitters like Pete Rose, Rod Carew, Ken Griffey Sr and Jr, Paul Molitor, Manny Ramirez, Adrian Beltre, and many others. They have several things in common. They were not very tall, eye-level closer to the strike zone and not having to make a significant physical adjustment as they swam, and did not have significantly long extremities (arms).

When he came to the Yankees I said wow 2 huge monster power players this is going to be very sick & intoxicating having two updated home run hitting monsters on the Yankees but as the years have gone by I've heard more about judge then about Stanton then his injuries it made me think about the Carl pavano situation yeah the 40 million dollar pitching bust the Yankees signed he hardly pitched was on the injury list often he was just sitting back and getting paid his millions till the Yankees finally got rid of him look like they're going to have to do the same with Stanton sadly what a waste of millions of dollars so many Yankee fans wanted him and judge to destroy the other teams bashing them to death with monster home runs shots like mantle & maris did in the 60s it didn't workout well at all the last 4in a half years with Stanton at least too much money too many injuries the marlins were smart in getting rid of him they saw what the Yankees didn't see he only looked good visually but productively he was a waste of time and money and a major disappointment to all Yankee fans who hoped for his very best which lasted for only 1 season and he's been a bomb ever since that's very sad to Yankee fans 😢 we just need to find another to take his place that all

As a Yankees fan I think it’s terrible what Cashman said about Stanton. He’s the general manager he put a team together and now it’s not making the playoffs he’s trying to wiggle his way out of the mess that he made of the team. Maybe it’s Cashman who isn’t as good as he used to be.
there are generally two types of injury in sport. Trauma and acute. Trauma can be attributed to luck, ie getting hit in the face with a ball. Could have happened to anyone, sadly, it happened to Giancarlo. Then there is acute, strained hamstring, strained bicep etc. those injuries are mostly the result of repetitive movements of muscles that are not in peak physical condition or are biomechanically misfiring. I would never accuse a pro athlete of not being in peak physical condition but something is definitely off here. This falls on the Yankees training staff, too, for not recognizing and dealing with this adequately. There is also a host of other issues like diet, offseason routine, maybe he has a personal trainer who is leading him in another direction. Either way its sad to see, and its sad to see preventable injuries hold him back.
My god, my managers and directors are always critiquing my performance. If I whined about their criticisms when it’s valid, I’d be laughed out if the building.

It’s very VERY sad that as a society we have reached this point: A grown man playing a sport for HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of dollars per year could possibly be insulted by his GM telling the truth. I’m a Stanton fan and would love to see him MASH like he is capable of doing in a lineup consisting of Volpe, Dominguez, Judge, Soto, Stanton, Wells, Torres. But I don’t think Stanton can stay in the lineup. And he shouldn’t be upset when confronted with the truth. IF he was providing the value that they were expecting when they traded for him, there wouldn’t have been the nearly fruitless LF search from last season. There might not even be the same impetus to HAVE TO get Soto. Stanton has underproduced and should be upset at being called on it by anyone.
This wouldn't have happened if he went to the Giants. He would have been THE household name, and fans would have loved him.
Yeah but I’m glad he didn’t come to SF. I like Stanton a lot, but especially now with Ohtani as a FA, we have a chance at getting him much more than if Stanton and Judge were here

Perhaps Brian is trying to light up a fire in Giancarlo (sort of the way he did with Judge in 2022) or maybe wants him to request a trade. As a Yankee fan, I’m frustrated with Giancarlo & I imagine Brian is also. But don’t think the timing was smart, since Giancarlo has the same agent as Yamamoto, who the Yankees want.
