Thanks, as always for watching. Also, wanted to let you know that we hired AP Canavan to edit our fantasy novel, so you may want to hold off on beta reading it for now, given the fact that we're likely to change a lot based on his feedback. Thanks so much for the offer. Maybe we'll send it to you after it's done.
I love how you both bounced off each other & this conversation opened so much up to look into & go deep into what I'm already exploring. ❤❤❤ I watched this over a day as I had notes & thoughts coming up *sparks* OMG Parker, can't wait to read your dads substack.
This video comes into my life at a perfect time. It’s like opening my mind and finally starting to make sense with my life’s questions. Thank you both.
An impressive stashe there Parker, I think Nietzsche would approve. I know what you mean about Christianity, Jordan. I was raised Christian, but fell away from it after a close friend of mine died. Now I've started flirting with it again. But I'm like you where I feel like I need to be all in before I can say if I believe it or not. I'm also not fond of organized religion in general, it seems to hold people back and get people to conform, which is particularly ironic with Christianity. A lot of people seem to view it as a religion that inspires conformity and obedience, when Christ's actual message wanted to inspire the exact opposite. Christianity as a philosophy is meant to get people out of their rut and to challenge their complacency, not enforce it. I digress though. I don't want to debate theology today lol. This was a stimulating discussion, Parker seems like a really cool guy. He likes Philip K. Dick and Batman: The Animated Series too?! I gotta talk to this guy at some point! This was great Jordan, keep them coming.
Thanks for watching, Britton! I appreciate you sharing your story. Yes, on final analysis I'm not sure that I'll ever be able to abandon Judaism and fully convert. All I really know is I believe in Western, Judeo-Christian values. I actually don't mind the conformity aspect of organized religion-as long as the religion is one that sees the individual as a sovereign entity made in the image of God. People tend to forget that the opposite of extreme conformity is a kind of bland atomized, hyper-individualistic liberal formlessness. I agree with Aristotle that any virtue carried to its extreme becomes a vice, so I tend to fall somewhere in the middle. Some conformity is good and necessary-we need limits, boundaries, and shared frameworks of meaning-but too much conformity is stultifying and anti-human. Yes, Parker is definitely the man. A good guest to have on! Talk soon!
I go as far, if I'm on a roll to make a syllubus & materials if I'm reading deep into a subject 😅😂 but I also love creating, generating & have been doing similar since I was a teenager. I was that kid sh@t at maths, but always creating extra homework for myself with all the humanities, psych and english classes. Then getting frustrated that we weren't pushing the needle further. I've finally satiated that as an adult though as an auts/adhd folk. Love hearing this perspective.
Btw, my wife was watching the video and she says that I've taken the same test you did---apparently, my score was: "1. Intellection, 2. Learner, 3. Maximizer, 4. Input, 5. Activator." I don't even remember taking this test. :)
Jordan, I do the same 😊😂 especially with Non-Fiction or Fiction analysis, I keep notes & learn as if I'm going to be teaching a course or class on it & organize it that way to in my brain & in notion. It's something I started doing intuitively, but also learned is a practice in nursing & medicine with students. I imagine that I've got a cohort & peers in my mind & then seperate my notes into posts, essays, teachable content or discussion as if I was going to also need to present & share it & it's really helped with connecting to material. It's also helped with my indie author discussions & coaching too cause I am usually reading something, taking notes on index or margains, asking questions ( discussion) then creating a resource for myself like a pdf or a worksheet.
Yes, it holds me accountable and helps me to read with a purpose. It sounds like that works for you as well. I like your idea of creating a resource for yourself, like a pdf or worksheet.
Parker I just got to your bible is a meta narrative point and you need to get to Disquiet Gods by Ruocchio…Chapter 40 in particular is going to blow your mind!
What a great conversation! Did a spit-take snort laugh when you mentioned my sperm doner 😂 you said that shit outloud 😂 And if you're going to convert to Christianity, please consider this; you can philosophize about it endlessly and discuss religious dogma without having to be baptized or pretend to eat the blood and flesh of a being as if doing so will imbue you with their nature. If you adopt the religion, be sure you passionately love Jesus Christ & accept him as your saviour in your deepest heart. And even then, you don't need to take on a religion/ controlnstructure. Follow your heart ❤
Your sperm donor, lol. I love all of this advice. In the end, I may be too much of a heathen and a tortured, conflicted soul to convert. I can be quite rebellious and I tend to be a skeptic. It's actually been really hard, throughout my life, to fully give myself over to any kind of rigid dogma or structured belief system. I'm not sure I've ever fully surrendered to anything in my life except Love.
@@iWizard Love is the most worthy thing there is. May it hover over you, always! (And let us know if any sketchy dudes in yamakas show up at your door 🤣)
I have a question for Parker about the time & resource management in running multiple sites, both youtube & substacks. How do you make them work as a cohesive network, while also providing different engagement & entry points & also additionally ( How do you manage it?) I'm currently an Indie author launching two pen names & I have this other academic, philisophical, pop culture, history, interdisciplinary part that wants to spread out & create entry points for those interests too.
Thanks again for watching. I meant to ask Parker about that. It's super impressive how he manages his time. It's cool that you're an indie author. I'm working at that as well. You should start a UA-cam channel for those latter interests you mentioned.
Jordan, I'm sure you're familiar: John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever (that's you) believes in Him will have eternal life. John 14:6 - Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Pray and ask Jesus to forgive your sins and come into your heart and life. Then pray and ask Him to reveal Himself through the Scriptures (old and new testament) as you read and see how He was there from the beginning for just this moment. Then pray for His guidance and actively search for a church where you feel Him present...He will show you. ❤

Such a fascinating convo, man. Having Ruocchio on with Parker next time would be the ultimate crossover for me personally
