The white-throated kingfisher (Halcyon smyrnensis) also known as the white-breasted kingfisher is a tree kingfisher, widely distributed in Asia from the Sinai east through the Indian subcontinent to the Philippines. This kingfisher is a resident over much of its range, although some populations may make short distance movements. It can often be found well away from water where it feeds on a wide range of prey that includes small reptiles, amphibians, crabs, small rodents and even birds. During the breeding season they call loudly in the mornings from prominent perches including the tops of buildings in urban areas or on wires.

Wow! Excellent work. I was desperately waiting for this video. White throated kingfisher is one of my favourite bird. Sounds of Stroke bill kingfisher and white throated kingfisher makes me nostalgic.

Two of these birds often roam across where we live , i love their sounds. I never knew what they were called, but now i do.

A really fascinating species of kingfisher. That white necklace they have is great. And above all, I had never heard them sing, it's incredible. Very good the video friend. I send you a huge greeting.
They make loud calls, sometimes confuses with woodpecker call. But they are not frequent singers, like they call when they take off or land on a place. Glad to share these nice moments with fellow birders 😍 Have a Happy Sunday, Hugs!

I have been hearing their calls frequently since last 4 years but never get to see the bird( I used to call them Seeti wali chidiya) but today I finally got to capture the bird in action ( calling) in my neighborhood clicked picture and searched on Google lens and found out the name

This guy do visit my backyard tree everyday !!! and has fixed timings of his calls, Morning 830 AM then in noon 4 PM.

Think its part of their daily routine and to announce their territory. During breeding season, their call with the mate is different and at those times the calls are more frequent.
