I know when the betta is flaring, it means he got mad, showing off his power. But to me, it just looks so cute.

Not all the time. It can also mean he/ she is sick, their gills will turn black which is normally done when flaring. It’s due to a bacterial infection or lack of oxygen and struggle.

@@aquashowroom4406 as for their tails that’s only done to whipping them and then slowly gliding in the water when they see the same sex in a neighboring tank if they’re not put in danger by adding that same sex fish to their tank. Normally is the case for males. Females can live in schools. Or quads. Hope you’re not an actual breeder. You’re not too informed about their behaviors and their reactivity. Much less how their reactivity is actually performed

Mona Harris thank you very much. If it’s your first time to get a betta, here are some tips:
      - look around for beautiful bettas. I prefer male halfmoon bettas because of their colors and wide fins. When you look at the bettas, check their fins if there are some ragged fins, you should aim for flawless fins. You can find some beautiful bettas in pet shops and even ebay but i personally prefer to order them from Thailand as they have good selections of beautiful bettas. You can check some here:
      www.shoppingisexciting.com/betta-shop
      - choose at least a 5 gallon tank for a happy and healthy betta and also to avoid very frequent water changes.
      - maintain water quality. You need to maintain water quality for a healthy betta, preferrably doing 50% water change weekly for a 5 gallon tank. Use water conditioner to tap water before using it in your tank (i use this: amzn.to/2LJ8goN). Add beneficial bacteria every water changes. I use this biological enhancer: amzn.to/2O1CUGK. Maintain critical water parameters like temperature (between 75degF - 82degF), ammonia and nitrites level, etc. I use this for easy water test: amzn.to/2OpgiRy
      - cycle your tank before putting your betta. Maybe allow at least four weeks before introducing your betta to the tank.
      - If you choose plastic ornaments to your tank, you need to ensure that they won’t rip the fins of your betta. I prefer to use live plants.
      - Observe your betta well so you’ll be able to immediately see any changes in behaviour or signs of poor health. Have some medications for common betta prpblems (fin rot, fungus infection, etc.) handy so they’re available when you need them.
      - I use this for varied food of my bettas: amzn.to/2LTXaN3
      - I use this for cleaning the gravels in my tank: amzn.to/2LYgPLG
Hope the above helps. Let me know if you have other questions.

I found that my fish were dying because I was given wrong information about water changing I do about a 30% water change for a 3 and 1/2 gallon tank and I clean out the tank once a month this is really done wonders in preventing fin rot. my suggestion would be don't worry if your fish doesn't eat he can go a few days without eating let's make clear out his system also try using almond leaves I heard the great for helping fish to recover and you need to see what illness he may have it could be bacterial or could be fungus

@@meggrotte4760 Hey, I'm a fellow betta owner here and I'm just recommending you do more water changes than one once a month. You do have a larger size then most people recommend at least so thats really good! But, you do only have a 3 1/2, so for that you must at least be doing a water change a week (if not more). You could do a heavy one and then a 25% if you want weekly. I mean no hate, just some recommendations because overtime the amount of nitrates, nitrites, and ammonia will do more harm than good by only doing a water change once a month.

I've got everything that's required for a Betta but I believe the quality of food is maybe not so good. In Taiwan we only have one kind I don't have access to Omega one betta pellets Omega one brine shrimp and bloodworms. I'm asking my sister to send me these things but in the meantime what I've noticed is the four fish that have died and the one that's having problems it's always related to fin rot when I buy fish they look healthy but they're sick and then the fish that I have now it looks like you had fin rot because his color is changing and his fins look a little bit raggedy under his neck but then he's not swimming right so what I did was I put him in a small tank with a little bit of water just enough for him to swim I put medicine that fights fungal infection and then I'm going to fast him to see if maybe that helps him with his swimming. I might have accidentally overfed him but I don't think so. the sad truth is I can't get my betta's to live past 6 months. now that I have everything that I need because I was told so many different things hopefully these two other betta's I have will continue to thrive and hopefully my blue veiltail will recover

My betta fish has a case of popeye at the moment, but it is more than that - it kind of looked as if something had raked itself across the entire left side of his face - there was damage under the eye and at the gills behind the eye. I have absolutely no idea what could possibly have caused this - he's the only living thing in the tank, and none of the decorations are sharp or dangerous, so it is a complete mystery to me what happened to him. Yet, the damage is there. Given the damage to the scales on that side of the face, the popeye must surely be from physical trauma and not infection, so at least I can be sure of the nature of the popeye.
I first noticed it last Friday, it is now Tuesday. He has not eaten anything in all that time. He was a slightly over-fed fish at the start - a few days prior I was starting to put him on a diet, but he was still with a little bit of a belly, so at least he started off this fast with a good reserve of fat to sustain him, but for being on the fifth day without eating, I am starting to get nervous even so about his lack of eating. I am worried there might be something wrong with the biomechanics of his mouth that might be preventing him from eating? His mouth is weirdly open most of the time in a way I am not used to seeing, and while he still blows the occasional bubble, he doesn't even *try* to eat anything. Even I put something literally right at his mouth so all he has to do is inhale, and he won't do it. I'm so worried that he can't do it even if he wanted to :(
Immediately after seeing the damage on his face on Friday I put him in a smaller tank with no decorations, and completely fresh water with aquarium salt and garlic juice added. On Saturday I gave him an epsom salt bath. On Sunday I gave him a full water change with aquarium salts again. On Monday, with still no signs at all of improvement, I started with erithromycin just to be sure. Even if the popeye is not caused by infection, with so many damaged scales I am still worried about the risk of an infection.
The gills on that side in particular don't properly close flush with the body, which also has me very concerned. The damaged scales at the gills have fallen away, so the gills definitely aren't being propped open by anything, but something is still preventing them from working correctly. And he won't, or can't, flare; presumably it is too painful to even try.
And my little fish definitely has no vision out of the popped eye. The other eye is still fully functional, but the popped eye is zero functional. I have no idea yet whether or not the vision will be restored, as the eye is still just as popped as ever. It's not getting worse, but it's also not getting better.
But most of all, I am dreadfully worried about his lack of eating. If he won't eat, he can't possibly recover. You need food to rebuild and recover from injury! He was such a vigorous and healthy fish, I am so indescribably sad to see him in this condition :( :( :(

Aqua Showroom it’s very ok that was a long time ago anyways at first i was really upset but I’m over with it now then when i first got tfat betta i was 8 years old but it lived 4 more years and it died when i was first turned 12 it got sick on my 12th birthday so that wasn’t a very good birthday the betta was in a tank with 2 fancy fantail goldfish and a bristle nose pleco they would leave each other alone so i was letting them stay because they were really friendly towards each other but sadly about five years later not long after i moved the goldfish and pleco to a different tank I’d also gotten 4 more fancy fantail goldfish and a calico fantail goldfish for some reason the pleco decided to turn on the two oldest goldfish in the tank and he sucked the slime off of them and killed them I couldn’t stop the pleco in time and after that I learned not to trust him anymore so I removed him and put him in an old 10 gallon tank then I replaced him in the new tank at that time with some ramshorn snails

Female Raditz Sorry about what happened. There are challenges in creating a community of fish and finding the right match. I have to remove my cory catfish from the tank with my betta as ive discovered it was eating the fins of my betta. Hi, I got my betta two days ago. Compared to my other betta he seems very shy but I now think it was illness as today he stayed in the corner of his tank. He struggled to move and his tail fin looks as though he has nipped at it (it did in the shop but not as bad) He got worse throughout the day so I have tubbed him (floating on top of his tank) and I have added meth blue to the water in the tub. Do you have any suggestions at all? I am not sure if he will make it through the night. It is so hard to tell what the illness is. The only other medication I have is for fin rot and ulcers

It could be a dropsy as one of the symptoms for such disease is a bloated appearance. Internal bacterial infection most commonly cause this disease. You can try doing 25% water change then lower the water a bit so the betta will not find it hard tk swim to the surface for air. You can try medications like Melafix and follow the instructions there. You can also add almonds leaves like what I've done and keep monitoring while you're doing the medications. Also keep monitoring for new symptoms to appear so to know what exactly causes the problem.

I'm pretty sure it is Fin rot and/or tail rot. I know for a fact it is a combination of several possible things. They had no heater, filter, did 100% water changes, tank is quite small, and the fake plant MIGHT be too sharp. It's not horrible but its not the softest plant out there. I had experience a similar situation to you of frayed fins and the betta not very active but he is healthy. I contribute the frayed fins when I havent done the water changes as frequently as needed when I got busy. Now im doing frequent water changes already. Hi. Im very sorry to hear about your betta. What are the other symptoms that your betta is showing aside from not eating? have you checked the water parameters and water quality? In my experience the betta can survive even for a week without eating. Like the one in the video, it was not eating for several days but I was able to treat the problem and so it was able to gain strength and eat again. so you should check and observe the symptoms and possible reasons for your betta not eating and treat it. salt is good for the healing process. but the fungal medication should be used if the symptoms show fungal infection.

if it's just torn fins, at least 50% weekly water change, almond leaves plus varied foods will help the betta's torn fins. i use cattapa X, the liquid variant of indian almond leaves weekly as it works faster: amzn.to/2QLkAVC
if youll use the actual leaves themselves, it will take about 3 days for them to start decomposing and so you can leave it for a week and observe your betta for signs of improvement. you can continue the use of it for some time but dont forget the weekly water changes. the advantage of the liquid variant is that everytime you change water you can immediately replenish the tannins from the cattapa x unlike with the actual leaves, it will need to decompose further to replenish the tannins.

You may want to look closely on your betta if there are other symptoms causing it to stay on top and not eating. A partial water change and monitoring water conditions (e.g. temperature, water parameters) may also help. Goodluck to you and keep us posted of your betta's condition.

Now on i have another betta with the same signs, it seems it is recovering. The only cause i am guessing is the type of substrate, similar to the one you have. • @aquashowroom4406
      @aquashowroom4406  5 років тому

xcube Sorry to hear about your two bettas. If it is a recurring problem, it could mean that the water parameters may not be in their right levels. Please check your water parameters. Also you need to check the frequency of the water changes you’re doing in your aquarium. Water changes are depending on the size of the aquarium, the quantity of the fish inside, etc. It is recommended to do 10-15% water changes weekly but again depending on the size, quantity of fish inside and other factors. Goodluck to you.
