Yeah I get the impression that the radar missiles the F-4E gets are not terribly useful anymore due to the change in the meta favoring pulse-doppler radars nearly exclusively, you can chaff radar missiles but you cannot flare/chaff cannon rounds lol
Ye... its extra rough experience, and that bird have somewhat functional IR missiles stock. Looking back, getting bombs as first thing and just plowing bases seems like least inconsistent way of working your way up to the Sparrows.
Even if you are completely spaded like I am you'll be lucky to get 2 kills or what usually happens 2 assists when you light a plane on fire or put it in a flat spin. Its also fun that most Russian planes get 30g missiles and you're lucky to have 20g
That’s exactly word for word the experience a friend of mine has in the F-4EJ premium, meanwhile F-4S players for the same price and almost the same BR get pulse Doppler and one of the more advanced Phantoms in the game

that attempt on the Tornado hurt my soul to watch... yeah you're not going to be hitting a supersonic target from 2.2 km behind them with an early Sidewinder. and the gun aim was... unfortunate
as soon as you spade and master flying the 4E, you become quite a danger to most other aircraft, i can get consistent 4 kill games or 2 when sharing it with my wingman
The Kurnass F-4E is in a same boat, except that you get AIM-9D's as your default missile, which is better than the E, by the way, I got the Kurnass after the flare update hit, therefore I was able to use flares without problems which was great. But yeah, the stock experience is not so great on this type of aircraft.

At least stock jets like those get flares now- kind of crucial given that we are at a point in War Thunder where 30g - 40g all-aspect IR missiles are standard fare lmao
For sure, back when I would have had no missiles and the first upgrade probably would have been 2 AIM-9B’s this would be practically impossible to stock grind overall

Only having rear-aspect IR missiles and no pulse-doppler radar against nearly exclusively targets with all-aspect IR missiles and PD guided radar missiles is certainly a bad setup, basically makes it so you have to play as a scavenger and nothing else

The F-4E before Apex Predators was my favorite top tier jet. If you knew what you were doing it was still very deadly. Agile eagle was insane!

Since I’m not good with shooting, I use missiles then get out of there, that’s how I got my F4c upgraded faster, and I’m still upgrading it.
At least we get some missiles stock now yeah, unlike way back when we had to start off with only guns and nothing else lol

It is the "Tracking Camera: Bomb/Torpedo" keybind under camera control; despite the name it works for missiles, rockets, bombs and torpedoes

Certainly wish they'd actually fix the cockpit for the E, it's not accurate in WT. EJ kai I think has a more accurate look but not perfect either.

Aim 9 Es are actually pretty good if you fire them at the right time and lead them correctly, like i would take them over r60s any day.
If they had better range i’d probably like them better, but when comparing those two together I still prefer R60s for their ease of use

How do I turn off the radar?
You can find the radar controls in your Y options menu, which will also include changing radar mode, search scale and more
