I think he would be the guy who was a proud warrior who could not be defeated, so when he met a warrior that bested him he wanted nothing more to beat him so he turned to despair and became an aspotle, only for him to sacrifice the only one better then him, now bound to search forever for somebody stronger, which he would eventually find in griffith.

Given Zodd's absolute "morality", it's possible he killed someone by cheating, someone he knew was vastly better than him, and it haunted him so badly afterward that he would do or did literally anything to remove that stain, and now simply lives to achieve death the "right way".
He's also, in literal terms, a damage check on the godhand. If you can't beat Zodd, there's no way you can face a member of the godhand and hope to win.

Alot of the apostles will "betray" Griffith. Either the Child or Guts will become their new leader.
I predict goat archer will defect, same with Grunbeld and Zod. The world will unite against Griffith as his plans to sacrifice Falconia to become the very False God of Evil itself. Whatever is left over from the events will go onto challenge Griffith before he tries to up the anty and sacrifice the entire world for his ambitions. His dream is a toxic, self serving one that is why he was chosen specifically by "fate" or "causality".
Griffith did *everything* wrong and will do much worse things than the first eclipse when this all happens.

Causality doesn't apply to Guts much like the gods dice in goblin slayer doesn't effect Orcbolg. He acts before the dice can be cast.
Leader? Maybe not. But something to consider here is this.. If the false God is removed from the equation.. Doesn't that mean that all the apostles disappear since it was borrowed power? Methinks it does.
The child appears when it's a full moon because his body was stolen by Griffith. He commands a very unusual respect/fear over astral beings and apostles. GUT's inner rage is supposed to be Fenrir. The Norse God that grows bigger and more powerful the longer it lives. Yet... The damned child pierced past that entity and through the armor to reach Guts.
The child is on a different level compared to other astral beings. And that's because he's Gut's kid, not because of Griffith. If anything, Griffith is siphoning /the child's power/ as well as his body.
Griffith is such an obvious false God that it hurts to see shortsighted people defend him.

Griffith having Zodd's loyalty might not last. Him beating Zodd is like a gamer playing with Invulnerability on. There's no skill as a warrior there. I also think Griffith making an Empire will inevitably land Zodd in the same situation he has always despaired in- Which is having nobody else to fight.
For Zodd, fighting the strongest may lie in him fighting the greatest battle there is to fight... which is Guts fighting against the world and Fate itself. I think that he may join Guts for this reason and turn on the Godhand- finally having the ultimate battle he's always wanted.

During the attack on Floras villa, we found out that Zodd has seen the Berserk armor, and knows of SKs connection to it. This suggests that Zodd dates back to the age of Gaeseric, as we recently found out that Gaeseric’s life ended during Voids ascension, we can disregard the previous assumption of his age being 300 years.
Here is my take on Zodd ascension to apostle. All head canon of course.
He was a warrior of skill and renown during the age of the waring states. His village/city capitulated to Gaeseric without resistance. Zodd saw this as dishonorable and cowardly, while he despised himself for understanding the decision. Defeat was inevitable, and Gaeseric razed opposing forces to set an example to deter opposition from others; Zodd understood that his own kin would die along with everyone else.
Zodd did not hate Gaeseric. He hated his own leadership. He wished he could cross swords with the legendary king clad in skeleton armor and test his mettle.
The first incarnation ceremony happens. Gaeseric disappears.
Zodd grows old, filled with regret that he never faced a legend. He has raised a family. But life felt empty, and he reminisces about the battle field.
In his old age, with failing health, the once mighty warrior despairs over his own decline. And the egg shaped trinket around his neck suddenly starts moving as though it is a thing living.

But Gaeseric isn't skull knight, at least the most recent manga chapter show us SK was indeed the king of elves, i really think Gaeseric is Void, as we know Void is the only member of god hand that remain untouched, unlike any other of the reamaning 4 members (as guts saw the flashbacks from the previos owner of the armor) who have been replaced, remember that chapter when they show an insane amount of people with the Brand of sacrifice? I really think Gaeseric sacrificed his entire kingdom to became the founder of god hand (Void) .

    • @MP-cf3pr
      @MP-cf3pr 3 роки тому +10

@@alanalb1449 Hold up, Alan. Could you provide more detail on your thinking? As far as I could extract from the last chapter we found out Skull Knight was likely the husband of Dannan's mother, who died during Voids ascension.
Personally, I haven't seen any evidence that points us away from Gaeseric being SK, or towards Void having been Gaeseric.
For my part, it seemed to confirm that Gaeseric(SK) had an alliance with Elfhelm, and likely even married into the kingdom, explaining his ability to conquer the continent with little opposition during his era.
Very happy to hear your full thoughts on the matter though. It would certainly be an epic twist after 15 years of red herrings.

Looking at his attire, I think he was a barbarian warrior, powerful, but something happened which made him unable to fight, either an illness or injury. Given the only thing he seems to value is strong opponents, then perhaps he sacrificed his opponents or his tribe. I think Guts and Zodd do appear to be similar, however Guts fights to protect Casca now, but Zodd probably never had anything like this. I think there is a real chance that Zodd will join Guts and Skull Knight, given that he likes a challenge, and who in the Berserk universe are stronger than the god hand, Zodd also wants to die, as he is bored of immortality and having such immense power. Now Miura has pasted, I don’t envy anyone trying to finish off this story.

I gotta admit, I really like the idea of Zodd being a frail mortal who was forced to sacrifice his loved ones.
There is a bitter sweet feeling to have some one craving power and not have it, only to gain it an lose everything.
Though the "Crippled Warrior" seems much more likely, being nursed by someone he grew to both love and yet despise as they represent his weakness.
Would explain why we haven't seen him think much off it, the sacrifice has been Justified by his code.

If I can guess Zodd's backstory, he was a talented nobody like Guts. He was big, he could work hard and he could fight. He became a mercenary to pay the bills. He had a "family" either blood relation or not. Zodd wanted to get stronger, think of Guts when he realized Casca had wandered off while he was apostle killing, but Zodd neglected his "family" because of his search to fight worthy opponents in the disguise of "working" and his family was tasked with taking him out or betrayal because of jealousy or he was injured and they were going to mercy kill him, but he sacrificed them to become an apostle. The way he wants Guts to make it t the Eclipse because it would be his date with destiny.... a date that I feel was something like his (betrayal by a friend and only the strong will survive logic kicked in).

As i expected the whole "warrior with band" part thing kinda makes sense, i originally imagined him being a bandit, who stopped killing for money and started killing to show his strength, his band of bandits were his best friends from childhood, until one day during one bad raid, he he was surrounded by friends trying their best to survive an elite group of knights trying to kill them, fortunatelly he got behelit, and despite the fact that he sacrificed what remained of his friends, he also happened to sacrifice random people. Thats how he was born

zodd transformed from a human to an apostle , because he needed the power to fight skull knight for the godhand. he doesnt kill defenseless people because he saw his own people he loved defenseless slaughterd by demonkind during his transformation and doesnt want to be like the demons that killed his loved ones , he simply was a guts-like warrior appointed by the godhand to take care of skull knight and sacrificed his loved ones to become an apostle because he felt the godhands bidding was absolute and had no option but to carry out their task

Your second theory is more than likely correct as I have theorized this as well based on the story patterns and the consistency of those patterns.
The problem with Gatsu is that he is both dumb and smart in a way a the same time. Early on in the Count Arc we learn that in order to call the god hand or the angels and I say angels loosely you had to have reached rock bottom. This begs the question that despite what Gatsu has went through from gambino, to the band of the hawk, being a century slayer, to the eclipse, to restoring caska, right up to where we are at in the manga.... He has not hit rock bottom yet!
This makes you wonder is he smart, dumb, or just that rare nobody or everyday human who is not anything special, but able to endure extreme hardships. I may have worded that sentence wrong, but even in real life I get similar instances where people don't understand me and are significantly shocked or surprised at my ability to endure such hardships.
    We are all fighting causality.

My guess is that Zodd was a very powerful honorable hero warrior who was almost unbeatable but one day he was almost killed by a group of opponents in an ambush and ended up sacrificing someone weak and defenseless but dear to him to gain the power not to lose in desperation and his only fighting of willing opponents is a way to "make up" for that.
Or he could have possibly been one of King Gaiseric's greatest warriors, always one of the best but always insecure that he could never actually defeat Gaiaseric himself in combat. Mabye during the fall of Gaiseric's empire Zodd was badly crippled in the chaos and the fact that he would never be able to challenge Gaiseric or anyone again drove an otherwise honorable man to sacrifice his family or something.

Many thanks for your completely new impressions. I thought right off the line that Nosferatu Zodd had a resemblance to Guts, which was confronting the strongest possible foes because he's strong, and only that. But thinking about it, what if Zodd was a weak human who had the obsession being the strongest of all warriors takes me out of the interesting thoughts that in a deterministic perverse way like Guts, Zodd is forced into actions contrary to his nature by following Griffith when only trying to escape one's destiny, or transcend, although there is a difference between Guts and Zodd in terms of sacrifice.
Perhaps this development is an absolutely pivotal one in terms of Berserk's story. Who knows, maybe the alliance between Zodd, Skull Knight and Guts is the deciding factor that was not foreseen by the God Hand. An apostle, a long known foe or friend or both and a human defeat one of the God Hand. What an epic.
BTW: Great channel. I would be honored to be one of your sacrifices. But tbh I would struggle.

Awesome video as usual! I have read all comments. Just one thought I have....
What if Zodd is a deserter god hand? :D
    - Theres 4 god hand before Femto, we dont know yet who was the 5th and what have happened to it.
    - Zodd is not joining the eclipse event (all other apostles seams to be there). He got more power/free will than other apostles.
    - Zodd dont have the classic apostle-look (monster with human face somewhere). Like god hand members.
    - Zodd is bound to Femto (the 5th god hand), maybe theres some deal like "bye bye fu all I do my own way now, but I will help you with the new guy thats the least I can do"
    - I read before that theres is a gap in the God hand 270~ year cycle, someone could have rejected their spot.
    - God hand members could represent this; intelligence/knowledge (Void), lust/flesh (Slan), trippy/crazy/happy (Ubik), gluttony/greed (Conrad) and then Zodd would represent strenght/power/wrath. Their looks and personalities you get my point.
So my long shot theory is that Zodd might have been a God hand but quitted and is now nerfed down, or he might have been close to becoming one but rejected the offer. He is for sure a very important character, alot more powerful and experienced than other apostles still nothing in power compared to the current God hand.

I feel like Zodd may be the struggler in between Skull daddy and Guts.
We know time repeats itself. And we also know that Zodd has been around for about 300 years. Meaning our eclipse was the second he witnessed.
What if his first was one of the God hand sacrificing Zodd’s very own band.
S.K succumbed to the Armour, so say he didn’t recommend it to Zodd.... but Zodd felt powerless against the God hand and with his dying breath activated a beheilet.

Name-wise, "Nosferatu" was the title given to the vampire character in F. W. Murnau's 1923 film "Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror." "Zod" (General Zod, actually) is the name of a Kryptonian villain in the DC universe, first encountered in Adventure Comics in 1961 as a foe to Superman. It cannot be suggested that Miura came up with these names himself, but his combining them for one character is rather interesting.
Frankly, I wish Miura had chosen better by using less-known character names or perhaps created one of his own. Neither character from which "Nosferatu Zod" is derived are similar in any way, and in fact, one can be killed by the sun's rays while the other gets all of his superpowers from the sun's rays. In the case of Nosferatu Zod himself, he can operate in shadows or in broad daylight. None of the characters in question are in any way alike in terms of their characters.
I'd liken him to a fallen angel or "Nephilim" as suggested in The Bible in terms of Nosferatu Zod's archetype. In The Bible, there is "Satan" or "Lucifer" who led one-third of the angels in heaven to rebel against God, and among these fallen there are levels of rank between them. Some ancient writings suggest that some of these fallen had sexual relations with women, resulting in baring children who became monstrous giants. Seeing as Miura uses some Christian themes for his ideas, it wouldn't surprise me if he became familiar with these legends.

I think similarly to you… my “thoughts” of zodds sacrifice played out in my head something like this... Imagine a battle for zodds homeland or whatever… zodd giving everything hes got as this glorious warrior (similar to guts), and finally succumbing in battle because of the sheer numbers. He then lay almost lifeless next to his parents. His mother, brutally attacked/raped, deceased next to him while his father, also beaten to near death, gives zodd permission to sacrifice him in order to avenge his mother. That would be really cool/different for any type of sacrifice scenarios already in the story and it would add to zodds likeablility since he technically didnt forceably sacrifice anyone unwillingly

      What do you think?

  • @Chaos4190
    @Chaos4190 3 роки тому +3

I don't see Zodd as someone who might of had a pathetic background.
I imagine he might have been something closer to an elite level boxer who never lost until father time came to be his opponent. The one thing that defeats all warriors. Somewhere I imagine he sacrificed those he once fought for, so that he didn't have to face the rigors of age.. maybe he might have lost to someone he was convinced would have no chance during his prime.
But then he becomes the apostle, perhaps defeating his enemy easily because of his new abilities, yet he doesn't get the same joy out of it. I suspect a similar thing has happened to Griffith in the sense that he has become what he wanted but his lack of humanity is leaving him cold to what the apostles have granted him... So Zodd takes a human like form when he pulls his punches, those who fight this form are in audition, if they pass then he can really fight at his peak abilities.
I imagine he must have been some kind of aging warrior who yearned for his prime. Not realising that it was the human limitation that gave his life meaning. His desire, like Griffith turned out to be a Monkeys paw. They got what they wanted but they can't enjoy it now. I am think this idea will tie into Guts and the Berserker armour, if he gives up his humanity in the course of seeking revenge he will end up as empty handed as Skull Knight z Griffith and Zodd...
I could go on, but all I will say is that Casca is the only thing that can pull him from that tragic fate, don't forget he chose Casca over revenge before. What this means to me is not that he won't pursue Griffith, but that he will not give up his humanity in the pursuit.

One of the numerous alleged origin of the word nosferatu could be a derivation of nefârtat (a romanian term roughly incorporated into the latin language) and would mean the unbrothered, the enemy, similar to the word Sheitan in arabic (the adversary) wich became Satan in biblical lore. Nosferatu is a complex word trully, sometimes it's just the vampyr, or the disease bearer, the one that does not breathe ... but to quote the manga it is said "we called him Nosferatu" so it is implied from the beggining that Zodd purpose and existence might be greatly misunderstood, and you rightfully points out that indeed he is nowhere seen to be a flesh eater, wich is in my opinion one of the greatest mystery surrounding the character.

But if im not mistaken when he fought skull knight during the eclipse, skull knight mentioned something of zodd being a guard, which would make sence since he is quasi inmortal, the only wound so far that hasnt healed being the horn. Maybe 300 years ago he was a knight or a guardsman that in order to protect whatever it was tasked to him, he sacrificed maybe a family or friends to become the inmortal monster that he is. But by doing so he grew bored and decided to wander around as a force of nature.

And the only thing that Zodd values to sacrifice is a rival he respect, maybe when he was asked what he wanted to sacrifice he believed that he would kill his rival and offer the body to the God Hand, but when he accepted he realized that he was not the one who have to kill his "beloved" rival and thats the reason he didnt went to the eclipse, becuase it make him remember the time he couldnt give a proper death to the person he most values.

His only explanation of being "who" he is in the original animation was he was "struck with the mood for genocide" which i read in the very first subtitles when i watched gray market subtitles of berserk in the lare 90's. So what that means to me is he just became a monster through his bloodlust. Correct me if im wrong.
