Transmissions seem very complicated. Might as well be Quantum physics to me. Motors I can understand. Great video. I have a Twin cam Harley.

2007 ultra, at 32k the main shaft bearing was howling. Also, the splines inside the clutch drum were broke half way up the shaft. Anyway, this was all because of the factory automatic primary chain adjuster. I put a se manual adjuster and se compensator in, bike runs and starts great now, with 65k miles. Love your videos!

@@KevinBaxter Thanks Kevin I appreciate the hard work you do and I’m going to make a trip down to Winder Georgia sometime in the next 6 to 7 months to have you look at my 2006 deluxe. It runs great and has a Andrews 26 cam in it when the dealer put the Screaming eagle cam plate with the hydraulic tensioners in and changed the inner can bearings and they also put a Vance and Hines programmer but I feel I can get more out of it so I’m going to make the 13 hour drive and I would like you too maybe make it bigger or a different cam setup without that Vance & Hines programmer in it.
So basically what I would want is the bike “Bulletproofed like some of your customers ask you to do. That bike is in like new show room looking condition. My brother passed away and left it to me and the bike spent most of it’s life in Palm Beach Florida. It was was also never ridden in the rain so it’s in pristine condition and it also has some special sentimental value to me. So I’m hoping I see you in the next 6 to 7 months.
I will most definitely call ahead of time and schedule an appointment with you. Thank you very much again for all your hard work and the sharing of these excellent video series!

Thanks for the vid, I have done 4 speeds and 5 speeds and I have a 6 speed in a box out of 2007 Street Glide that we replaced with a Baker 7. I was always going to rebuild it, but I like to watch an expert before I jump in to projects like this. I'm not sure how bad it's going to be, it has 80,000kms on it and took the main drive gear bearing out due to HD's famous primary chain tensioner from Hell. We put the Baker Attitude Adjuster in on the install to prevent that from happening again.

    Hi Kevin:
Have been enjoying your videos very much. I grew up in Tulare Ca. on the track. Had a very fast half mile track in our town. ( as it turned out track was much faster than me.)
Haven't been on a bike in 35 years. In my retirement now. Looking at buying an older Road King. I have no problem turning a wrench. My question is about Transmission wear.
What king of mileage would be excessive for a transmission? 5 speed or 6 speed ( given previous owner wasn't a drag racer.)

Kevin, I am looking a 107 build by ProTwin for my 08 Fatbob. I currently have an 103 in the bike with modifications it makes 109hp and 109tq. I use it more as a hot rod than two up riding even though at times my wife will ride with me. I would like to know what hp and tq rating I might expect switching to a 107. I want it built up with a bulletproof bottom end (new straight crank, cams with gears, s&s cam plate, etc). I will be using my D&D Fatcat exhaust (unless you know of a better alternative). Everything else would be what you put in it. The heads have been ported by Wolfgang Glasser out of Baytown TX. I have the flow sheets for the head if you need them. It currently has a 50mm throttle body (not sure what injectors), but that like anything else can be upgraded by your advise. Would like to see 120+tq with 115+hp if possible. Please let me know if this is possible with a 107. I would also like to schedule a consultation for this build when ever we can get together. Thanks again and keep those videos coming, love you work.

If it wasnt a total rebuild, a puller wouldve been involved. It didnt take much anyway...the gasket had been leaking and wasnt stuck.

Are the bearings in the “Jim’s rebuild kit” Actually any better than stock bearings? Or are they simply stock bearings packaged in the kit.

If a transmission itself (not the clutch) needs repair before 80,000 miles that is totally unacceptable.

Hopefully you see this. We recently bought everything individually to rebuild the transmission minus new bearings. The transmission will free spin until we torque down the nuts and then it won’t spin at all. It’s like it’s completely locked up. Any idea what that might be?
