What is with this "Sir" business poppin' up everywhere after the names these days? It's like a reverse Knighthood conferred on the elderly and famous musicians! Whatever happened to the simple Sri or Srimaan, Avl so and so? And how about the Lady Musicians? and why they are left out? And I would say it's a "bull ...." if I hear someone say that "sir" title is for added respect!
I post this with all due respect.. I have this strong feeling that this in not Guru Karaikudi Mani Sir whose playing mridangam.. if u happen to have the entire concert then u could cross check the same. The Patterns played in this track is not typical like how it is in Guru Karaikudi Mani 'Bani'..
Hi Sumesh Babu, Thank you for letting me know about this. I also had the same doubt when first posting it, but went ahead to label it as Mani sir, because the concert label had said "MSG-Narmadha-KRM". This is the only recording I have from that concert.
I’m impressed there are so many people that can actually recognize Karaikudi Mani by the phrases played. Amazing. Keep it up!

I suspect this (sir and madam) is something the artists themselves liked better than the old time Sri and Srimati.
The mridangam is certainly not by Karaikudi Mani. He wouldn't play many of those end-phrases even if he were threatened with death.
Besides that Karaikudi Mani will not play for woman artist.
I doubt this is Mani sir. The whole style is not like Mani sir at all.
