M.S. Subbulakshmi & Karaikudi R. Mani - O Rangasayee
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 тра 2015
- From the legendary 1974 concert in Osaka, Japan.
This is truly a gem of a rendition, of one of the most beautiful songs in Kambhoji ragam, and in Carnatic music. What makes this recording even more memorable is that Mani sir is playing on a kucchi mridangam! The sounds that he produces evidently show his unparalleled clarity, melody, and his ability to bring out the very best of the instrument. His accompaniment perfectly complements M.S. Amma's singing.
Simply put, it's the God of mridangam sharing the stage with the Goddess of Carnatic music.
After a brief silence, Karaikudi Mani rejoins MS Subbalakshmi's singing at 1:58. And what follows until 2:09 is nothing short of genius!
And, by the way, Indians and Carnatic classical music should thank the Japanese for the great quality of the recording.
Remember, this was not recorded in India by some studio or some entity like All India Radio. It was recorded on tour in Japan.
2:41 classic mani sir style
Meaning:
When I address you as O RangaSAyI and call you earnestly, can't you respond by uttering "O" and appear? It is said that sage RucIka, who happened to be turned into a wasp, become one with Lord Shiva by changing His name. You seem to regard SrI Rangam as your Supreme abode VaikuNTha itself and lose yourself in the enjoyment of the company of your consort SrI DEvi. When will there be an end to my sufferings in the midst of men who are so insular that they cannot stand the prosperity of others? I seek solace and relief from my hapless situation. Grant me your vision with garlands of pearls dancing on your bosom, O Lord, adorning the heart of TyAgarAja!

So monumentally melodious....The best in Kamboji !
Thanks a lot Aditya! One of the rare videos of Mani sir playing in kutchi moottuu..
The strokes played at 1:47 proves that it is Mani sir. Moreover in the development period in anupallavi the sollus played are likely to be Mani sir's style of development.
I can say this because I am learning in Mani sirs school or from one of the prime disciples of Mani sir
Sankarasubbaiyer Raman absolutely you are right. Those sollus were from the fingers of Mani iyer .And if a mridangam learner from his school like you tells about it will be Mani iyer mostly. Thanks a lot sir
Soulful music

I always thought Karaikudi Mani Sir always use kappi mrindagam.
Viknendran Mahalingam Hi Vikram - yes, Mani sir played with kappi mridangams primarily; this recording is a rare one of him playing on a kucchi mridangam.
Hi Aditya, Thanks for the wonderful upload. Can you please list the songs from the Osaka Concert.
Regards,
Aditya.
Hi Aditya, would it be possible for you to list some of the pieces in this concert here? Thank you
I think this is the same concert:

@@ShriramVasudevanMusic thank you for sharing this
This is a historical concert MS amma accompanied by Sri Guruvayur Dorai Sir on the mridangam and not Sri Karaikudi Mani.
Hello Mr. Raguraman, you are referring to the other O Rangasayee UA-cam video sung by MS Amma. Guru Karaikudi Mani is in fact the mridangam artist for this recording.
@@adityar756 I was little dispointed when i saw the other comment...thank you for proving this.
Just listen to the style of Accompine (Mrudangam ) its his Unique way of Accompine.... Its One and only mani sir 🙏
