    Until recently, I hadn’t even considered buying a specific amplifier for my electronic drum kit. I’ve previously used a Bass amplifier for my kit to practice. Using my bass amp for the kit was annoying due to the level of feedback and hum that it produced. Bass and keyboard amps are not designed to process all of the various frequencies that can be produced by drum kit modules so I’m glad I bought this amp. I wanted to share my perspective with anyone interested. I hope it’s useful.

    I had this exact drum amp for about a year before it took a dump. I had always played with the volume around 4 - 5. I decided to bring it up to 7.5 one day and it red lined! Sub is blown. All I get now is a weak volume with no bass.
    Luckily they're fairly cheap because the shipping + labor cost to fix is almost as much as a new one. It worked great while it worked and would probably be best with a 2nd Strike Amp 12 to run in stereo. I just wanted to share my experience how mine blew within a year.

      I had the same experience and Alesis never responded to my warranty until months later after the fact, I could care less of the 2000K watts (smoke screen) the proof is in the playing and the amp is not near loud enough for 2K watts and I too had the same mysterious blown experience. I won't buy from Alesis after that experience and their neglect to make it right..

      Thanks for sharing. I'm pretty sure these and the similar Avid Headrush active speakers are literally just marked up Alto rebrands. So if I choose to go this route? I'll probably just get an Alto with slightly higher specs. Especially seeing as I intend to potentially use it also for guitar/bass amp sims w/ cabinet IR's as well.
      That? Or possibly save some coin and browse the local used marked for a decent spec multi channel keyboard amp?
      IDK...
      Still kinda sorting out my budget & options.
      Anyway, thanks again for sharing!

    I used to own those same Alesis Monitor One MkII speakers! They were my first mixing monitors. I eventually upgraded to a pair of active
    Kali Audio LP-8 1st gen. The front ports on the Kali's really helped with low frequency standing nodes in my room. Although the 8" Kalis are definitely overkill for my apartment! Ha!
    As an e-drummer, bassist, and guitarist who mainly uses amp sims? I'm honestly looking for a good all 'rounder.
    This Alesis Strike amp 12, the Avid Headrush 12, and the Alto equivalent seems pretty identical rebrands IMO.
    My E-kit:
    Late 80's Mapex Mars 4pc (10/16/22) DIY conversion w/ Remo Silent Stroke heads & Ddrum Redshot triggers
    Boom Theory Space Muffins 12" dual zone snare
    Roland TD-6V V-drum module
    Lemon Cymbals
    EZDrummer 3/ML Sound Labs Drums/Steven Slate Drums/SPD2

    Thanks, I've been using a EV ZLX12 powered speaker for a couple of years. It has a hissing sound in it now so I think I'll give this a try as its specifically designed for electronic drums. I've used QSC K sereies and don't like them at all. In the past I've had a JBL PRX 12 inch which was very good.

    What if my drum module does not have a right and left output?
    I have the Roland TD-02K V-Drums set.

    great review! i'm planning to get one these days. I have a USB Dac which is connected to my macmini, it has xlr and rca outputs, so i guess i will connect the dac from xlr to both strike amp inputs?

    Great explanation. Question: is the 8 played loud better than the 12 played quiet?

    • @PowercoatMusic

      That's a good question. I have not been able to test that scenario. Maybe some one else can verify? 👍🏿

    Thanks for uploading ! I have a Roland td4kp electronic kit - great little kit and so handy . I’ve purchased an Alesis strike amp 12 Mk2 , happy with it but noticed that when I plug into the mono left out only of my module into the input of the amp the sound is not very loud at all , I have the volume on 9 on the amp and my volume output on the module to 3/4 to nearly all the way . I’ve noticed it’s louder when I connect both left and right outs from my module to the 2 inputs of the amp? Is this normal ? Also I have a small 6 chanel behringer mixer , would I get more grunt from the amp if I connected mono or both outputs from the module into 2 channels of the mixer and then connect 2 cables out from the mixer to both inputs of the amp ? That way I have more eq to play with on the mixer , could this help to increase volume output ? Really appreciate Any help/advice - cheers

    How does this compare to the Simmons DA2112?

    • @PowercoatMusic
      @PowercoatMusic  Рік тому +1

      It's very comparable. It's almost as if they were made by the same manufacturer. Thanks for watching. 👍🏿

      Simmons has Bluetooth connectivity. Looks like Alesis does not. While not good for drums due to latency, being able to use it as a bluetooth speaker for streaming music is a big plus in my book.

    Do you use the 2 volume knobs in mono?

    • @PowercoatMusic

      No, just the left Volume 1 control for mono. Thanks for watching. 👍🏿

    Can anyone here tell me how to open the door to change the fuse on the back of the speaker? Nobody on UA-cam or at Sweetwater knows how to do it. Thanks..

    • @PowercoatMusic
      @PowercoatMusic  Рік тому

      Hey Joe, If the unit’s fuse is broken, lift the tab right below the 3 prong plug-in to replace the fuse. Replace it with a fuse with an appropriate rating (printed under the unit’s power cable input). Using a fuse with an incorrect rating can damage the unit and/or fuse. I hope this helps and thanks for watching.
