Anne has a very active imagination, only natural for a writer. But in her mid-thirties, she still knows practically nothing of her own family's past. After her mother's death, Anne discovers old photos and letters that convince her to take a closer look at the life of her parents, Michael and Léna. The young couple met in the concentration camps during World War II, later moving to France to start their new life together. Soon, Anne's research into their Jewish history and their ties to Lyon's communist party reveals the existence of a mysterious uncle, Jean, whom everyone seems intent on forgetting entirely. As she gradually closes in on the discovery she didn't know she was looking for, her father grows ever more ill, and may take the secret that kept them apart for so long to his grave. In a journey that stretches from post-war France to the 1980s, Anne's destiny intertwines with her father's past until they form a single, unforgettable story.

A fabulous film. Not well advertised, so if you see it, run and go.....wonderful story, cinematography, actors are terrific. You'll get over the subtitles quickly because it's such a terrific unexpected story.

I kept thinking while watching it that this movie would have been better in written form as in a book.
Has Diane Kurys written a memoir? I know there are only bits and pieces of real stuff in this movie as well as in the movie Entre Nous AND much of what she thought of her sister's background is pure speculation. Still it might be interesting to read.

There are so many of these that are hard to find, the French and the English (eyes on BBC) are sitting on lots of high quality stuff.
I would like to see a trailer in english rather then seeing it with english subtitles
its a French movie so that's not gonna happen ..
You'll get over it....see it, won't regret it. Promise!
Dubbed movies are AWFUL. You lose the so much about what comes through in language that aren't the words. Each language has it's own flavor, and every culture's identity is wrapped up in it's language. I understand why you might prefer dubbed films. They are more immediate. I implore you to give subtitles more time. They're worth the effort.
the english and the americans need to stop dubbing or remaking movies, just deal with the subtitles please. first of all you wont actually lose the content and second, you might read better;)

Then you be missing out on 100's of good films if you are insisting on either dubbing or films made only in the language that you speak.
I remember some terrible old Italian films which were dubbed in English. All the men sounded like dumb goofs or tough guys
