Purchase of equipment’s from contracted nation ( China or Dutch) is a concern but we need to compare the same with international standards to come into a conclusion . As far as I remember , Mahaweli project had a similar structure with various donor nations employing engineers and machineries which resulted in most of the FX attributed o the projects ending up with the donor nations. However, it seems to be less democratic than te western style democracies like SL. Their economic model is a combination of SOEs , private owned enterprises and mix of both. Th model has successfully elevated the country to have the most companies in the fortune 500 list by 2022. Also, it has surpassed US as the largest economy ( in PPP) by 2015. We in SL have a lost o learn from both systems and our economic system is actually a refection of both . Therefore , I would suggest you to learn from western scholars in assessing China even when its considered an enemy .
