I've missed you all so much. Thank you for hanging in with me.
Welcome back!
Hey Rich, glad you're back and I'm very sorry for your loss. It hurts a lot, I know that right now myself, my mom has passed away just a few weeks ago. I'm sure your mom was very proud and she has had every reason to. I know you only from your lessons but it's quite clear what kind of a (hu)man you are. More of your kind would benefit all of us. Music helps coping with loss and hurt and our lives will go on, always remembering our lost ones, they are with us and in us. All the best and keep on, love what you're doing.
@@alexl.9917 I'm so sorry to hear about your dear mom, Alex. I wish no one had to go through this terrible pain. I thank you so much for your kind words. That really does mean a great deal. Honestly, I am the (hu)man I am because of my mom. Lots of love and strength to you and your family during this difficult time, my friend. ❤🙏🏾
@@alexl.9917 well put alex. Beautiful message.
@@soulstart89 thank you, it's for a beautiful soul. Though I don't know Rich personally, I'm so sure about him being an absolutely good and amazing person, just listen to some of his amazing work is all for me to see and feel that.
Thank you for the lesson Rich. Your mother rests in peace knowing she raised such a good man like you, who helps so many people selflessly.
You are a brilliant educator. I have never heard improvisation taught like this.
You are a treasure to the bass world! Not knowing you, I’d venture to say a treasure to humanity as well. I love your content! Your a great teacher with a calm demeanor, and thorough explanations. Thank you 🙏
That means a lot, Justin. Thank you so much. 🙏🏾
One of the coolest, laidback guy's on the internet, and great player with great feel and cracking aptitude for teaching. Great to see you back man.
YES to this!!!
I just found your channel and I'm loving it. I'm 63 and started bass a couple of years ago. Your presentation style is relatable and you're a good communicator. Thanks for your instruction.
Thank you so much for the very kind words, Jim. That mean a lot.
63 and playing bass is one of the greatest things I have ever heard! Usually you would expect 63 year olds to hate music, and yet we have great people like you still jamming to music!
I just discovered your vids and have to say that the way you teach makes SOO much sense to me. With two videos I've seen you have made sense of some of my troubled areas of playing. Thanks for the goods my friend.
Way to go Rich...the best down to earth concept to learn soloing...you are a great teacher. Regards from Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦
I love the intro music!!! As usual, you have an approach that I've never seen or thought of before that makes so much sense!!! I'm always amazed that you never express concern that what notes are being played! Brilliant as usual! Thank you so much for sharing your gifts and knowledge!!!
Holy moly. This just blew my mind. Never even considered approaching soloing this way.
Welcome back. And thank you for continuing to open my mind to all sorts of new ideas.
Hey Rich, I've only just got round to watching this video and it's great to see you back. Another fantastic lesson and well worth the wait.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you and your family are well.
Man, I keep coming back to this video lesson!
😂🤣😂🤣 It’s still 🔥.
Really cool video and soloing idea. As someone that has never felt great about their soloing this will definitely become part of my practice routine. As always, thanks Rich
You bring a different perspective on learning this instrument. What a great way of learning your scales at the same time. Very clever, very smooth.
Sorry to hear about your loss - thanks for getting back to us in this space that you've created.
Glad to see you back Rich. Another great lesson and a new challenge to work on, as always. Thanks.
Good to have you back! Thanks for the very useful lesson!
Thanks again for the lesson and welcome back! I'm happy to support the content you're putting out, it's all amazing material to learn from. Cheers!

Rich, love the new look to the Brown'stone and the opening vibe. Thanks for your practical instruction. Blessings!
Thanks so much for this. Just what I needed to take the next step. Not only does this open doors from a creativity perspective, but it also bridges the gap between things I already know.
I’m glad that you are back, and hope everything is really well! Thank you ❤️
Thanks, Rich! Your techniques are always great! Soloing nice!
Thank you for all your expertise! This is a great simple step-wise way to build fills and solos. You are awesome!
every time I watch one of these I learn a new way to look at creating music. Thanks Rich!
...this was also an excellent lesson. Thanks. It's good to have you here again.
This video has helped me greatly!
Last summer I got a bass as a gift, but I stopped playing 2 months later because life. Now I'm picking it back up, just re-learned the fretboard and even though I'm not ready for soloing yet, you helped me understand the method behind it.
Thanks a bunch man!
Made perfect sense.
Thank you for this lesson.
Thanks Rich, the best bass mentor on social media. Life will try us everyday but we've got to push forward. I learn a lot from just watching and absorbing.
So good to have you back …masterful as always Great lesson 🙏

THIS IS SOOOOO GOOOD! THANKS RICH!
Super useful and practical info on creating cells of notes. Thanks for posting!
Thank you for the lesson - I appreciate you
Terrific teaching. Thank you.
Hi, it is great to join this channel! After 30 years of playing guitar... I got my first bass ever (Yamaha TRBX505). I already viewed many videos and it gives a complement of what I knew about the theory but also a new point of view of triads, modes and ... the fret board! Thank You Rich!
Thanks so much for making this lesson Rich. You are such an insparation👍🏽🫶.
This is a rad idea! Thanks for sharing!
Wow!! Thank you Rich! That was an awesome epiphany. God bless you, hope all is well 🙏☝️🫵
Loving You work, was waiting inpatiently for new videos. Wishing You all best!
Fantastic way of teaching how to build a solo so cool.
Thank you so much
AFrenchman
Great lesson, thank You !
What a clear way to demystify soloing. Thanks!
Thanks for this! I’ve never thought of soloing from the perspective of building cells of notes like this to create motifs and phrases. This makes perfect sense to my very linear and sequential way of thinking. I’ve always viewed soloing as a much more abstract improv, which leaves me scrambling on my fretboard on stage….versus building a solo using this cells of notes method. Your approach clicked for me and gives me something meaningful to practice and experiment with. God Bless!
Good to have you back Rich, really enjoyed that one, always struggled with soloing but it’s nice to know how to apply a more melodic approach, keep it up
This was so helpful. I’m new to the soloing game and I can use all the tips. Thanks sir 👍🏾🙌🏾
Welcome back, love your lessons, I'm still working through your course on SBL on the modes, fantastic course, Its helping me out in a big way, Thanks :)
That was awesome!
It's nice to see you back 😊. This was most definitely a inspiring lesson ( motivated myself) please keep the awesome content coming!!
Thank you very much, Tony. I'll do my best.
Great cool playing.. Thanks
That's a very cool and helpful approach for building solo phrases, thank you. Never been the soloing guy, but now after more than 40 years of playing I have one song where a bass solo was needed and I've found it in an almost identical way. It's over a chord progression and I also divided it into cells (though I had no idea they were cells ;-) and the use of some 'binding' notes between the chords helped in keeping it simple and another benefit was, that the starting note of the new chords never were the roots, but thirds or sevens. Good to see I wasn't soooo wrong with my approach though watching your video a few months ago would definitely saved time 🙂
All the best and lots of good wishes
Thank you Mr Brown amazing as always.
Really nice explanation! I like the idea of adding notes like that. That's a great looking bass. Great tone too
MR BROWN your the best teacher and your explanation is crystal clear, thank you so much 😍
Great to see you back, Rich. That's an interesting approach to soloing that I've not seen before. Will definitely give it a try. 👍
Glad you are back sir. I hope things are getting brighter for you every day.
Welcome back Rich, we were worried about you! Never thought to approach solos like this, brilliant! I would usually just play the minor pentatonic starting on the 3rd in this scenario, but this approach feels more creative and musical, thanks 🙏🏻 💪🏻
LOVE this lesson brother Rich. Sharing far and wide as well as internalizing it myself. Thank you for the treasure trove of methodologies and (more importantly) mind sets around exploration and music making. You my friend, are my North star...
My brother! Thank you so very much. Lots of love to you and yours, Damian. I hope you're doing very well.
Thanks Rich... this has been really helpful.
thanks for this cool lesson !
So sorry for your loss sir, my condolences. Happy to see you back. God bless.
That's really quite brilliant, and easy to understand. I really appreciate your straight-forward and logical approach. You have helped me so much.
Welcome Back!!! You’ve been missed. Love your insights.
Right on, Rich🙌🏽Best wishes!
Man, I’ve been lovin’ these videos! Feeling inspired. 🤩
I’ve watched the video again and I can say, that to me , it’s by far the best lesson on how to build a solo that I have ever seen.
Thank you so much for your Generosity and for sharing your Rich❤ talent, Rich.
Wow! That's very kind. Thanks so much, Patrick.
This is super cool, Rich! Great to see you back!
So great!
Really cool man! Digging the groove. 😎
Wow. You are opening my mind up.
Great lesson as usual, I'm far from even considering soloing but I find this approach also very interesting for building basslines from simple patterns to more complex ones. I'm deeply sorry for your loss, hope you're hanging on, my prayers will be with you. Peace.
Thank you! 👊🏾
Bless you man 🙏🏻❤️
Rich we are always with you. Take care.
Wow, that’s an amazing thing about solos!
Glad your back man, thanks and come on!😎
Thanks!
A cool & simple approach - thank you!
I liked this. Gonna check out your other videos now.
Brilliant exercise!
I enjoy your teaching but most important you are great much appreciated 🕊🤙🏾
Awesome 🔥
Great to see you back again
Welcome back, Rich! Great lesson!
I love this approach! I struggle with solos, that very anxiety you mention at the beginning, when I know it’s coming. I often just pre-plan my solos, which isn’t very satisfying and a little unoriginal for the rest of my band. I know a lot of scales, but it always feels like so many notes and I don’t know where to start and end up over playing. I love limiting it to just two notes above and below to start, then forced to just creative with that. Can’t wait to give this a try live! Thank you so much!
That was excellent
Thanks mr you're a awesome teacher
I just found your channel. This is a little over my head but I get some of it. I will watch it a few more times. I am intermediate bass player with little theory knowledge. Thank you for your knowledge sharing and efforts.
Thanks Dude, great video!
Please accept my sincerest condolences. I'm so sorry for your loss. Lost my dad last year. It took some time to adjust, I totally understand you taking time off. It does get better but takes time as I'm sure you're realizing. Grateful for you and this channel. I am so glad you're back. Your teaching style is uniquely your own and it's sooooooo chill. I love it! All the best to you.
Yesssssss my Rich Brother, keep 'em coming! ❤🔥❤🔥❤ Currently in New York but will get cracking once I get back to Barbados 👍🏽🙏🏽
This really helped a lot thank you for this Rich.
BEAUTIFULLY EXPLAINED SIR
REALLY LOVE IT...
This is one of my most favorite music theory videos I’ve ever watched! 💯🐺🌮💯🐺🌮✅🎸
Looking forward to utilize this lesson to play a solo for Come Together.
