$20 Apple earbuds lossless sound!

- Apple’s $19 usb-c wired earbuds allows impressive lossless & hi-res lossless audio compression on Apple and android products with usb-c. The resulting sound quality rivals my AirPod Pro 2 ($249) and my Beats Studio pro ($349) in the upper-mid range, I also do a mic test of all three headphones for phone calls and recordings.

Apple Lossless compression: The Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC), also known as Apple Lossless, or Apple Lossless Encoder (ALE), is an audio coding format, and its reference audio codec implementation, developed by Apple Inc. for lossless data compression of digital music. After initially keeping it proprietary from its inception in 2004, in late 2011 Apple made the codec available open source and royalty-free. Traditionally, Apple has referred to the codec as Apple Lossless, though more recently it has begun to use the abbreviated term ALAC when referring to the codec

Bro shocked that a wired mic sounds better than a wireless mic
The coding is same, the only difference should be the latency. Not mic or sound quality.
$20 mic
That's how it is no matter what is is majority of the time a decent wired IEM has better sound quality and mic quality then ALMSOT any wireless headphones or wireless earbuds below 300 bucks. It's hard to beat anything that gets fed direct power.

That mic sounds really good
I wish I had a proper way to also let you hear the earbuds.
Most wired headphones do Bluetooth sucks for mic quality
Honestly wired earpods we're always the gold standard for price to performance.
Actually I bought them because it has an even better microphones than AirPods Pro 2 lol
My 8 year old 3.5mm earpods also do
audio engineer here. the sound enhancement does not need to be on if you are listening to lossless because to put it in layman’s terms, it basically is adding detail to lower quality audio.
also as many have said, you do not need usbc earphones to get lossless. any wired headphones can support lossless. the audio loss is caused by bluetooth, that’s why most bluetooth headphones like airpods don’t have lossless but the wires do.
Thank you for the feedback and expertise , however the usbc earpods sound better than the beat headphones that were also plugged in with a 3.5mm jack in the video, and the earpods. I listen to all 3 headphones on normal middle high and sound enhancer off. Which might be hard to tell in a 1 minute video. I also later compared the all of apples wired buds in my next short video. The usbc wired buds still sounded different on the mic and ear piece on the buds. Once again all of that might not translate in a minute video. Thanks again.
@@PhearNoneGearGadgetsthey all support lossless doesn't mean they will sound the same, beats are known to sound bad, but yeah the sound enhancer is bad unless you don't care much about what is truly meant to be heard
@@PhearNoneGearGadgetsbeats are known to be bass cans with little high end detail and a very bassy muddy sound profile. Of course earpods will sound clearer.
@@PhearNoneGearGadgetsbeats are overrated trash. Look into something like AKG (if you can find some), Sennheiser, or other audiophile brands. Also get a DAC and preamp. Beats have no balance at all, jus dirty bass and no soundstage. Go for high end open cans. It will change your life.

mic quality is amazing

ANY WIRED HEADPHONES SUPPORT LOSSLESS AUDIO GOD DAMN so tired of this debate
The device is not piping analog audio through usb-c, a dac inside the earpods cable supports hi res audio streams.
Still, it's earpods tho so why even bother with hi res audio.
The mic sounds good at least.
My jbls show lossless, HI res lossless is only usefull if you have an external dac as a phone or max output it's not enough
@@Samjacknewman lossless audio via bluetooth doesn't exist yet, max you can do is stream up to 990kbps with the LDAC codec and that ain't lossless audio even though it's marketed as “hi-res wireless”. Lossless audio starts from CDQ 16bit/44.1 khz which is 1441 kbps and you need a streaming service that can provide that files like Tidal or Apple Music for example, Spotify provide compressed files up to mp3 320kbps
You ain’t tired. You have enough air to scream. Keep going 🤭

Of course it supports lossless, ANALOG SIGNAL. Any wired headphones technically supports lossless
We need more clarifications audiophiles
@@GeneralDante108lossless audio is basically a file that doesn't remove detail from the original when its encoded, unlike lossy files which remove detail for the sake of file size, Flac, alac and wav are all lossless formats, (note, if you don't have lossless audio files or a lossless streaming service ex- quobuz, amazon music HD etc, you will not notice a difference in your music. Another thing of to note is high res lossless music does not make that much of a difference, compared from going to mp3 320kbps to a lossless cd quality flac, you also cannot change a mp3 into a lossless file, it doesn't work that way

Wired for computer wireless for phone! Easy as that
My boy! Cables are amazing eh? I believe they support lossless because of the cable! They don't have to encode the music over Bluetooth and decode it, you can send any res signal over a wire, not Bluetooth, also great choice man!!! Would you buy wireless airpods if you had the wired ones first?
Actually the digital to analog converter in these headphones are really good. For wireless audio the only format that can support lossless wireless audio over Bluetooth is LDAC which is made by Sony and usually be found on Android phones in terms of phones not all android but some.
@@r81365 oooh gotcha, thanks for clarifying
Not true. LDAC is 990kbps max 330kbps min and lossless is 1456kbps minimum. Or 1.5 times the best of the best wireless. It is the cable.
@@johnantonopoulous6381 the cable still does not make lossless audio happen. There is always some converter or some format that makes it.

bro these used to be 30 how on earth did they actually make them cheaper in our post covid inflated economy?

Truuuu
Not worth it, they sound shit. Lossless just means analogue, and iphones don't support high bitrate output anyway, go and buy a really nice set of in ear monitors for 100 bucks, and they'll last forever. If one earbid dies, or both, in ear monitors have replacable cables, and you can just get another cable for cheap. Never buy into apples rubbish, it's all just cheap shit with a brand on it, like akg is now, like bose, beats, and even alot of home audio and car audio gear.
EarPods are the absolute best bang for your buck as far as audio goes, both for the earbuds and the mic. A massive glow up from the old 3.5mm earbuds they would ship with iPods.
Agreed.
Please don't expect quality from beats

Obviously wired earphones would support lossless audio 🤦 because you don't have to compress the audio file to share it over Bluetooth or other wireless medium. But there is another type of compression as well which is done in case of send the music from cloud to the app but why would that be related to earphones🤔
It doesn't, but you're not forced to take that compression into a count
Bro i think 192khz is total gimmick 😂 what are your thoughts??
This is super well made and informative
THANKS FOR WATCHING AND THE FEED BACK!
Great. Great quality.
ALL WIRED AUDIO GEAR IS LOSSLESS WTF
Kinda... That used to be true. But now the DAC (the thing that turns the digital 1's and 0's into analogue for the speakers) is no longer in the phone. With USB-C headphones it's in the cable. Not all DAC's support lossless.
Another thing to be aware of is even if it does support lossless it's not necessarily a great quality DAC.
I still use a Note 9 which has a 3.5mm jack and despite its internal DAC being good quality, I bought an external USB-C to 3.5mm DAC that surprised me, it sounds noticeably clearer.
Basically now days you need to consider both the DAC and the speakers.
I use a HD 650 with a Schiit Modius and Magnius, not balanced. Any audiophile dac supports lossless.@@charmio
@@enzostuff Yes any "audiophile" DAC will (well... AliExpress calls everything "audiophile" grade), but not all DAC's will support lossless.
And quantifying the quality of a DAC is yet another matter all together. Unfortunately it's all rather complicated.
What's lossless
Lossless compression is a form of compression that preserves all of the original data.
@@PhearNoneGearGadgets how does it work? I'm always baffled that it can be compressed yet not really compressed and have a smaller file size
@@photographyguru2135how would he know
You have to plug in and adjust settings in ITunes or whatever sound player you use. Change to losses compression
Real lossless audio is usually an uncompressed file that has no audio losses even outside of your hearing range
These are cheap enough that just this short might get me to try some. I liked the old 3.5mm Earpods, they were the best earbuds I used to use.
