I remember when the games were on 77 WABC radio in the late 80’s and John Sterling coming on to do the post game and his voice was buried in the post game theme music. He comes on and says “Welcome to the New York Yankees post game show....thank you Mr. Orchestra Leader but now it’s my turn. LOL!
It always reminds me of the great Yankees teams of 1976 thru 1978 with the 3 straight AL championships and the back to back World Series wins in 77-78.
Yes! I remember Phil Rizzuto and Bill White on the channel 11 Yankee broadcasts growing up in CT. Whenever someone hit a home run, Phil would say "That ball iiiiisssss GONE!" Classic stuff for a lifetime Yankees fan!!!
This brings back memories of watching Yankee games on WPIX-TV in New Jersey. I remember Phil Rizzuto's opening billboard that mentioned that sponsors and the line "And by the New York Yankees."
TheRetro64 That particular instrumental music of the NY Yankees continues to be featured on Yankees radio broadcasts on "The Fan", Sports Radio 66 WFAN-AM. NewsRadio 88 WCBS-AM no longer broadcast Yankees games.
This New York Yankees Instrumental Theme sure takes me back watching the Yankees games on WPIX-TV Channel 11 in New York City. I remember Phil Rizzuto, Bill White, Frank Messer & Bobby Mercer calling the action. Even Bob Sheppard as the Yankee Stadium PA Announcer & Eddie Layton playing the Yankee Stadium organ. Such wonderful memories!
This always reminds me of the great Yankees teams of 1976 thru 1978 with the 3 straight AL championships and the back to back World Series wins in 77-78.
Love this theme.....I may be wrong but it's the one I remember from the late 70's. When I was in 3rd grade or so (1979) I would try to stay up to watch the Honeymooners at 11pm.. When the Yankees were on id have to stay up later and wait for the game to be over. I listened to bill white and scooter calling the game and instantly became a Yankee fan during some of their worst seasons. But growing up in phillies country I'm very glad I took that rout! This, as well as a ton of the comments brought back some awesome memories!
Holy crap, you are absolutely right! On a side note, do you recall the PIX Games at all? They were interactive games played by a caller who sent in a S.A.S.E., usually played just after school hours I believe. I've been scouring online to find recordings of it but it's like searching for Bigfoot, only more rare.
Some things are iconic in this world. This is one of them. Just listening to it will nearly bring a tear to my eye every time. It's one of the very few things that are right in this world.
Remember when Rizzuto began some broadcasts by saying, "Welcome to NY Yankee Baseball. I'm Bill White..." with White standing next to him dying laughing?
The 3 Stooges, worst announcers ever. I felt sorry for Bill White for putting up with the other 2 jerks. When the Yankees were winning Messer would call them the "Yankees" but when they were losing it was always "New York".
Im listening to this cause my great grandfather just passed away and he loved the yankees his nickname was tuddy and his real name was salvatore vasselarro R.I.P poppa
I’m a Cubs fan, but I grew up in Westchester County (NY) and Fairfield County (CT). We were lucky to have the Mets on WOR channel 9 and the Yankees on WPIX channel 11 back in the 70’s. And it was all free!
I've Been A New York Yankees Fan Since 1978 I Was Five Years Old At That Time. One Of My Favorite New York Yankee Players Was Number 15 Thurman Munson.
🍷 I fondly remember after this theme played at the end of another Yankee win, Phil Rizzuto and Bill White would sign off to WPIX Action News with Joe & Pat Harper (later Pat Harper & Steve Bosch). In the summer, with no school, I'd stay up even later to watch The Odd Couple, The Honeymooners, Star Trek and finally, The Twilight Zone before falling asleep. What a great time! I❤NY.
Remembering my childhood Yankees memories of WPIX 11 New York with Phil (Scooter) Rizzuto, Bill White, Frank Messer. This theme of the 70's New York Yankees was the best! ⚾️
Even though I'm young, I love this when they play it on wfan. It reminds me of my grandpa who just died, he loved watching the Yankees on wpix. He said they played this theme.
In the 80s they had a revamped version of this before games with animated players turning into images on the scoreboard. I’d love to find that version.
Man, the memories of listening to the intro to Yankee games on WPIX in the 1970's while I was growing up in Connecticut. Thanks for the upload. It's always nice to remember something nice from childhood.
Neil D "Roger Clemens is in George's box, and Roger Clemens is coming back. Oh, my good goodness gracious! Of all the dramatic things I've ever seen. Roger Clemens standing right in George Steinbrenner's box announcing he is back. Roger Clemens is a New York Yankee."
even as a kid growing up in the 2010s, hearing this brings me back to hearing this on the radio with my dad on the fan yankees radio network. good times
You can still hear this used for Yankees radio broadcasts. When I hear this song - I can still remember sitting on the living room floor as a kid watching a game on WPIX (in the late 80's). I miss those days! I actually have this theme recorded on VHS from WPIX from the '89 season somewhere. ( I miss those games with "The Scooter" Phil Rizzuto, alongside Bill White)
"...and by Schaefer beer, the one beer to have, when you're having more than one". ..............Good afternoon everybody, I'm Phil Rizzuto, with Bill White and Frank Messer
This is one of the versions they played on WPIX and on 77 WABC radio back in the early to mid 70s. There was another Yankee instrumental before this one (can't find it anywhere) and another one, the one you are thinking about. Went something like.. "The Yankees Are Alive" Women singing. :)
Getting ready and in the mood for the Subway Series! The first meeting of Our beloved Bronx Bombers and The cross town rival Mets at Citi Field in Flushing! Both teams are on point this year! Let's go Yankees 2022!⚾️😄
@stuckonthepike Ahahaah!! I called you Bill!! I just realized it was Bill White! Really, thanks for keeping my Yankee memories alive. YANKEES ARE #1 ALWAYS! The Murcer, White, Munson, Pinella years were my favorite!
As a Yankee fan originating when they were in second to last place in the very early 70's, when they demolished the stadium and built the current stadium to serve filet mignon instead of just hot dogs I lost some of the passion. There was something special whenever a player stepped into the same batters box,or close to it, that Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe Dimaggio, Mickey Mantle, Reggie Jackson, Don Mattingly,Derek Jeter among many other greats took their stance.
This sure brings back the memories. We didn't have WPIX and so we listened to the games on WKRT radio in Cortland. The broadcasts always started with Phil Rizuto saying "This is New York Yankee Baseball" and then the theme song started.
"Well, you know what happens every time a Yankee hits a home run. Hey, (player's name) this Bud's for you!" Remember when they used to exclaim those words when a Yankee homered?
When I posted on UA-cam two years ago, I said to you. All day, Every day, we never closed; didn't I tell you that.. You do recall it. Right? Okay.. I must tell you that this 1972-73 instrumental version of this theme song used to be on WPIX-TV Channel 11, back in the '70s (besides from the very best 1966 theme song).. the best theme song I had ever heard before in my entire life. (From the time I was a newborn baby in 1977 towards my toddler kid.).. By 1981, that new theme (new recycling version, if I remembered it well) ....( Don't forget 1982-87 version) ..it went downhill and went into the toilet bowl (no offense 😡😠😭). So judging between the two. I must say that the 1966 and 1972/73 New York Yankee theme song (s) is by far the best music 🎶 song I had ever heard. . . thanks again for allowing me to make the case. As Phil Rizzuto (the money 💰 store guy) says..... Hhhooollllyyyy ccooowwww! Thanks 👍 😊 for playing⚾🎆🇺🇸🍟🍔🥤
They still play this in the background when announcing the sponsors on the radio station in Hartford that broadcasts the games. Of course, we know all about theme songs up here.
You's can't leave out frank messer man!!! I'm trying ta find this who remembers inda early 80's that yankee commercial... Those yankees are alive!!! Loved that stuff man!!! Anybody that members it trow it in man!! Be good!! Yeah my bombers!!!

@soundwavs1961c The name of the theme is Here Comes The Yankee's by the Sid Bass Orchestra, the original 1967 recording can be found here at the TVPMM Vault.
@IceManNJD - Actually, this recording (by Sid Bass' orchestra) was from 1967. That was the year this recording (and the vocal version thereof) was issued as a single on Columbia Records (#4-44083). This was the recording heard at the beginning and end of every Yankee telecast through 1981 or so, with either of the "Voices of 11 Alive," Bill Biery or Ralph Lowenstein, mentioning who the game's "participating advertisers" were.
Would you believe that was off the top of my head? Well, believe it -- it's true. Brings me back to the memory that lingers in my mind of throwing my TV out the window, through the screen, after a late inning grand slam loss to the Tigers. Anyway, "Bill" was a reference to when Rizzuto finished reading that disclaimer and said, "Bill..." turning to Bill White to take over the play by play! Reminds me of those hot summer afternoons in the late 70's growing up in the Bronx watching the Yankees on WPIX 11....GREAT Memories!!!!

They still play this song at the beginning and ending of Yankee radio broadcasts on WCBS 880.

WFAN did this song dirty this season. They edited it out of their radio broadcast.
They don’t let the whole song play out.

I Agree They Should Start Using It Again.
