  • Samara is a large city in Russia, located in the Middle Volga region and is the administrative center of the Samara region. The city has a rich history and significant economic, cultural and transport significance.
The official date of the foundation of Samara is 1586, when by decree of Tsar Feodor Ivanovich a fortress was built to protect the southern borders of Russia from nomads. Initially, the fortress was called Samara Town and was located on the site of the modern city center. In 1688, the fortress was renamed into a city, which became an important trade and military outpost.
In the 20th century, in 1935, the city was renamed Kuibyshev in honor of the Soviet statesman Valerian Kuibyshev. This name remained until 1991, after which the city returned to its historical name.
