Obviously you all know nothing about runway walking, the pendulums were a test of balance and stamina, maintaining the same pace and timing it perfectly so that you can walk through both without a painful crossing and still model at the end of the catwalk.
Unless they're physicians they can't do it every time flawlessly, they have to account for how long it'll take to reach the pendulum at perfect motion and account for the loss of energy and they also have to keep track of time to make sure the pendulum wouldn't hit them
