The Running Channel Pan, oil warm. Ads popping corn 🌽 Lid. Wait, slowly circle pan. Let corn pop. Circle pan. Wait till popping stopped. Empty into bowl, add Himalayan Pink Rock Salt 🧂 mix. Fresh pop corn with good rock salt done.
My advice is your first few 5k's, don't take them too serious. Have fun and talk with people beside you. These can be great events with friendly people.
1: Check the weather forecast 2: Check the Running Route 3: Carb load, (eat more carbs) 4: Get a good night sleep 5: Warm up before the run 6: Relax 7: Prepare your running kit the day before
Lovely as always!! I like to do lots of stretching and foam rolling. It keeps my muscles loose without taxing them too much. I will also do aerobic activities that will not put too much strain on my legs such as swimming and bike riding. Lastly I will do a ride through of the course if I can and scope out any parking issues or travel arrangements that need to be handled. That is usually easy for me to do because I usually race close to home. Always good to be prepared.
@@runningchannel it went so so well!! I was the youngest runner in the top 10 with a time of 22:44 for my first 5k EVER. This video really calmed my brain when I was overthinking thank you!
I have only been running for a year. I JUST found your channel this morning trying to get a machine 5k. It’s Global Hug A Runner Day. Lol. Thank you for all the insights and I’m kicking myself for not having found this channel sooner. But not too hard because, you know, treadmill.
Pre-race breakfast: take a whole wheat hotdog bun and put unsweetened peanut butter and jelly in it. Then put a banana in it. Top with a little chocolate. I like to have a greek yoghurt and apple sauce on the side.
I walked lots day before! I visited Houston n of course i met up with family and friends... big mistake ..... i learned the hard way 😁 never again and I learned from this experience. Im running Houston 26.2 again next year .. I embraced the mistakes i made to be better prepared for it 2nd time .... thanks
I got some Plastic Run Clips for the race number just push together and doesn’t damage you’re clothing. Lots of different ones and you can even get custom ones.
I have my first 10k race in four days. haven't actually been running that much due to an injured ankle but did other kind of workouts. I actually only ran one full 10k during my training. so hoping for the best, especially some extra adrenaline and peer pressure that will pull me through. I just don't want to arrive last
@@dudee499 I survived ;) it was one of the hottest days but I never stopped and ran the whole thing through and almost made it in under 1 hour Was definitely not last :)
Alarm clock, alarm clock, alarm clock! A bad nights sleep followed by sleeping in because you are tired and forgot to set the alarm clock(s) is a disaster.
Sooo, I'm about to do something newer for race day. I switched out my 10mm drop shoes for 0 drop shoes 1 month prior to my half marathon. I have 50-60 miles on them. They feel ok. But my longest run on them was 8 miles, not 13.1. Hoping, my calves hold up.
asked my neighbor (ironman veteran) what his night befor raceday looks like. His answer: 1a.m. a plate of spaghetti, 3a.m. a plate of spaghetti, 5a.m. last plate of spaghetti and one or two hours of sleep... xD
i'm training for a 5K. just on my lunch ran around the block where i live which is about1.5k took me 12 mins. i know running indoors is so much more different than outside. but i keep coughing. is that due to atmosphere outside? i feel great but i walked on incline so walked about 5 times. trying to minimise walking. any advice?
Run slow to build up then incorporate a speed workout or two once you are in shape. The coughing could be a number of things, if it’s cold the air is hard on your lungs or your just not used to running like that or you ran too hard. I’m a long distance runner who doesn’t smoke or anything and I’ve coughed a lot after a hard 800m race or sprints or I’m the cold like I said
I did my 1st 5 k run yesterday, m so happy woo hoo
Obviously in the week leading upto a race you'd watch all episodes of "The Running Channel" 😁👍
With 🍿
GREAT suggestion Paul! 🙌
That counts as carb loading, right?

Exactly what I’m doing now 😂

First 5K is in two days. Been training for this for 6 months and just got to the 3 mile distance. So excited!
After 9 months of waiting and training...my first 5k is next week! I’m not sure if I’m excited or freaking out 😂
Excited!!! Enjoy it! You’ve done the hard work getting ready for it 🙌
3 year check-in. How did it go?
I'm running on the 23rd of Feb Half Marathon! Thanks for the tips! 💪👌💝🔥
All the best!
So my friend who does ironmans put it to me this way..."the day before a race, act like you have the flu" haha its never failed me :)
Sorry for being a dumb arse but what does that mean? Just do nothing all day and eat loads? Genuine question mate 👍
@@TheBaldyheed i believe lol
I take my rest day two days before and get a light session in the day before. Seems to work best for me because I'm recovered but not lethargic

Even for Half Marathon, carbo loading is taken way out of hand. Very cool tips! Great channel as well. Down to earth.
Thanks Kenley!
Yeah I bet it is. I run 28km on only water No carb loading at all.

What's your experience with magnets instead of pins for your BIB? I tried them once and was surprised how easy it was.
I dread the head winds on race day.

Oh, as far as scouting out the course, you should have probably done this months in advance to train accordingly.
Absolutely. We just mean to go and have a look where the start line is etc once it has been built in race week
