Eddie Van Halen Remembered Jared James Nichols 1986 Kramer Stryper

- Опубліковано 6 жов 2020
- This is one of five Kramer Stryper hand made by Eddie Van Halen at the Kramer factory in N.J., and then used by him on the his 5150 tour in 1986. Hand-painted in red with 'criss-cross' white stripes and the remains of five black marker tape stripes on the body face. This iconic axe weighs just 7.40 lbs. One-piece 12 1/2 inch wide, 1 3/4 inch deep body, contoured on the back and bass lower edge. One-piece maple neck with a mahogany 'skunk stripe', a nut width of just under 1 11/16 inches, a scale length of 26 inches and a very fast thin-medium profile. 'Straight' headstock in matching red with similar white stripes and "Kramer" in black on the wide white stripe and a black tape across the face by the 'G' tuner. Locking nut assembly and single-bar string retainer. Individual Schaller 'rotomatic' tuners with seven sided metal buttons. Maple fretboard with 22 jumbo frets and black dot position markers. Black side dot position markers. Six-bolt neck plate with "Kramer / C5150 / Made in USA". Single Dimarzio Double-Black "Hot" Humbucker 'slanted' in the bridge position with an output of 14.12k. Single volume control with 'Jaguar' style seven sided black plastic control knob. The single potentiometer is stamped "134 822X" (Centralab May/July 1982). Combined Floyd Rose bridge and vibrato unit with six individually adjustable saddles. Complete with the original tremolo arm. As would be expected this guitar has been PLAYED - and has had a professional headstock repair by Kramer (see provenance). The paintwork is worn, the fretboard filthy - the strap buttons have been changed for eyelet screws as usual on Eddie's guitars - this guitar sings 'EVH' at you… Housed in the original Kramer three-latch, rectangular black hardshell case with black leather ends and black plush lining 8.75).
BRING BACK THIS CHANNEL! WE MISS YALL
Man....JJN is such an amazing player.....and think of the money he saves on picks! 🎶🎸👍
the best part is that really plays it, he doesnt just becomes overwhelmed by it. truly a fit tribute to the king. rip evh
This is an old video they republished to take advantage of the hype around his death. This video is repulsive.
man, that guitar looks so iconic...I almost see Eddie's smile shining through his face
As if by magic, another great fingerstyle rocker emerges through the land of guitar demos! 🤘 - Nicely done Jared! A fitting tribute to EVH, RIP 😔
The other one being Andy from PGS right?
The tone he gets without any pick is amazing. R. I. P Eddie he'd have been proud to watch Jared play his guitar this way.
Yeah, but it's not Eddie's screaming harmonics with out the metallic clanging of the pick.
But with that said jjn is one of my favorite guitar hero today for modern guys and gals.
Part of Eddie himself remains in this guitar with his sweat, grease and cigarette marks. That thing is priceless. I've met Jared twice, he's one of the most fantastic rock guitarists and a very cool guy.
Agreed 👍 Met him last year, and he was super polite.
Absolutely right! I met him in Madrid a few years ago before he was known, after he played to a very small crowd in a tiny bar. We had a beer and a chat. I’m so glad he’s reaching a wide audience now, he’s a talented guy with the right attitude 👍
EVH angled the narrow spaced 1961 Gibson 335 PAF in the Frankenstrat because the spacing of the '58 Strat tremolo was wider and by slanting the pickup, the strings traveled over both coils differently with the outer coil polepieces to the left and the inner coil polepieces to the right; that's definitely Innovation ahead of its time... thanks EVH and R.I.P. (Rock In Paradise)!
But Fender Strat had a slanted pickup way before Ed. Did he get the idea from them
@robertdavidtingstrom118 Fender did it for tone's sake. The closer to the bridge a pickup is the more treble sound it'll pick up. In the early days with weak magnets it was necessary in order to not have a tinny sounding 1st pickup. Eddy did it because Gibson humbuckers are wider, therefore the slant was needed for the strings to go over the pole pieces. That's the reason F-Spaced humbuckers exist, to have the proper spacing without the slant route.
It’s almost like the guitar has a life of its own and when anyone picks it up and plugs in....The. Beast comes out ! ....Thank you Mr EVH for the large and beautiful library of music you left us with....🙏🏻🌺🌸
WOW I like this guy, he brought Eddie back for a moment. There is truly some of Eddie in that guitar. Want to sound like Eddie? Buy his guitar!
RIP Eddie!
Great vid!
want to sound like eddie, you 100% dont need this guitar.you just need the chops
Just buy either the 5150 Kramer 84 they made in 04-05 or EVH Guitar or Kramer the 84 and just paint and change the humbucker
The price of that guitar is about to sky rocketed and with the story behind it too damn. Starting to miss Eddie already
This is an old video they republished to take advantage of the hype around his death. This video is repulsive.
His legacy remains FOREVER!! Hail to the one and only king Eddie Van Halen!! Blessings dear friends!!
A Piece of museum! Amazing!
A fitting tribute to THE MAN!! RIP to EVH!!!!🤟👍🙏
So i'm watching this and a few bars in i'm like , "wait, where's his pick???" How can he get that attack playing with his fingers? Impressive...
Dude, same thing happen to me 🤣 mind blowin’
The pick attack is actually what's missing... It's very smooth and biteless
I can say yo jared I commend you for a great show bravo dig that setup gear ect
Cool axe and a great story !
the look on his face says it all. that is the type of excitement edward generated with his music and his life style. the lasting impact edward has had on so many people all over the world is truly amazing ;O)
I gotta ask because I see this pretty often now: when did we start calling him Edward? Did he ever even go by Edward? It just kinda comes off as being kinda pretentious as if you know the guy more than other people and get to call him Edward instead of the name that he actually went by. And I mean no ill will and I'm not trying to be mean with this comment, just curious.
@@STSGuitar16 it’s his name. He preferred Edward from the beginning. The general public tended to call him Eddie.
Fantastic EVH guitar! Great job jj.play in peace EVH
RIP Eddie Van Halen
cool ...its in great hands
Really great review by Jared. That guitar is dripping with Character.
Great demo. Your vocals reminded me of James Dewar, bassist & vocalist for early Robin Trower. Keep On Rocking!!!!!!
Early Trower is the best, Dewar on the Live Trower is the best, great call. Very soulful singer as Jared is.
Hold up why tf is there people criticizing him or his playing hes paying tribute to eddie smh
It's the second time this week this old vid has been uploaded. I think fretted america needs a refret. RIP EDDIE VAN HALEN!
Because UA-cam comments is where losers with no life and low self-esteem go to tear down people in a futile attempt to make themselves feel superior and attempt to reduce their sense of worthlessness.
@@StratMatt777 ur not wrong
@@StratMatt777 You make too much sense for the youtube comments area.
And you forgot to end your statement with, "From their parent's basement."
@@ronnie_5150 :) Funny, I was honestly thinking about including "from their parent's basement" when I typed that but was too lazy!
Love the guitar
Great Tribute, man!!
Hey FA team thank you for making the comments available
so cool
Weird al does vh 😂👍 love your work
actually love that you made it sound like u! nothing like eddie at all!!! but thats whats kool
Wow...beautiful sound. I like your finger picking style. Nice playing!!!
Good Style of playing
Someone wanna get this guy a pick please?
Thats insane.
oh what a tight sound without any compession pedal
Didn't I see this video already a few years ago
Yes. This is a re-upload.
This is an old video they republished to take advantage of the hype around his death. This video is repulsive.
I agree, very repulsive. This guy in the video isn't even good. But the guitar is sweet.
I was at Kramer September of 87’ till July 88’ then back again in 89’ part time. Back 1/2 of the building was Spector is where I was. Yes Eddie’s guitar had a slanted pickup. Kramer was notorious for using Dimarzio but for sure the original guitar had an old PAF from a Gibson and for sure Seymour Duncan madd him a couple pickups but I’m not 100% sure which models only somewhat sure so won’t comment since I don’t know Eddie himself.
Only two springs on the Floyd Rose, that's interesting.
less tension when using the whammy...ive always thought that floyd rose trems were too stiff
Just depends on how much tension you like or need. Can run 1 or 5 as long as the baseplate sits level and the trem zero-points.
He's running 9's at the biggest...you can't run 13's with 2 springs...😬
He was a genius in the making and innovation of guitars and amps and effects...not to mention his musical ability.
@@arisl2370 I have felt the same way.
Played on one at the US Festival
This dude is effing amazing at playing guitar, but handing him one of Eddie's guitars and saying "play like Eddie" when this guy's style is *nothing* like Eddie's is odd.
I agree! The distortion, phase, delay is just not there as well.
Agree. He’s an amazing player. Doesn’t mimic Eddie well. Phil X is really really close.
I had a very similar impression!😅😊
I think that's the point he's making. He's his own style and player. It's not meant to be disrespectful.
RIP.EDDIE VAN HALEN. 5150.🙏🙏🙏🤘🤘🙏🙏🤘🤘🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
This is an old video done when Phil X was off touring, I believe. No disrespect to Jared but I’d love to see Phil get this guitar in his hands and see what happens. Can somebody please make that happen?
That would be cool. Or Satchel.
Sounds great but more compressed in tone than I recall.
sounds great..but proof true tone is in the hands
Why the reupload? The other video is still up as well, from 3 years ago.
Bc Eddie died so FA is trying to capitalize on clicks and views.
A Total scum bag did this
Superrocknrolly👍😁🎸🌱!
Where’s Phil?
Dear Jared,
I've been coming from acoustic finger picking to electric guitar years ago.
I'm using a pick to play certain riffs, but i don't feel allwright with it. It easealy turn and escape ^^
In fact i love playing bare fingers.
At the opposite of acoustic i can't use a thumbpick on electric guitar.
So i wonder how you can stress your nails that much to play rock'n'roll so good !?
Espacially your thumb nail that you seem to be able to use like a pick, alternatively up strike and down strike !
Have you got somme protection, special treatment or any trick or advice to have nails as hard as yours, to play the electric guitar ?
Many thanks for your videos, being followed from France.
Hi mate, I'm not Jared, but I think he's mainly using the flesh of his thumb rather than his thumb and/or finger nails. The reason he can stress his thumb and fingers and play with such intensity is probably because the skin on his strumming hand has hardened and is able to resist such force against the string, just like how the skin on his fretting hand (finger tips) has toughened by playing a lot. Hope this helps.
@@vanhalen1776 thanks. That's what it appears to be on the video.
use a pick or sound soft and undefined
@@trillrifaxegrindor4411 Sorry, i grew up with Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins, Marcel Dadi and some other "woody good pickers".
i'm used to use my fingers !
Anyway, since i went to the electric, i'm able to use a pick to riff on EVH.
But i'll never be good at that... because of the pick.
And maybe my attempt to play other kind of guitars, other kinds of music was too late.
But... would be curious about how is *_your_* tone, when picking Jerry Reed's tunes with a pick ?
Hey man, do you remember that 1962 epiphone Crestwood custom that you did a video on 11 years ago, if so can you reply, because there is actually some history of that in my family and id love to see where it is now and maybe buy it back from whoever you sold it to
Where are the pinch harmonics?
Interestengly how the sound start in the fingers, this guy play amazing, but the sound is tinny, eddie sound was like a atomic bomb
Even with Eddie’s guitar and equipment, nobody else sounds like Eddie.
Get it boi bad to the bone 🍖
U play so great, U should put Eddie's guitar in a glass case on display in ur studio. When I get my amp set up, going to buy the Frankenstrat kit.🤟🤟RIP ELVH 😭😭🙏🙏
What song did he sang? So cool
You Really Got Me by Van Halen
@@skeletorwins5567 no, I mean the song that starts at 6:20
Guess who's not washing his hands for awhile!
anyone have footage of Eddie using this in '91 on the F.U.C.K. tour? I'm having trouble picturing that
There's something weird in the tone chain. Sounds like a tone knob turned down or it's on the neck pickup...despite the fact neither of those exist on that guitar. That guitar shouldn't sound like that. Nichols is a beast tho. Love his playing and faces.
Yoo.. Where is everybody? Where's Phil?
😪
i know...fuckin stupid right?
forgot the pick ?? Kkkkkk, very good without pick .
Very cool but donate it he was the best
Maybe a different OD?
It's a significant, and excellent instrument but honestly, as good as this guy is in his own idiom, PhilX would have been the better choice here.
Im starting to laugh on his picking style, but was blown by his voice
Dude is playing these riffs without a pick using thumb and fingers...amazing
@@vaiisgod8 yeah i forgot who is he, then its too late i commented already...
Great player but doesn't get Eddie's aggressive sound.
not even close
no pick. Jared uses his thumb, no matter how aggressive the guitar or amp, using your hand like that will always get a fatter sound
@@justinguitarcia its different exactly ...no hard rock/metal style player plays with fingers...fingers lend itself naturally foe fatter more feel thicker sound! agreed!
If this is really one of Ed's touring guitars that He used Than You shouldn't even be playing it! insane!
Lou mason.
Is this your dumb side of the brain firing?
You shouldn't use it.
Sounds like you have some male groupies there Jared James Nichols that like to watch you stroke EVH's used guitar lol grime, nicotine, jizz and all. I'm just sayn Me personally would only play it once in a great while if that. I'm a DB metal/rock drummer ~ and knew all of Alex's patterns from the first 2 albums at 14 yrs old in 1980 and if I had one of His kits, i might be on YT for clicks playing them or they would be untouched since He was My favorite drummer.
idiot.
Thanks for the tribute to EVH. Something looks off with this guitar. It seems as though the black stripes should go all the way through/across the body instead of having the white section all the way around the middle of the guitar. It doesn't have I hooks. Also, it doesn't have a mini pick guard. But maybe it's still accurate, what do I know. But what I do know is that we are now going to start seeing a lot more so called actual Eddie Van Halen played and owned guitars than ever existed.
It's a Kramer, and the paint rubbed off
This is not a tribute. This is an old video they republished to take advantage of the hype around his death. This video is repulsive.
Needs reverb.
Funny Guy
Reupload
If you are thinking about buying one, you should maybe check out Dillon
Mills Custom Guitars! I bought 3 Frankies, his are identical to Eddies,
even more than the 300 replica's that cost 35,000. Dillions looks spot
on. Dillion ages the neck and
fret board making it look old...Go Check it man! Put that name in the
youtube search and scroll through to the Frankie and you can see how he
does it.
I love watching that channel, how much did you pay?
Ed was right when he said it’s all in the fingers no disrespect to this guy tho
That terrible distortion doesn't do the guitar justice
Cool. If, what Jared had to say about the Kramer was legit. But, it is not. By no fault of Jared, much of what he was told about that guitar is not true.
What's the true story with it?
Man I miss Phil x.... just saying
Phil has his own channel now.
@@M81_WOODLAND ya I know.., but his reviews on vintage guitars are always rock’n .....
@@M81_WOODLAND A new one or his 13 year old one? XD

Don’t sing James, just play...
Too soon...👍🏻🎸🏁
It’s actually a video they made three years ago.
@@sloebone7399 what song did he sang?
🥴
lol
Too much blind hatred in the comment
No. He just sucks, plain and simple.
I just hate hearing it called a "Stryper" guitar, reminds of that shitty band from the 80s.
Didn't make it past 2 minutes. Sorry, fact check please
You should have given it to me to do a video, then I’ll show you how to play it like Eddie Van Halen through my rig🥴
It's not hard to sound better than this guy. His tone, technique, and feel kind of sucks.
You do not sound anything like him
That’s because he’s not Ed, he’s his own player.
Technique is in the hands, not tone. Of course you sound like yourself. You’re not suddenly going to inherit their feel and theory knowledge. Only you know that. 🤦♂️
Sorry he's good and all but this ain't it
Way to remember Eddie, by trying to showcase your own music, in a video, thumbnailed, as remembering Eddy. Too soon brahh, too soon.
Respectfully, Jared - you pick up a guitar that's worth over $100k, you *take off the guitar damaging denim & brass button ensconced vest*.
I know the guitar is imperfect. But it's only the one player whose nicks, dings, dents and scratches anybody wants on it.
Sorry Jared but your not the guy for this. That said you are for sure an innovative awesome player
No feel or emotion at all
Dafuq??
unbearable clown!
Absolutely.
Everything was way cool until you started playing n singing
Lol this guy is always trying to copy other players. Smh
Yeah he's the Xerox man so bad.
Scott Ram Not just in this video.
Yawn
Couldve gotten a better tone ...
Super tacky. 👎
Says the dude who uploads video games.
The story of Zeke and Edward putting this guitar together is completely wrong.
I was wondering the same thing!
