I have seen millions of videos of music (Guitars) in the internet. I always come back to this one. Those guys are so happy.. Luke style is amazing..both are great! It makes me loop station after watching this guys..👌😉
Luke is one of the handful of the greatest of all time. I loved his sound in the '80's; it was the bench mark. His famous solos on other people's hits as well as Toto (especially "I'll be Over You") are just timeless and majestic. The sound on this video? Well, I could never guess if it was a real 1959 Les Paul or a new Music Man. None the less, Luke can do no wrong in my book - he's too special.
How cool is that?! This cat just drops in- cold, jacks in and rips thru the most intense & inspired jazz blues rock fusion workout you could imagine! They're both rocking, but SL is from another planet!
James Russo I don't think it matters whether he plays a '59 Les Paul, an '80's Valley-Arts 'Strat' or a Music-Man Luke... he'll still sound the same. And sadly, so will we... :-)
Les Paul was a true genius inventing such a versatile instrument; jazz, rock, blues, funk and more. It must be amazing to have a real 59 one. I have played two 59s in London and they did sound amazing. I am not THE Steve Morse just someone who plays his signature Music Man model.
I think that he's a coolest personality to own a real 1959 les paul. Gibson should consider making a collectors choice of this one. They can so easily call it the Steve Lukathar 'Bad Boy ' burst 1959 les paul and it's gonna by far be the coolest one out there just because it's his and because he's so cool. Will be my favourite along with the DutchBurst :-)
Sorry for my bad english. Gibson Make a super quality edition of de 59 Les Paul called Gibson R9, its a replica of that guitar but its incredible expensive
Am i the only who did not know that he even had a '59 till i saw this vid?!?! Where does he play it? And can u imagine actually owning a real one yourself :P
God that "Paul" sounds so amazing! The strat sounds like a "hello kitty" guitar in comparison ! 59 was the year of the les paul👍🏼✌🏼️Luke is such a great player, actually the other dude is also but I do not know who it is?
Lukather playing guitar is a great guitar player. Lukather playing a classic Gibson Les Paul is a guitar playing Great! Every Guitar Great has an Iconic playing moment. Lukather's is his lead solo on "Hold The Line". And that was with a Les Paul. It is such a great shame his collaboration with Ibanez didn't work out. His original vision for what eventually became the Ibanez RS1010SL must have been some special guitar. Pity it never panned out. And a pity he never went back to Gibson.
Memory lane moment. The 'Rosanna Burst' LP is the Tone Genesis of Luke's Valley Arts and Ernie Ball guitars. Very cool hearing him reconnect with the old girlfriend...
I remember the first time I ever heard Luke I had been wood shedding for months, playing 8 to 10 hours a day and felt great about my playing. Then I heard the spine tingling fret board swagger of the Rosanna solo and felt the hot air rushing out of my rapidly deflating ego like an errant party balloon frantically blathering around the room in a flatulent death spiral. I kid, but I'm sure I'm not the only guitarist who although inspired and amazed by the righteousness of that seminal sound still felt that sickly sinking feeling! Anyway that's what it's all about - to keep getting better you need cats to come along and kick your ass all over the place just to force you to "defend" yourself. Get better or get gone!
Lukather the classic sound of acoustical properties of a instrument that is 50 years aged the vol and tone controls are the best they got it right in 1957-1961, they should have made more, the market was jazz players that Gibson made these for except they did not favor them maybe the custom les paul aka The Fretless Wonder and the Custom L-5, the one Wes Montgomery played with one neck p.u. C.E.S
Keep in mind that the glue and nitro finish used on this Les Paul all have glass like effect to make it one and make it vibrate and sing No plastic glue and paint that kills the vibrations , tone and feel ))
It really does matter on the player, your hands, soul and mind :) nod how you use those tone/volume knobs :) ive heard people pick up a gibson and sound like shit, then blame the guitar :) pricey guitars will not make you a great player. A great player will get the best out of any guitar and the les paul in this video is just helping with bringing out guitar soul :)
***** I totally agree. Mind>Soul>Hands... it's about inspiration finding its way through to benefit all of us. Sadly it doesn't work the other way though... :-( You can own expensive guitars and perfectly set-up; but unless it's your muse or you've done the ground-work, you may as well be playing any lump of wood. God bless...
Why haven't Gibson released a 'Collectors Choice' version of this '59 ? I think it would be up there in terms of popularity with the Peter Green/Gary Moore guitar and Bernie Marsden's 'Beast'. I'd buy one... I think... [gulp]
Both of these guys play very well. They also have great tone and musical vocabulary. Little wonder they are both famous. Reminds me of robben ford and Larry Carlton playing together. Very nice indeed.
Luke can pick up any guitars and make them sound great, but no one can pick up a strat and make it sound's like a 59 les Paul or make 59 les Paul sounds like a strat. Just enjoy it
+Neuroguitarist Not in this video. Everyone's ears change over decades. Even Eric Johnson! Listen to Luke's work and sound from the '80's - he was the bench mark. Listen to his solo in "I'll Be Over You". Majestic and incredibly moving.
buriossyu672 this is Luke's 59 les paul burst that he's had since 1979, which he bought at the time for a grand. It's been on every record he's recorded on at least once, It's the guitar he used for things like rosanna, etc.
Penga lol... Lukather says it sings on it's own. He's so humble and talented. I agree with you... fingers, experience.... tone can come from the player. Truly. It's so evident the nuance displayed here.
Penga I agree. That's why it's a shame that a major talent like Steve Lukather plays on "the holy grail" and depends on all sorts of effects while the other guy (don't even know who he is) plays bone-dry clean.
Penga I guess it depends on how you define 'major' also. He's been on over 600 albums spanning almost 40 years, not mentioning his collaborations with many of the biggest names it the business. He's no Steve Vai, granted, but he is important when it comes to his writing influence in music. Most people just don't realize his playing is in so many places.
There's a strange thing that happens when your jamming, especially with any kind of volume, concentrating on the chord changes and phrasing - you don't hear when the guitar is out of tune. Any other time it would drive you absolutely nuts, but your brain is so busy it can't process that on top of everything else. Unless you're Greg Koch:)
Luke is one of the very best of the planet earth.

Steve's 59's sound is my favorite. It growls with mega tone.
Now this is how guitarists have their conversations!

Might wanna finish your sentence with "no homo". Just sayin.
He's so damn good.
How cool is that?!

It's not the guitar kids, it's ur fingers, ur dedication and ur consistency ... Any guitar will sound like a million dollars after that... Any guitar!
One of the best tones ever to come from a Les Paul

Love me some Lukather!
Very well done! Love it! Two Great players laying it down!!! It would be great to have a hole CD or DVD on them playing stuff like that...
2 fine musicians. A pleasure to see what they created on the spot.
I love how Luke can play a Les Paul and still sound just like himself. Its really all in the hands!
hahazha - you are so right.
James Russo I don't think it matters whether he plays a '59 Les Paul, an '80's Valley-Arts 'Strat' or a Music-Man Luke... he'll still sound the same. And sadly, so will we... :-)
Peter Marshall true story!
James Russo The Les Paul is totally unrecognizable.
“Himself” is the ‘59 Les Paul. His most famous recordings were done on it.
love the clean sound of the strat
it is like theme music for some commercial and it won't stop..and I don't want it to either ..this is glorious!!.
The first time someone said “shred”,
They were in the presence of Mr. Lukather’s blurry fingers.
i can see why michael casswell rates lukather he has a easy but refined style that makes you wanna blaze a fat one lay back and listen.
That short passage at 4:11 cracked me up. Great post!
Didn't know professor Michio Kaku can play guitar. Genius all round.
hilarious!!
😁
now imagine it if they were in tune
+abnzg If only your ears were!
+Kevin Kraft the rythym sounds a little bit flat. to the untrained ear, this will sound in tune.
I'm sure you can't be as stupid as you just indicated? Really?
+Guitar Man pretty sure abnzg is the guy who got a dick through his ears on Scary Movie, that's why he said that.
that's why drugs are so dangerous, you can loose you ear!!!

I know that, I own a '59 R9 that you speak off.
What i am talking about here is the Collector's Choice series. Read up on it.
If you own one of that you will know that is one of the finest guitar of the brand its ridiculus make the same guitar again with another name
If that is what your saying; then all the different custom shop '59 models are the same..
Am i the only who did not know that he even had a '59 till i saw this vid?!?!
Where does he play it?
And can u imagine actually owning a real one yourself :P
Music flow from his hands just like water does from a tap, i'm so jealous
Amazing.
This is so good!
That guys' reaction to the shred at 0:58 is hilarious.

Love the album he did with the Tubes

HEY YOU I JUST FOUND THE SAME VIDEO WITH 1080 PIXELS SO INCREDIBLE SOUND

Bebop lick at 3:37!
In 5 min. These two just out played 95% of all other guitar players
Both of these guys play very well. They also have great tone and musical vocabulary. Little wonder they are both famous. Reminds me of robben ford and Larry Carlton playing together. Very nice indeed.
Saw Luk and Carlton together in NYC. Wow!

Pretty sure he is playing that Les Paul on the 1982 live version of Hold The Line.
Did Les Pauls even exist then?
@@chasify642 Yes. There was a world before you ... back when LP's roamed the earth.
@@whynottalklikeapirat Ah, I had heard something saying Les Pauls had first been created in 1969, guess it was false.
@@chasify642 Nonsense. The rise of LP's heralded the demise of the dinosaurs. Something to do with brown notes.
Is this from 1st season Trailer Park Boys?
With 9 gauge strings on that '59.
Do you really think, in his hands this `59 LP sounds much better than a Luke III with passive humbuckers ? :-)
+Neuroguitarist
Not in this video. Everyone's ears change over decades. Even Eric Johnson! Listen to Luke's work and sound from the '80's - he was the bench mark. Listen to his solo in "I'll Be Over You". Majestic and incredibly moving.
Not better, but completely different.
It's a different vibe. Immediately when he picked it up and started playing, the old Luke sprang to life.
@@totalcontrastyep! I’ve noticed similar when Clapton picks up a Paul. Shades of the old days come out!
Who's the guy with the hat ? The picture's a little grainy , I can't tell but Steve said he played on his album.
He is a Japanese guitarist Hisato Takenaka. and known as the artist name Char. Toto played on his album called USJ.
I used to live here in the 70s. Ha
Who's the other guy ( whose album Luke played on?)
he is char.
char is one of the most famous guitar player in japan.
Lukather played guitar on his album in1981.

The Lukather sound requires a Les Paul. Even Lukather isn't Lukather when he is playing something else.
Luke use the force
why don't I have this guitar?! (the Les Paul....)
oh! Nice sound!!
Is this real les paul???

There’s nothing like that Wasp in a jam jar effect to highlight the superb sound of a 59 Les Paul.................. hmmmm
did he say slash?
Some one knows the pickups that steve was using in his les paul
Anyone knows the tabs?
he sounds better on a gibson
There's a reason the '59 is considered the holy grail.
@daniel laurence Yet he sounds better on a Gibson. Same old fingers.
so...who is that guy?
What song are the playing ???
Pretty sure they're just jammin', making it up on the fly ^_^
***** Stairway to Heaven.
+George Lucas LOL!

les paul 59 in japan, set by japanese, end up sounds like yamaha sg but not even better.
