This is living, how every moment has meaning. All of use watching are wasting away. Thank you so much Shoestring for letting use join you on your amazing adventures.
I love the irony when he was talking about trying to hide when, what should happen...his phone starts playing reveille in the back ground! LoL! You cannot write this stuff. :-)
Hey Shoestring! I really enjoy just listening to you talking over these kinds of “waiting for the train” videos! It’s a great little format! Godspeed, you old hobo.
I know exactly where your at. Im the guy standing next to the orange cone lol. Been watching your videos for a long time and have enjoyed them all. No worries your location is safe with me :)
Hey Shoestring, I've been binge watching your videos and really enjoying them. Speaking of the ICRR, my Dad was a conductor for them. He started out as a brakeman and worked his way up. He retired in 1992 and worked for them for over 40 years. He worked out of Baton Rouge yard down by the river and I still live in B.R. off of Choctaw Drive. He loved his job and was good at it and his nickname was Boomer. Every now and then he would tell us stories of the Hobos he got to know and would help them out from time to time. He passed away in 1992. Kinda helps me see what my Dad saw on his travels. I'm a gal, so maybe it's unusual for me to be interested in stuff like this, but I find it soothing to see you going through areas I would otherwise never see from any other aspect. Watching your videos helps me understand the love of the rails, be it a RR employee or a Hobo person loving the thrill of the ride. Stay safe out there!
Howdy Mr. Shoestring! I thought Robert E. Lee and the boy's were coming when your phone went off earlier! Good video as always. The railroads should pay you to do track inspections since you are able to find all their problems. Be safe coming back home. It's is still wet down here in the mountains.
Holy cow, I’ve been working up that way for quite a while and when I could see the yard from the overpass I’d think , “ wonder if Shoestring is down there somewhere...Nah”. Come to find out you very well may have been. I always scan that yard for the man with the beard and Service hat. Safe travels.
every video you have made has been very enjoyable I dont care if its riding, story time, waiting, walking the yard, they are all as good as gold to me. safe travels.
Heck yeah! Love seeing a new Shoestring video in my Subscriptions. Hope you're doing well Mark and still had a ton of fun in Britt. Stay safe and happy!
Getting back on track, glad to see you more out and about again man. This has been a good couple weeks in a long time tbh, and you helped make it that way. Always looking forward to your adventures wherever it may be.
Although we've never met, i feel i know you through these videos. May a proviential hedge of protection be placed over you! ~ Just An Old US Marine
Wow Shoestring! What a great video! Linda and I loved it! The key to a good YT video is to give a little piece of yourself and you give a lot! So much fun.
Holy Coolness, good to see in your perfect environment... as I sit and watch and listen by my own hobo camp fire on the patio, almost the same, burn some sage to a smoke... helps your minds solitude, and keeps the skitters away.
Your videos give me the true sense of time lapse within 30mins. You can get bored to death waiting 2+ days for a train to stop & then there's the adrenaline rush once it happens. The mosquitoes keep you entertained during the wait. Drinking garlic water is a good insect repellent, but it repels people too when you're in public.
As always....just EXCELLENT, Shoe. Really enjoy your very informative commentary. Like the hat ! I used to live in N. Orleans...spent time in Baton Rouge. Holy crap Mark, you're in my stomping grounds!! I grew up about 30 miles south of Effingham down in Flora, where the now abandoned CSX Illinois Subdivison is. Spent many nights as kid getting groceries at the Walmart Supercenter there. I was born in 92 so I remember the ICG days and Effingham used to have a Transportation Festival we went to every year. We moved to Greenville OH in 2004, about 10 miles south of the CSX Indianapolis Subdivision and 20 miles west of the Toledo line. I learned several years back that the line in Effingham connects to the line by me, and that any UP trains I see over here originate from Salem, IL, 15 miles from where I grew up. What a small world. Glad you're back riding again!
Lived in Champaign-Urbana back in the early 1970s and yes, the mosquitoes were bad then, too. I remember the Hobo "Jungle" at Urbana on the east west lines. Thanks for the posting.

5:46 I don't think I've ever heard Shoestring say why tanker cars have a bend in the middle. It's to drain the tank. Tracks rarely have a grade steeper than the bend in the tank. This makes it possible to drain the car on most tracks. It creates a void at the top of each end of the tank. This gives liquid a place to expend into if temperatures change. It lowers the total height of the car for low tunnels and bridges. Maybe there are other reasons, but this is what I found.

Hey Shoestring. Great video, thanks! What are u gonna do about that track problem u found? That could eventually cause a very serious and costly accident? Like a derailment!
Love it! Thanks for a #Decatur shoutout! This is so awesome you’re in IL and so close to me in Decatur! Would love to meet you, shake your hand and take a selfie with a legend! Stay safe out there!

Shoestring, what You do is Absolutely Incredible!!!
Get one of those Tennis Racquet looking bug zappers, might be fun zapping while waiting for trains
I may not be a hobo but I have lived 100 yards from a track for over 20 years and I heard that way before you did in the video. Have a good one Shoestring.
Another great video Hobo Shoestring, man that is a big gondola, never seen one that big before. Nope that's not a fartcar...😋
You were not too far from my neck of the wood. Fort Wayne, IN. That rail near the end of your video is pretty bad. They better identify it quick. Take care. Thanks for sharing.
Made me nervous when you was in the dark and that train come flying through. That loose track can't be good either. Thanks for taking us along
I learn something with every video you make! Thanks!
Enjoyed your video , waiting on the second part. Be safe be safe
Glad to know you were in my area of Baton Rouge. Me and my cousin use to hop trains in that area to visit his God mother round trip lol. Uncle Shoestring you'll have to show us how it's really done.
