Hey I was wondering how it is now? I am considering getting the Residential Starlink plan and I mostly play Call of Duty pretty competitively. My current speed is 50mbs and I average maybe 30 in terms of latency. Would Starlink be worse? My region is NA-East if that helps
@@gilbertgarcia2711ehhh if you wanna play competitive latency is more important than download speed. Latency is the connection between your device and the server download and upload speed aren’t a big factor when playing. Most games don’t need a fast download or upload to play but need a lower latency to make the game enjoyable.
The problem I deal with with Spectrum (as the 8th technician just left my house over the past 3 months), is that Spectrum runs so good during the mornings and around lunch. When I get off work around 5:00, it becomes an unplayable packet burst mess. Latency under load (download and upload) is complete TRASH.
spectrum has a bad habit of overselling their available bandwidth. When I had them I found that every time they ran ads offering 'yet better speeds' their overall speeds would get slower due to the number of people on a single node. So at peak use times you are going to have crappy internet... and if you complain they will tell you its because of the number of people active... like its the users fault... no its theirs for overselling and/or under supporting their network.
In forced to have Spectrum where I live but I’ve noticed that my Latency is always high and for no reason and my down and up are great! I tried getting into the router to fix the settings but of course I’m not able to access it 😑
No s*** sherlock. How many people do you think get online after work? Literally everyone in your town that's how many people. Your internet service provider is a shady scumbag company who is selling service that they cannot provide because they are greedy
@Insense. Router settings are never going to affect your ping for Speed. That is all on your internet service provider who is letting too many customers get on their Network and they are running out of bandwidth during peak hours when everyone gets home from work and wants to play games online

The sales pitch is that the DSL provides stability solutions while Starlink provides faster Download and supplemental upload speeds. Again, this question is for the folks living in rural America where just basic DSL is low speeds and running over old phone lines.
Speedify is good for a better connection reliability, however it will add a significant amount of latency. I use it for my storm chasing live streams here where latency is not as important as speed and uptime.

This is a lot better than I have now 80ms ping on the low end in the middle of the night. Don’t even play multiplayer because it’s so frustrating. Just ordered starlink just waiting for the hardware to come in!
Just a comment on the situation. If you are not playing competitve FPS it shouldn't be an issue. So if you are just wanting to play WoW, Madden, or GTA online you will be fine.
@@HennyMan38 Fallout would be fine. Really the main issue you may have is with competitive first person shooters. In that sphere latency is king. Fallout is not as latency dependant for being competitive. Basically any game that is not multiplayer centric (like fallout). Shouldn't be any issue.

I have got to find out if it would be worth the money because if my wife starts a video on her tablet my lag goes through the roof. HELP HELP HELP!!!
2.5mbps is plenty for wow. I used to play back in 2006 with 1mbps. The graphics rendering is done by your GPU on your PC. The only stuff that's done via the Internet is updating player locations and actions. Which doesn't use a ton, but the faster the better. You can even stream 1080p content with 2.5mbps. but not on many devices.

Forget competitive FPS, I want to know about coop games like an MMO, Warframe, Helldivers, space marine. These games don't have the same critical tolerances as FPS. Is doing a WoW raid a degraded experience? What about something like a helldivers or warframe mission? For PvP FPS, the answer is no and we already knew that. PvP FPS you want a direct line, you don't even want to use wifi for PvP FPS, nor a wireless mouse, so why would you use Satellite for PvP FPS?
Starlink will never compete with that at the price they are selling it for in my country. Maybe if they dropped the price from €50/month to €15/month. But even then the price/gb keeps dropping for mobile nerwork and our copper cable network just gives beter speeds and lower latency for cheaper then starlink. The G nework has a coverage of 99% here. Hey I was wondering how it is now?
I am considering getting the Residential Starlink plan and I mostly play Call of Duty pretty competitively.
My current speed is 50mbs and I average maybe 30 in terms of latency.
Would Starlink be worse?
My region is NA-East if that helps
I don’t know bro that is already really good internet. I’m getting it soon I’ll let you know
Is this a troll post? if not then no starlink will never be able to beat 30ms. in no world will it get lower than that. 30ms is really good.
@@77Fmydogcorrect but averaging 30ms while also averaging 150 to 300 mbs makes a difference no?
@@kenshinhimura9387 moved to a house ATT offered fiber and it’s a world of difference. No more spectrum, no more problems!

What about using a service like Speedify to bond Starlink and DSL? Has anyone tried gaming with that setup? The sales pitch is that the DSL provides stability solutions while Starlink provides faster Download and supplemental upload speeds. Again, this question is for the folks living in rural America where just basic DSL is low speeds and running over old phone lines.
Speedify is good for a better connection reliability, however it will add a significant amount of latency.
I use it for my storm chasing live streams here where latency is not as important as speed and uptime.
I have dsl, 20 down and 1 up, will starlink be a better choice for me or should I stick to dsl?

well, since you have to connect a specific server and that information will have to travel back to you it will definitely have a higher latency, the question is, what latency compared to a node base internet.
I have cellular Wi-Fi through a company my ping is 115-130 do you think I should switch to starlink
depends on how much you are willink to pay
Personally I'd wait a year or two from now starship will be running and they will have more satellites deployed
You have to find out what makes that latency. It can be your ISP and it can be the game servers are far away. Try traceroute
No. They are both trash. A ping of 100 or higher is completely unplayable for online games.

Like if you play online games such as World of Warcraft or other similar games you will not notice much if any difference to terrestrial internet. So if you are just wanting to play WoW, Madden, or GTA online you will be fine.
Oh and if you are playing Call of Duty turn off streaming textures on Starlink.
That's literally not true unless you just have terrible reactions times and don't notice the massive ping spikes.

@@HennyMan38 Fallout would be fine. Really the main issue you may have is with competitive first person shooters. In that sphere latency is king. Fallout is not as latency dependant for being competitive. Basically any game that is not multiplayer centric (like fallout). Shouldn't be any issue.

Okay, so here’s my issue with starlink and all fixed wireless connections… so recently I moved into a rural area of my city in Texas, I moved into a house with my fiance, I lived in the inner city and had fiber optic connection with 1gbs speeds for 85$ in total monthly, I come out here and these internet prices are INSANE! And the speeds are wayyyyyy slower…. I think personally that these companies are charging way to much for the performance of the speeds they are offering, and on top of that, the speeds are NOT consistent. So what would you recommend I do now that we are fully moved into this house and all we can get is fixed wireless connections without breaking the bank?

The only stuff that's done via the Internet is updating player locations and actions. Which doesn't use a ton, but the faster the better. You can even stream 1080p content with 2.5mbps. but not on many devices.

So maybe he can get some money now if he drops the price a lot over here. But in the future competing against fiber (there is finaly a fiber revolution going on over here) and G network at a 99% covarage is going to be hard.
