What if Chains Actually Worked in Minecraft?

- Minecraft chains were introduced in Minecraft 1.16: The nether update - However in my opinion they are not quite complete... because Minecraft chains currently can't do what chains are made to do, PULL STUFF! Thankfully Gnembon (Member of the scicraft server and creator of the Minecraft carpet Mod) has introduced Minecraft chainstone into the 1.16.3 Carpet mod. It makes chains work like slimeblocks and honey blocks, but without things sticking to the sides. This is definitely one of the features I would like to see in Minecraft 1.17!

Then how will he retract 3 blocks using a double piston extender?
He would have to build a triple piston extender for that and we can all agree that what he has done looks much cooler than the simple triple piston extender.

The idea is to be able to pull the gate all the way up to the top and create a bigger opening.
The thing is, while I see opening the gate being easy enough as long as you have some immovable blocks, closing it would be more difficult with how I'm imagining it since you'd need a triple or quadruple piston extender with really specific timing to make it work with the layout I'm imagining

I think this is a fantastic idea! Watching this, I had 4 ideas:
1) I think that if a block touching chain is moved, the chain should moved too -- for the purposes of the chain, any block is like a slime block. I wouldn't be opposed to it only working along the axis of movement too, but most importantly, I think it'd be insanely awesome if you could run a chain to a row of blocks, and then run _other chains_ from those blocks out.
1.b) The number of blocks that you can affect in this way should be higher than for slime blocks and honey blocks. I think the chain blocks should be counted separately, too, so that, say, you can move up to 10 regular blocks at once, and you can use up to 20 pieces of chain in the process. Yes, this means that the impact can go potentially multiple chunks away in a single tick, but I think it's worth it for the feature.
2) I think that it should be possible to walk through a chain -- _but_ if multiple chains are adjacent, then the space _between_ the chains (from one chain to another) is impassable. This would mean that a single chain from one place to another didn't impede anything, while at the same time a design like the portcullis would have the chains themselves acting as part of the door.
3) I think there should be a block similar to a dispenser that can both place and retract chain. It could accept two different redstone inputs from different directions, say, or perhaps adjust its behaviour based on the strength of the redstone signal. Imagine if all these fancy designs with multiple piston extenders could be done with just a single block -- pulse it 5 times, and it pushes out 5 blocks' worth of chain.
4) A variant on chain crafted with redstone could allow a redstone signal to be carried in any direction. I think it should also have slower signal drop-off too. This would once and for all solve the problem of running wires up and down tall contraptions.
I would love to see all of these builds integrated into the castle that you are now excited to build.

OMG! they should SO add that to vanilla Minecraft. I loved the castle door, I wish that was possible in vanilla minecraft. think of the cool stuff like the door! Love the chains coming down from the celing.
Mumbo: "Are chains even medieval?"
Chainmail Armour: "Am I a joke to you"
Everyone: "yes"
We finally have a possible crafting recipe for chain armour
@@wood1188 wait really?? I didn't know that the chains had any use. I need to test this when I get home. I hope you're not lying

Love your videos Mumbo!
I want to issue a challenge to you, @Mumbo Jumbo... Make a restone contraption using regular pistons instead of sticky pistons.
I think it can be done, and I think you could do it easily. A tiny hint to help might be to use blocks that are affected by gravity, like gravel and sand, and Observer blocks. Only rule? Make the coolest or most complex REPEATING redstone contraption (can't be a one-use-only situation, but can be a refillable e.g. dispenser based) using regular non-stick pistons. I saw the video you did on no-piston redstone doors, and I want to see some cool innovation like that again! Imagine you just simply can't find a swamp biome for slime ;)
Mumbo: did they have chains in medieval times
Chainmail armour: am i joke to you
Yes, chainmail armour is a joke. Its useless lmao

when your vault door is more expensive than the items it contains
you could use slimeblocks to make a chain motor of sorts, a piston on either side of a chain with a slime block on top, one of them is powered. Power one, and while it's pushing, unpower the other, repeat until the full length of chain has been pushed or the push limit is reached. Potentially possible to do it in reverse too.
"I have my fingers so crossed, that they're basically parallel with one another, facing in opposite directions. They're very broken." I died.
Me too!
RIP. You will be remembered...
But how are they parallel if they are facing different directions?
