Good talk but a few things I think we need to consider. 1. There are factors like maternity leave and unwillingness to work long hours away from family in women that men don’t have even if the applicants are the same. This might correlate with a preference for male employees. 2. 14% differential in pay for the same job is not due to some inherent prejudice, there are many factors that go into salaries jobs like willingness to travel etc. that it’s not accurate to blame it on sexism. 3. The fact that there are few female Fortune 500 CEOs in the United States is not due to lack of opportunity. Before second wave feminism it’s fair to say that there was less opportunity but since affirmative action and the sixties the majority of collegiate students in the US are female. As a Baha’i, I think feminism should be focused on uplifting women in other countries like the Middle East where they are still seen as men’s property. Not in the United States where they have all the fundamental rights men have. Modern feminism is centralized around sexuality and trans issues which is why I don’t consider myself a feminist. (I agree with the principles of first and second wave feminism though.) That said I think we must uplift females around the world and that naturally through time, women will be seen as equals to men.

@@thekma3476 I don't understand what you are getting at. The idea of gender is both socially constructed and is a feature of our material existence. The issue of equality among men and women cannot be adequately addressed by the demand that women give up their womanhood. On the contrary - such a demand would only reinforce the present order of things. The goal of the Bahá'í Faith is full equality, not that some half of society be given a choice between a necessarily limited expression of their own character or to be treated approximately like men.
I think what she is missing is that man and woman are different, when seeking for equality you should not sacrifice choice and our value as our own gender, don't try to force women into something they don't even want, statistically women are less likely to take dangerous jobs and STEM careers which is effecting that pay gap she is mentioning, but that is only by choice, and I don't think there is anything wrong with people doing what they want even though they are paid less, I am a software developer and I've been in many different companies and the majority of developers are always men, guess what? we all had different salaries all the time even doing the same job and in the same position, where is the gender issue there? in reality salaries should not be based on gender but in competence and qualifications, now the barbie and the GI Joe example is based on femininity and masculinity, I grew up watching those cartoons and playing with those toys and I am not a soldier, again it's just choice, if she is against those stereotypes why is she wearing a dress, earrings and using make up and not wearing a suit or just dress pants and a shirt?
i get her points but she still was picking sides of feminine and masculine, such as love and caring is a feminine thing. Everyone has it and she should not have said men need to be more feminine but instead more tender or a better word for lack of. There was a bit of biased points in there still.
You already have Male nurses you already have Male hair stylists for women you already have Male carers she isn't actually saying anything we already have love just because you haven't found love😂🤣😂🤣😂
I wonder if this lady still does these kind of talks, as a card carrying member of the Bahai Faith, yet down the line patronizing modern feminist talking points post scamdemic in a world of ridiculous LGBTQ cajoling and coercion.
Very bad talk, presenter assumes that lack of women at high level positions is bad and that it results from gender roles. Women are different and nothing hold them back, they just have different interests.. thumbs down
Hi, in order for the world to improve in SEX relations (male and female) it would first off need to recognize what the real issue is for those of the female sex which I assure you is not pay. If you haven't noticed we live in a society and ultimately a world that appears to be against women and our culture is very "female-hating" which I could give quite a few examples of. The sooner people recognize that then the sooner things should change for the better and homegirl, please enhance your speaking skills before making anymore speeches 😆
Great talk, Justine! Many great insights, well organized and articulated.
So many great points and very well said!
needed this ... perfect speech ...

Is there a version of these videos with subtitles in Spanish or at least English?

Every man thinks that he is the nicest guy in the world. Remember that, friend.
Very impressive.

I'm confused, what issues are women facing if gender is a social construct?
It being a social construct and it being a basic feature of material reality are not exclusive positions.

Couldn't you just say you're not a woman and solve your issue?
