2020: Plays Gnossienne No. 1
I hope we don't have to wait 8 years for the next Satie piece!
I am always confused about these two pieces...
Hear hear, thinking the exact same thing!

@Charles-Valentin Alkan ye
I was expecting the best version of Gnossienne for guitar on youtube...
I was not dissapointed. I don´t think people realize how hard this piece is, in fact to play it slow and carefully paced is something most guitarrists (and even pianists with the exception of Joao Santos) neglect. Brandon found the perfect balance between intensity, technique and finese and that is truly appreciated.
Alessio Nanni did a flawless job in piano, for me is the best interpretation in piano
@@antomustaine that is very nice but I think it's too fast and loud, it's not very haunting
This seems like a very heart felt rendition ua-cam.com/video/5bIeYqpn0Gk/v-deo.html
It's a bitch of a piece for sure. I couldn't make any sense of it when I tried reading through it. However, Satie intended it as a dance. This version is much too slow to be a dance. I played it back at 1.25x, and that was a tad too fast in some spots, but overall I think that's the tempo it should be played at.
@@acidset i dont agree with you, Leeuw version is boring
@@antomustaine The beauty of that Gnossienne is that it can be played in so many different moods. I share the love for the piano version linked by AcidSeth. It is very emotional (although the ad in the middle of it is quite a punch to the stomach). A mystic flute version for the mix of this discussion: ua-cam.com/video/mV9jqz3SeRM/v-deo.html
Yes yes yes. Finally someone on this website giving Satie the unconditional love he deserves. I really love your repertoire Brandon.
Have you listened to his interpretation of Gymnopedie? These 2 videos are stunning, i think im in love with this guy
@@ArseAllowance Of Course. It's goddamn brilliant. And the Final fantasy hair is a bit of a looker too.
Agreed!
I wonder tho if this piece can be arranged to have more sustain. Sustain is to the guitar what cowbell is to rock, at least when it comes to classical pieces transcribed to guitar. This Guy soaked it in reverb. And that kinda Works. But it misses that fullness.
@@konteee There is also too much compression on this track killing the dynamics which is so important for this piece IMO.
When Brandon was a young Guitar apprentice in 1888, and this song came to him in his snug Vienna home he couldn't help but learn it to impress all the young maiden.
Not only maiden, I bet there were some lads who couldn't resist him
is that he is Narcissus 😅
I once heard this from someone who was playing it with his guitar in the streets of athens, in a pedestrian road without the noise of cars... It was the last time I felt peace... Thank you 💛
A horrifically beautiful piece. It feels like having my blood sucked out by a vampire, who happens to be incredibly skilled at classical guitar
@@joycesanders4898 Didn't you just describe Brandon Acker?
Magnífico
My gods this was... hot.
He does kind of look like Lestat...
This is a tremendous comment.
When i heard this piece for the first time i imagined someone lamenting, explaining his sorrows, and then hopelessly crying in the most intense parts. It's one of the most vivid feelings i had from a piece of music in all my life. I've heard many variations on this piece, some played very fast, some played with too many instruments, and they may sound beautiful, but they all fail to convey that feeling. The amazing beauty of this piece lies in its simplicity. This is a piece for one instrument, played slowly and carefully, like you did in this beautiful performance. Bravo
guala guala
Absolutely, finally someone played this song with a pure and powerful emotion
it's like life in general. The base is steady and consistant, while the melody is caotic in some episodes and then releases tension to fall down in desesperation and caos. Just as the rollercoaster of life, the balance between good and bad. Thats why i like this one, and Brandon did an excelent job interpretating that too.
I shared a comment in another performance of this piece similar to what you are saying here. I recommend you listen to that performance as well.
ua-cam.com/video/ZkFoPGRM4t4/v-deo.html
My comment was like this.
"For me this music evokes an emotion that I cannot define. Not happy, not sad, not fear, not anger, not desolate. Some eerie type of formless emotion that is neither positive or negative that I don't want to stop listening. An emotion from another dimension that lurks deep inside the gray universe inside my skull."
Listening to this is like walking through a beautiful foggy garden at Dusk, with flowers and trees swaying serenely in a gentle breeze.
For me wearing long beautiful robe walking palatial halls opening one mystery door after another discovering answers with each door opened
@@pilarq7886 Yeah, I can totally see that. It's beautiful
For some reason, I keep forgetting to check out more of Satie's stuff despite me liking everything I've ever heard of his. Thanks for reminding me :P
He reminded you, but did you check ?
@@mathieug5120 Yes I did. I was surprised to find that most of his pieces are really short, so it will add up to 300 tracks to my instrumental music playlist once I integrate all of it.
Same
Check out Scriabin as well. Those 2 are my absolutely favourite classical pianists
Absolutely lost myself for a few minutes. This performance was hauntingly beautiful!
Me too
The performance ??!!
There are no real words to describe how excellent this is. I have listened to this version countless times. It is so haunting, yet so delicate. I've done some of my best Linux infrastructure engineering work while listing to this. Hats off to you, Brandon. A true masterpiece.
i sat here for 1 hour watching this on repeat
what a masterpiece
For years I have been trying to somehow find the perfect classical guitar piece, I always had an idea in my mind of what that sounded like. I don't know how to describe what I was looking for, but it was like searching for a portrayal of an emotion that I didn't know, and still don't know how to express. This was it. It made me tear up. It's just gorgeous, and exactly what I was looking for even though I had no idea what it is I wanted to hear. This just ticked the boxes for some reason. Amazing.
I don’t know what this piece was written about but it’s the first time a piece of music has spoken to me on this level. It’s like someone’s pondering why something happened with sorrow and then suddenly expressing their anger and spite for the situation that has transpired. Great stuff, I aim to be good at this type of music one day
Thia kind of music decides if its going to let the performer be a conduit
Brandon the world needs your music now more than ever.
I've listened to this haunting piece of music played by quite a number of guitarists, and I don't know how I missed Brandon's. This is far and away *the best* interpretation that I've seen. From my totally subjective and newbie perspective, Brandon has the talent to be among the classical guitar greats.
This song makes me feel like a ribbon in the sky. Falling gracefuly to be carried by sea.
Amazing to hear this piece on guitar. Having such direct and precise control of the strings gives the piece a sense of elegance that is distinct from the original piano arrangement.
So haunting, filled with somber and maximum loneliness. So elegantly played 🖤
Definitely belongs in a movie somewhere i don't know which but the mood slow pace and repetition really makes me feel something.
To the community here, why does Brandon only have 222k subscribers? He is Ling Ling worth like. What we love about him is that he brings all knowledge and profound intimacy with music. He is subtle with delicacy in his playing but with a punch so hard enough to want more.
first version of Satie on a guitar that i thought captured the sad beauty of his work. well done sir.
This arrangement and performance have just the right amount of haunting questioning and also the lilting dynamic power when it is warranted. A very fine interpretation of one of my favourite of Satie's works. Well played, Mr Acker.
I can only echo the numerous comments praising this masterclass, The most enjoyable and precise rendition I've ever listened too.

Perfectly gorgeous piece!
I clicked the reminder on so I wouldn't miss it! I'm glad they have that feature button. I gotta go cook right now .brb ;)
can we just take a second to appreciate how beautiful that guitar is?
the guitar !!!
Clasical guitars are the most beatifull guitars man, and the most beatifull sounding
the guitar is made by saers guitars which is a fairly new brand from China, the specs looks inbelieveable for their price but unfortunately they are difficult to find and try outside China
The comment which mentions a vampire is exactly right. Brandon's performance is a slow dance of lyricism and dread that forces a broader definition of beauty. Only a brilliant musician can show this so convincingly.
This was the first classical piece I ever learned on piano, and is to this day, easily my most favorite. Thanks for this beautiful rendition.
Oh my gosh!! The phrasing gives me chills. An absolutely magical, haunting arrangement . Great job Brandon
Nobodys talking about how damn serious this guy is while playing
The world could be needing and this guys is not stopping until the song is over
Good lord, the dynamics were impeccable. Couldn't have asked for the performance to have been any better. Stunning work.
This is my favorite classical piano piece and you just blew my mind by playing it so cleanly on the guitar 🥰
Rewatching your performances is even better the second and third time around, realizing how gnarly the execution is!
I can't stop watching this. Thank you so much for playing so beautifully. My body is vibrating with awe and joy.
I love hearing you play the classical guitar, so accurate and clean.. it's amazing
Everytime I listen to this i get an unrecognizable sentiment.
I got chills listening to you playing, thank you for this masterpiece.
It’s breathtaking. I can’t even express how beautiful it is. Thank you for perfoming
My high school guitar teacher played this for us live about 3 years ago. So glad to hear it again
One of my all time favourite songs and for so long have secrectly hoped that one day could have the chance to hear it played by the master Brandon himself. Can't describe how happy I'm right now! This is perfection, hauntingly beautiful and mesmerizing. Thank you so much!!!! ❤
That... was the most beautiful thing I have ever heard. The technique, and the emotion you put into it had so much duende! Thank you for this experience! I hope one day, you’ll play Gnossiene No. 4.
I have been playing electrical guitar for several years. I found your youtube channel and went back to my classical guitar to remember and learn new pieces. This was one of them!
You're genius. I love how calm and warm you energy is, and it clearly shows in your clean playing. Huge support!!!
By popular demand, here is my arrangement for purchase in TAB/Score: arpeggiato.com/music-arrangements/

As a piano player, I'm so impressed by these guitar arrangements. They sound so good I kind of want to learn it also lol. You and @guitaremotion make some of the best content like this on YT. Keep it up!
What do the phrases in quotations mean or refer to? are we being guided through the phenomenology of knowledge? I love this piece so much and your arrangement is such a gift. thank you!
Decided to buy the arrangement. Good! It is meticulously and beautifully written and quite fun to play.
For memorizing it pays to identify the repeated sections (first ignoring the master's stage directions): AA BB CC BB aa BB CC Bb. This makes roughly 2/3 of the bars redundant! After memorizing, of course, that redundancy vanishes, step by step.
@@lolitonene He does it in hard, manual labor. Had to wait a couple of days (
Now if you can write up the arrangement for the rest of Saties compositions (:
Wow this was beautiful! Fantastic arrangement and performance, Brandon. You are an inspiration, my friend.
The production is improved so much since last time I was here. The lighting the camera work, does more than justice to the great playing.
this was so incredibly touching, I'm just speechless. thank you so much for sharing this.
Would a lute version of this masterpiece be an attainable request? Say yes, no matter when it's done as long as it comes to life.
He is a master of the amazing theorbo...I wonder how Satie would sound on that.
There's actually a theorbo version on youtube.
It would be absolutely marvelous to have this arrangement in lute or theorbo!!
@@phildts ua-cam.com/video/WOckLC9hOus/v-deo.html
Magisterial. It's the tone for me. Even a mortal like me could play it, but to give it this hauntingly beautiful, tragically ethereal sound... and playing your own arrangement too. Bravissimo, maestro.
Beautiful version Brandon. I love the intensity and the dynamics you give to the piece.
awesome Brandon - just awesome. didn't want it to end
Wow, this just took me to a totally different place, it was a place of peace and beauty. I really do thank you for sharing this beautiful piece. I tip my hat to you yet again sir.
SON: Dad, can you play this?
DAD: Nope, I can't even pronounce the title.
Seriously, how to pronounce the title?
@@joshuajiao685 "gno" is like "know" and you prononce the "g" like the "g" in "gut".
"Ssi" is close to "sea" or the the "cei" of "ceiling"
"Enne" is like the letter "N"

@Anthony Lopez G'No See Enn
You should learn some French, it's not so difficult...
I listened to this looking out the window, the sky was grey, the ground was shiny, and the rain was tapping on every surface so rapidly the noise was akin to a hiss
This is one of my favorite Satie pieces, and I am *so* happy to see you perform it. Thank you for this.
It's bcuz of ur videos I decided to buy a classical guitar and start learning.
Thank u sir ❤
Oh man yesterday i thought "i would really love to listen to Brandon on a Satie's composition"
And now this pops up in my recommended!
I've played this on piano when I was a teen and subsequently satie became one of my all time favourite composers. The emotional depth of this performance is superb. Not an easy piece to play, (the pianissimo towards the end was spot on the shifts to forte also amazing to hear in classical guitar). Thank you.
Wow.
Listen to this piece by piano and it has this still beauty with an introspective character.
The guitar, this arrangement, shifts the mood from Northern Europe to Southern Spain with its East and South Mediterranean cultural influences that could make you want to dance - slowly to the still beauty.
Phenomenal...I’m just learning this piece now and will take Brandon’s version as an example of how it should be played ...
Beautiful arrangement. Really impressive. Almost the tempo of the original too. Kudos!
Man, this channel is so underrated! He deserves millions of subs! Where’d all the peeps go?
To you sir, for the lack of words, thank you very much for sharing your talent with us.
the most beautiful arraignment of Gnossienne ever!
Your work is fantastic, not only the video quality and edition, but the style, passion and technique is out of this world! I would love to see more Tarrega from you or maybe Julia Florida. Bravo!
I like that you slowed the tempo down from the usual piano interpretations. I think that slower tempo suits the guitar perfectly, that separation between the notes works wonderfully, while for the piano, it's easier to blend them together in a sort of melodic mist. There's more tension, purity, and even an oriental feel in that guitar performance than the piano version which is more abstract and moody. Marvelous work, sir.
See... this is the reason I love classical music. You experience brilliant music, then re-discover it as a whole new experience when it's reborn in a brilliant performance like this. Thank you for this Brandon. :)
This is a truly masterful performance. Thanks for uploading this Brandon!
I love all of the gnossiennes, but this is my favourite, it was written on piano, but sounds as if it was indeed written for Guitar, a perfect rendition, thank you.
Very nicely done. Beautiful warm sound, even on the high notes.
One of my favourite pieces. Truly passionately played. Thank you!
Always waiting for any of your video. You are my ideal
You make these pieces sound like they were written for guitar. I immediately forgot what it sounded like on piano.
Been relearning this on piano, hearing it on guitar is amazing! The resonance makes it a little more haunting. Great job!
I love this piece, never thought it would translate so well to guitar
Clair de lune has to be next please
Omg Yes!!!!

One thing I think you're exceptionally good at is dynamics. It really sets you apart from others and shows you're truly a professional, starting to creep up to master level.
Divine! This are the most beautiful soundbites what i ever heard in my life. Thank you so much Brandon!
one of my favourites by Satie - beautifully rendered! Thankyou Brandon!
Woo hoo omgg yess!!!! I love Satie, Chopin, Debussy, every one of your song choices is always great.
It's not a song. It's a piece.
His jaw is so expressive though
You hae a nack for choosing crazy interresting pieces. Your expression on such a simple work is second to none.
Always a pleasure to check out your content. I still remember the first videos i watched when i first discovered your channel (gymnopedie, nocturne, and verano porteño)...thank you for such amazing and beautiful art
Note to self:
Use a constructive open tuning when transcribing a piano piece to guitar.
Great work; thanks for sharing.
Haha what are you talking about? It's the Dyens transcription in standard tuning
edit: only thing he changed is the A minor part to the way most people play it
crazy how wrong you are yet you speak with such confidence that 20 people liked your comment, giving it an even greater air of authority. This is how misinformation spreads, from people posturing for social points.

Ah! Delicious villain music of the early 20th century. This is genius Brandon. Beautifully played.
Such a beautiful arrangement and performance. Your technique is pristine and I loved being able to observe it up close from multiple angles. You play with the grace I aspire to.
This is so incredibly beautiful, I can't stop listening!
So beautiful.. just learned Satie’s Gymnopédie No.1 on the piano. I’d like to think that Satie is pulling on our inspiration strings from the other side. Thank you for this.

Simply a beautiful Satie's piece played gracefully by Brandon- WOW!
This young man could be the next Julian Bream. A name to watch.
That's the moment I've realized Satie's music is perfect for guitar and when it's performed with guitar it also reminds of Francisco Tarrega's pieces.
sublime delicate touch and playing! ty for sharing with us
Yes!!!! So excited for your interpretation of this song!
As a metalhead I will say classical guitar is absolutely amazing
thats because metal is electrified classical music bro.. randy rhoads iron maiden metallica slayer yngwie malmsteen etc.. listen to some bach and paganini solo violin pieces.. on violin, and on classical guitar
Well, this is the granddaddy of metal after all.
U play amazingly, could you give tips on how to get comfortable on the higher frets and make a clean sound? Any stretching?
Satie's work has always seemed like a variation on a theme to me. Very feline and languid. Summer nights with fragrant white flowers and the sound of the Seine. Thank you bringing these qualities to the fore in this wonderful performance, Brandon.
Can't tell what I like more now, your interpretation of Capricho Arabe or this hauntingly beautiful piece. Thank you!
