I curious about Maton guitars, how does a model like Tommy Emmanuels signature model EBG 808TE sound for it's price point compared to Yamaha, Taylor and Martin guitars in the same prince range? Although they're not classical I'm sure you guys are great at rating the sounds of those as well
naming the exact model by sound alone, and then naming another model by SMELL alone.... i didn't think that would even be possible. Marshall is definitely a master of his craft!
Marshall is such an awesome personality and this just showed his true love for his craft beautifully. Brandon, you're pretty awesome too! Such great talents together!
I think I speak for the whole audience when I say that we need more this. Marshall has such a superpower senses that it would be interesting to see more guitars. Maybe throw a curveball into the mix where you play the same guitar twice and simply reset the tuning while "swithing" the guitars.
I came into this video sceptical, but now I'll never know why I underestimated the ears of a professional luthier, and a fantastic one at that! Bravo, Marshall!
i love the fact that you put the name of all the songs that you play even if you repeat them and that helps me remember songs that i would like to learn to play thank you
Absolutely crazy how good he is at this. It really shows the talent behind him making guitars and perfecting them is not just in the general construction but also in the ability to detect and correct even the slightest issue. If you do this again I'd love to see him try this at someone else's shop with guitars he hasn't been hands on with.
Lagrima is one of those pieces that grows with you as a guitarist. It serves you from your first year to your 50th year and only matures more beautifully with your playing with time. As beautiful as Brandon plays this here, it'll be only more complex and rich when he plays it in 30 years.
It really is a wonderful piece of music. I've played it for about 25 years now, and the melody is just so beautiful still. Amazing how emotionally sad the opening movement is in a major key, and then the B section in E minor just weeps tears, Lagrima in English is Teardrop, and that is such a perfect title.
I've never seen Marshall enjoy himself so much lol. I've always respected his talents but it was so much fun watching him have fun and get goofy for once.
AHAHAHA Man Marshall absolutely cracks me up every time he's on screen "You know, not all heroes wear masks but some of us do" chuckling Please keep this collaboration coming this is comedic and entertainment gold!
I'm really enjoying these. We need a season 2 with a "hard mode". Marshall went too easy on Brandon for round 1 by giving him very different styles of guitar, and for round 2, maybe Marshall should be sitting far enough away that he can't smell the guitars. It would be great to have him react to guitars from outside his shop, although there are some obvious logistical issues with that. Perhaps a sponsorship or collaboration with a guitar shop in another town.
As much effort as I put into ear training, it is remarkable to me how fine tuned Marshall's ears are to frequencies. It's really impressive that you hear sound ports!
As someone who knows almost nothing about guitars, this series with you two is AWESOME. I love watching people display their knowledge, and you two both do a great job!
Wow, Marshall is at a legend-level of knowledge. I can't fathom how he knows this much. Also, your playing is wonderful, and you make it look so easy, though it's absolutely not. Nice video!
08:54 Marshall is so wonderfully dry/deadpan that I have absolutely no idea whether he is showing extreme professional knowledge or is being utterly ridiculous. I absolutely love it - his deadpan is absolute gold!
Marshall incredibly skilled and obviously obsessed with these instruments, which isn't a bad thing, not to mention he's pretty funny. Have a great rest of your week to the both of you. :D
I love how amazing it was to see Brandon play perfectly blindfolded in part 1 and now out of nowhere Marshall is somehow even more impressive. both absolute masters of there crafts, bravo!
When Marshall said “it sounds Japanese” I thought the same. Well, I thought sounded like my guitar. I have a 1974 Masaru Matano, years later the model name changed to “Asturias” which what that guitar is. What a fun video and duo. I’m beyond impressed with Marshall’s abilities. 😮
This really is top tier content. You and Marshall complement each other's strengths in a great way, and I would love more videos of you both being good at things!
I literally can't believe Marshall could name the exact guitars blindfolded. I didn't know that was possible. Or tell there was soundports. I will never forget this video
I'm honestly left humbled by his knowledge and passion for what he does. I'm astounded he was able to name the make and model of certain guitars by sound and SMELL alone.
Marshall is so naturally funny I love it. You both seem to have a great time together, makes me smile. Thanks for the videos and that you always write which piece of music I'm listening to :)
Very fun video. Marshall is indeed a true luthier. Amazing how fast he recognises tonewoods and build types. he's got some humor too, I would love to visit his shop one day, but I live in the Netherlands, so not anytime soon I am afraid.
I didnt know much about this guy other than that his dad is the famous luthier. I guess i kinda judged him by thinking he was just doing what his dad does, and that he was just an emplyee. But wow. Hes fantastic. Not only is his talent almost unbeleivable, hes charismatic. I find artists in the classical instrument making community to too often be arrogant and too self serious. Marshall is awsome! Him and brandon make a great team.
I’ll never forget the first time I heard a Brune! My friend and briefly teacher Paul Vondiziano played one that just was so pure and bright! You don’t forget that crystalline tone!
I tried several guitars between 1-2k, but could believe my eyes, ears and fingers when I played a 700€ guitar from Furch. Thin varnish and amazing tone.
I have a few classical guitars. The smell of the guitar is usually very distinctive. The resonance of the body and soundboard is also very distinctive. The fretboard intonation is also very distinctive. The way a song is played on a guitar is also quite distinctive. What amazes me is how he can quickly distinguish the model and the year in just a few bars.
I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this video as much as I did! You two made me smile big today, biggest one of the day 😅 I need friends like you guys, for real!
I can listen to Brandon for hours without being bored, just delicious to the ears... And that Miguel Rodrigues guitar, I could feel it even trough the speakers...
pretty astonishing result, especially when you consider Marshall had to go only by sound (and smell I guess). That's the kind of advertising that tell you that this guy could absolutely tune a top by ear. Probably blindfolded too.
Marshall is such a charismatic guy. I feel like I could learn everything I need to know about building guitars from Marshall, and everything I need to know about the history of guitars from Brandon. Great video!
8:16 Marshall gets a big hint of what the guitar is from listening to Brandon opening the cabinet to his right and he can eliminate all the guitars in the case behind him.
This is great! Love that you did this and thank you for the remark about setup. Absolutely crucial. A bad setup can ruin the experience of any great instrument.
Great video. Completely blown away with each of your talents and expertise. Completely BLOWN AWAY. Thanks for composing and posting, it takes a lot of time, and I appreciate it. ❤
Both guys did such a great job. It's a great demonstration of how relying primarily on monetary value is a pretty unreliable guide. So Many other factors played a deciding role, or swayed the person's preference either way.

Loved doing this! Thanks for coming over and challenging my ears!
You're a beast!!
You are master of your craft !
You should eventually make a second season of blind listening. This is so enjoyable to watch
Boss... and with a sense of humor.
If you ever come to Spain, you have a beer paid, colega ;)
Loved when you took sunglasses with the gangster rap, looked so cool! 😸
naming the exact model by sound alone, and then naming another model by SMELL alone.... i didn't think that would even be possible. Marshall is definitely a master of his craft!
he 100% has superpowers XD
Smell and memory have a very strong connection, I bet he can smell his father's guitars from down the block.
I'm positive that the reason he could identify it by smell is because it was his father's. I doubt he could do that with others.
Its all fiction dude, ffs.

“It sounds American”, “it’s lacking complexity”… what a savage remark 😂
Now let's see Marshall build a guitar blindfolded!
I would agree, but i want him to keep his fingers
Honestly, he probably could
Bro still has to measure and cut.....
Not something easily done.
Nah Brandon build his own guitar
Still be nicer than anything I own lol
Marshall is such an awesome personality and this just showed his true love for his craft beautifully. Brandon, you're pretty awesome too! Such great talents together!
I must say, you two guys compliment each other extremely well. A wealth of entertainment and knowledge between you.
Amazing! So unbelievable how Marshall can name the guitars by the year, maker, model number and the type of wood! Loved the video!
There is bound to be a part of it that's just him knowing what guitars he does have at the shop. Still extremely expensive.
yeh cant be faked this video. 100 percent legit
His sense of humor as well ON TOP OF being able to identify what is being played just from the sound. What a guy.

I nailed every single one! I guessed they were acoustic guitars, and I was 100% right!
close. They were classical guitars.
All six strings
No, you weren't.
He just needs to identify the guitar and remember all the details.
Identifying the guitar is the impressive part.
@@jankowalski6338 classical guitars are a type of acoustic guitar.

Hell yeah Part 2! Loved the first part. It's always great to see Marshall.
In order to fool Marshall, in addition to covering his eyes you need to plug his nose and ears as well
I've never seen Marshall enjoy himself so much lol. I've always respected his talents but it was so much fun watching him have fun and get goofy for once.
It’s very nice to see Brandon just play a G chord sometimes
So caprichio Arabe and Alhambra isn't typical enough?
AHAHAHA Man Marshall absolutely cracks me up every time he's on screen

Nor familiar with each instrument's location on the shelves. Marshall was allowed to listen while Brandon took the guitars from the shelves.

Very impressive job from Marshall being able to hear the differences.
Brandon: "you've nailed this one"
Marshall: "I would never! at the most, I'd glue!"
I don't know a single thing about making or playing guitars. I had no idea they sounded so differently. This was such a fun video to watch.

Nice listening with you guys and what an outstanding collection over there
Marshall's knowledge is immense and your playing is so good. Great video
This is delightful. I love that Marshall called his collection a pantheon

Marshall naming the wood and the sound ports, and the exact model was unreal.

Now next how about comparing strings? How big of a factor strings are? Are they more important than the body in producing the sound?
Okay these are just fun. Marshall's got some absolutely crazy good ears.
