  • 6G TIG roots with MIG fills and caps are common in shop fabrication. We've gone over the TIG roots in several videos, however we have never touched on techniques for the MIG fills and caps. In today's video we are going to show you how to fill and cap a 6" pipe in a single weave pass with GMAW.

Mr Bob... As a full time 50+ hr a week shop fabricator & welder for 9 yrs now (I'm 50...was a licensed plumber for 25 yrs) I just want to thank you for all the great vids! I learn something new on every one!....but... At our shop, we love us the aluminum! That damn ole steel is heavy, dirty, & heavy! Thanks again & keep burning em!

The fill and cap for drain pipe can be run top down from 12 oclock to 3 and 9 oclock. Then from 9 and 3 oclock to 6 oclock position all downhill. High pressure is a different method for sure. Great video! Short arc pipe welding is challenging in any position, but a lot of fun, as well as great learning on out of position.

That right there is one of the best tips I've learned, even with the floor. Instead of having the bead pool up on me, weaving with the floor makes sense. Thanks, enjoyed this very much.

increase half a volt to flatten your bead 15 more wire speed and increase your travel speed. if you drop your wire speed too low you risking not punching in there very well. got to remember this is pipe and you're using .035 wire.
