Thanks for sharing! What a blessing to be able to get jobs done when they need to be done! Enjoy the new ceilings! It is a joy for me as an American to see English gardens. They are different from ours and beautiful. Love to see the mix of flowers and veggies. I am impressed that you actually know the names of the plants. Your home looks like it is well kept and comfortable, a really peaceful place. Durham is such a beautiful place!!! It is more European than I picture England looking, with its narrow roads and stone roads. A treasure. What is it like to walk on land that has been home to centuries of souls??? Enjoy your time home and with Max and Darren and enjoy the cooler weather!
It's awe inspiring.....my favourite part of the cathedral is the small chapel that holds the tomb of St.Bede. amazing it survived all the bombing in WW2, with It's huge size and elevated position.

Thanks Elaine Darren and Max. I enjoyed the tour of Durham. A lot of hard work building those huge cathedral's and castles. No help with machinery. It's unreal the amount of damage water causes to roofs and ceilings. Pleased Darren is enjoying his work. He done very well to go to University in his 40s.No easy to do with family commitments. Durham is somewhere I've never been so that was lovely to see it through your lens. So nice to see you too Darren and I'm so glad you are enjoying your new job. Well we are off tomorrow morning heading for Canterbury for the night and sailing from Dover 8am Monday morning. I'm like a child at Xmas and I'm lying here in bed wide awake when I should be fast asleep 😂😂😂. My fathers paternal side (Boles) has some history in your area (the Dutch DeRoos name comes from my fathers mother’s side). I have been looking into my Boles Scotland/Irish family tree. Sadly, I have found very little past my fathers father…I’ll keep digging…maybe I’m related to the Queen…haha. 😂Thank you for showing us around. I loved your historical narrative. Take care.

I’m confused (not unusual haha) but isn’t Camila Bowles the Queen because she is married to the King now? Her last name was Bowles which is a variation of Boles (my last name). That is the connection I was trying to explain. Sorry, I didn’t explain that connection very well.
I think it's her first husband's name.

Haha!!! Both Darren and I failed to spot Max having a poo when I talking to the camera.....of course someone spotted it and complained I hadn't cleaned it up!!! Well if I'd noticed, then of course I would have, but Darren gets defensive of me and took the video down, incase it became a thing.
All I could think was, 'was what I was saying sooooo boring, they had to complain about a dog' haha!!

I must say Darren looks so happy back in England. He is always smiling. The job is good for him. I am sure you miss him, but it is a much better and less dangerous situation than your man leaving you to go to serve for his country. You just have to do what you have to do. How long do you plan staying in England? Thank you for the day trip. Loved Durham cathedral. Have fun with your family and enjoy the change of scenery. All The Best!
Lovely look around your home and tour of Durham. So kind of you & Darren to let us armchair travel with you. We have a Durham in North Carolina thar's a university town, too. Max smooching mum was the best.
That was indeed a majestic cathedral (and castle). Probably a very good location, high up, when my nasty ancestors attacked😉 Could it be that the Harry Potter franchise was filmed there, at the cathedral? You both look happy despite the weather. Rain and 11℃ here. Summer....nah, not so much. xx

Darren will be working as long he is enjoying it....he's found his thing....he works with vulnerable new parents, safeguarding children 👍

Love Durham! I didnt realise Darren was working full time in the uk. Do you mind me asking how that will affect his residency status? We used to have residency in spain and were never sure what the situation was.
He should really spend more than 6 months of each year in Portugal, but he knows it will lapse as he's working....things just changed and we're making the best of it 😊

Buildings so old. Very cool. I might have missed that episode but thought I'd watched them all. Did you get the roof replaced? I too went to college later. We married very young and had 4 children in 6 years and no extra money. Started college about age 34 but it went on forever because I worked full time and had a family. Took classes as I could timewise and financially. Eventually went from the accounting field which I enjoyed to being a licensed Social Worker which I loved it. Kathleen
Good morning Kathleen, thanks for sharing your story. Darren left school with barely an exam passed and was told nothing of further education. He was clearly intelligent enough to go to uni, but didn't have the confidence. So same as you, he went later, after the children were older and I had encouraged him to try.
