7:42 Although I haven't yet scaled fish with the fish scaler, its ruler was a life saver during a recent trip. There's not a single tool on the Swisschamp that hasn't saved the day a time or two. When I travel, I may pack either a Climber, Tinker or Spartan for edc but the Swisschamp always goes in my suitcase too. Great review my friend and excellent selection!
I am into the SAK-Hobby almost a year and already have a decent collection. I do enjoy your videos a lot, Dan! One of the best SAK-related channels on YT. Keep it up, much appreciated. Greetings from Germany.
Thanks for watching, my friend. Constantly watching eBay has paid off 😅 yeah, it's a bummer about the backspring but the rest of the knife is so solid and has awl those cool vintage features
When i was a kid, those really big SAK were the coolest. But these days, I favor smaller one and two layer knives for actual EDC, because who really needs all those tools all the time. But I can see keeping one of those in a utility drawer or toolbox as a backup just in case.
Who has told you that? Have you contacted Victorinox themselves and asked them, I am quite sure that they will be able to fix your broken spring and you won't lose anything by contacting them via email and ask, remember pictures of the knife especial of the blade stamp and of the broken spring and other sign that can identify when the knife was made.
I'm no hater of larger SAKs, but, at some point, more layers make the multi-tools impractical. The Swiss Champ XXL and Swiss Champ XAVT seem to be more of display pieces than actual functional tools. Sometimes, simpler is better.
Yo kind of a weird suggestion, but you should discuss different ways to carry a SAK. I wear jeans, and mine always rides in my back pocket, vertically next to my wallet. And I usually carry a Hercules when I'm at work. I don't like putting them against keys in front pockets to keep scratching down...
Sweet. I have a modern Swisschamp with the clear magnifying glass, the older Swisschamp with the grey magnifying glass, a Champion and today a Wenger Champ arrived so I'm pretty stoked. I tend to use either a Handyman or another Swisschamp both of which have racing green plus scales. I have been craving a Craftsman. Maybe one day 😁👍🏼
Thanks for watching, Ken! Keep an eye on eBay. And if you need some help I could help keep an eye out. You can email me at swissarmydan@gmail.com Cheers!
I totally agree about fish scaler. I like to fish but would rather use a stand alone scaler. Don't care to clean scales out of a folding knife. :) The Handyman has a nice tool set. Surely I could think of a use for the pliers.
I’ve got a Swisschamp, but currently the max size below that is four layers. I traded a Ranger for a Wenger that still hasn’t showed up months later. ☹️
The Fish Scaler the most unloved tool. The broken back spring on the 40s knife is just too sad, maybe there is a way of fixing.? Thanks Dan for the share.
@@swissarmydan9354Good review! You might consider sending it to Switzerland...they will fix it & perhaps enjoy seeing it & examining the knife to see how it has held up over the years...
Nice video S.A. Dan. I am biased, because I am a former smoker. I know it’s just a logo; I wouldn’t have anything with a cotton-picking Marlboro logo on it. How many years was I enslaved to those damned cigarettes. To put it into perspective : had I not smoked all those years, I could have a SAK collection rivaling yours, no shit! Till, I love the content, keep it coming!
I would say take an alox with another sak that would be celador. So you have your tweezers at least. I currently have a swiss champ and nail clip 582 (since I now live abroad, I basically have a tool box and nail hygiene covered). I am thinking of getting myself the spartan (or similar) and a signature lite in the future to edc them (so I have a medium edc and an easy to use light and pen). I don't feel like buying a massive flashlight that would take too much space and I don't know yet how good are those mini flashlights. I know how good victorinox is at making tools though.
I carry a 4 stack Explorer, and that's as large as I want to CARRY, although I think having something like a Swiss Champ in the desk drawer is perfect. For carrying, once it gets to 4 stacks if you need any more than that you should pair it with another tool rather than just getting a larger SAK. Two benefits are 1) the more implements you cram into a single tool the compromised those implements are to conform to the form factor, and 2) you can distribute how you carry those tools as opposed to figuring out how to carry one huge tool. I pair my Explorer with a Leatherman Sidekick. I use pliers and wire cutters quite a bit, and pliers based multi tools just do that job better than any SAK. The Sidekick also has a saw which I use that isn't on the Explorer. And if I need a locking blade I have as well. It's not that the Explorer is inferior in any way, but it has strengths that the Sidekick doesn't, and vice versa. Amyway, that's a drawn out tangent to say that I think some people obsess over finding one tool to do everthing, when their needs would be better served dividing those functions between 2 tools. Some would argue that that defeats the purpose of a multi tool, which is to eliminate clutter, and while that's true, increasing the number of implements on a tool is counter productive if those implements become less effective.
Thanks for watching! There are many I carry, always have one in the pocket and use it almost daily, there are many that I do not carry especially rare and vintage. Cheers!
Never understood why the Craftsman needs a fish scaler. Seems completely out of place for the name. BTW, the old saw looks like it cuts only on the pull stroke while the newer ones are bidirectional. And you would think the Handyman would have a 3D Philips instead of a corkscrew.

I agree with your comment, the Swiss champ is just a useful gem! I like how the philips screwdriver is positioned on it, way better than on a T angle.
It must have been a really exiting trip if a ruler saved the day! Keep us informed of any future adventures.

One of my favorite 5 layers is the Ranger.
Never knew about the outdoorsman, I like that one
Dan You have the best SAK channel on UA-cam
Wow, what a nice thing to hear! Thanks for watching, my friend!
Great to see all of the larger knives together, still feeling like a handyman might be purchased pretty soon
Great video on your large SAK collection. I absolutely love my Swiss Champ.
A very informative video, thank you.
Awlsome LNF champions right there! You've got some true gems... It's too bad about the broken spring on that scissors layer!
Thanks for watching, my friend. Constantly watching eBay has paid off 😅 yeah, it's a bummer about the backspring but the rest of the knife is so solid and has awl those cool vintage features

I agree completely
Was fortunate enough to snag a used Champion C and Swiss Champ last month. All that after missing out on a Cybertool.
Great vid, Dan, thank you!

I'd like to see a video about carry options also!
Did you say "square Phillips"? I'm not square Dan. Lol...you are awesome Danielson!
The evolution of the boxes is cool too
I love the boxes, especially the old ones ☺ thanks for watching, Anna!
Pretty cool selection. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Nice video Dan ... I have a newer Swiss Champ in walnut and It's a beast lol. Thanks Dan 👍
A walnut champ sounds awesome! Thanks for watching, my friend! Cheers!

That Craftsman with the squared phillips was the first sak I ever had as a kid in the eighties.. hope to one day find another.
Great video!

@@swissarmydan9354 I've seen a couple.. just waiting for the right price/condition combo.. it'll come :)
I like the SwissChamp. If you get it in walnut it's awesome too. Yeah it's big but that offers a better grip, plus a reason to use a sheath.
Nice pieces Dan!
Thanks, bud! Cheers!

Living in the desert, they're excellent for removing Cactus barbs from pups. Thanks for watching! Cheers!
thanks for the tour. i cant go past 4 layers, so, i had to stop at an Explorer.
Honestly, I'm the same way. I just collect the larger ones. I scarcely carry anything more than three layers
I enjoy seeing the rivets
They are pretty neat, huh?☺ thanks for watching!
I love rivets but I see why they moved in the newer direction if u dropped and broke scales before it was a bigger job replacing them
Great vid, my friend. Thank you.
Ranger is my fave
I’ve got a Swisschamp, but currently the max size below that is four layers. I traded a Ranger for a Wenger that still hasn’t showed up months later. ☹️
Another fantastic video 👍
Thanks for your continued support, my friend!
Thanks Dan, great video as usual 👍
Thanks for your support! Cheers!
Great video thanks.
Very nice models , hiper collectibles jajajaja , great video Dan ; yes sir . Likeeeeeee

Very nice collection,
Thank you for returning, my friend! Cheers!
The outdoorsman is the same as the explorer, is it not?
No, the Explorer has 4 layers. The Outdoorsman (6 layers) adds a fish scaler and wood saw.
Great videos love your channel do you use your knives or just collect only
Thanks for watching! There are many I carry, always have one in the pocket and use it almost daily, there are many that I do not carry especially rare and vintage. Cheers!
How much are the new models?

Exactly my thoughts I would of got the handyman already if it had a 3d Phillips
what about the ranger?
Just bought a Ranger it has layer upon layer
Cool
Nice line up!!! And by the way, this video is knife porn!!! 😍😍😍 cheers!!! 👊👊👊
Lol. Thanks for watching, my friend! Hope awl is well!
Cool!! Thanks!!
Danke schön!
When did they change the big belt ring to the little split ring?
Records indicate the split ring was introduced in 1968
All good 👍
Thanks for watching!
