go.soflosports... are many ways to tell the difference between sciatica and piriformis syndrome, but this is one of the many ways and tests you can do it. Sciatica can be caused from a compressed nerve that is located within the spine. Piriformis syndrome is as a result of tension or compression of the sciatic nerve but located at the piriformis muscle. Either way, these symptoms can mimic each other and cause leg or thigh pain. If you are looking to tell the difference between the two keep watching.

Thank you! Just confirmed my injury is piriformis and not sciatica. My doctor even diagnosed me with piriformis.

A little confusion here in your description. Sciatica is a symptom not the cause . Usually one of two things. Disc bulge or piriformis muscle.

hi, a little bit longer, so sorry for that. according to your video i have piriformis syndrome at left. but i have also l4 l5 disc hernitaion at left. i feel buttock, groin pain and rare leg pain. besides i have no pain on my back and buttock with any movement. finally i want to ask that the groin pain can be caused by piriformis? why do i feel pain while i feel pain my buttock? disc herniation or piriformis ? thank you so much doctor. best regards.

Interesting questions. Groin pain can be caused from a hip injury, adductor injury, and I see a lot groin/hip pain with lower back pain when there is a compensation or imbalance. So for you to figure out this issue, you will need to test, re-test specific exercises that can provide relief to your body! When in doubt, I tend to consider the spine as a major factor for pain.

I think I have sciatica, however the pain only happens when I’m standing and slightly bend over. I don’t feel any pain whatsoever when I’m laying down and doing these movements.. what could that mean?
