People seem to think that i didn't attempt clearing the codes to begin with. CLEARING CODES DID NOT FIX THIS CAR LOL!
I did clear the codes after saving my prescan, AT THE BEGINNING, as i explained in 34:45
The title was meant to be a joke!
Mario thanks for sharing. That vehicle looks like an electronic nightmare. Thanks for sharing your diagnostics process. Stay safe and well Artie 👍
Mario! Videos like these are why you are showing you are as skilled as guys like Pine Hollow Diagnostics and Diagnose Dan and Scanner Danner. Always enjoy exploring issues with you taking us along for the ride.
Very well said TJ, everyday is a school day & I really enjoyed this video. Thanks Mario 🙏👍
Great Video as ever. Thank Q.
I like to use Snapshot on my phone for lots of things around the vehicle. Comes in very handy.
Love your videos, you have a great work ethic! Would you recommend the flex box over the ability of doing OE software programming?
Gotta have both these days
I don't think you are rambling at all. I always enjoy and gain from watching your videos. Thanks 👍
One more snort of snot bro. Cuz I missed the last 20.
U scope are junk …they won’t last …
really curious why you are using alldata when you have access to star wiring, I used to yell at my new hire that came from midas, he would always use alldata instead of startekinfo at the dealer. alldata is terrible for european cars. terrible. like, terrible. did I mention it is terrible? :) I normally dont comment on channels, but I been poking through your videos. Hard to find good honest people such as yourself and myself, so keep it up man. Lou
oh p.s also, what may have happened with clearing the codes, is all you may have needed to do was lock the car and unlock it to make the car sleep for a quick second so when you unlocked it , it would recheck the systems. We have seen this more and more where you have to do that, or the issue will remain. in the most randomness of systems.
Startekinfo is highly inaccurate on its own
Out of all my videos, this is literally the only time i had to use factory service info
Alldata is very strong on euro, when you know how to use it
Just my opinion!
Terrible or Terribly Terrible 🤔 ??
Mario Rojas is the best diagnostic technician in my opinion. He works on the very intimidating Euros which in my opinion is a lot more difficult to diagnose than other vehicles. Great work. I’m always learning from you. Always very thorough and detailed with his process. Much love from Toronto, Canada
Dang. So was the little AES scope itself at fault? Or was it a bad connection? The BNC? The wiring? The cables? I own an AES scope and would hate it if the unit itself was faulty....... Thanks, Mario!!!!!!!!!
Usually it's the cable
Hey there. Strangely iam dealing since 2 days with a w204 c300 gas engine v6 .was called in a shop to diagnose as a no crank with all dash errors on. We have the same exact scan result .I mean to the letter. Missing srs - engine computer- electronic shifter fuel pump module and tcm the scan. When i saw the chassis can fault on the central gateway , i looked computer data diagram on prodemand and notice that most of the modules(: ecm tcm electronic shifter was) on can c wich is blue and blue/white wire. Scoped that can c and guess what perfect signal like you saw. Spent next 2hours looking factory diagram ....and c checked power and ground to ecm.ecm 5v ref....and couldnt for the sake justify why ecm wouldnt talk as its a gateway and have more that 1 can network connected to it. .thats when i noticed something very important. CHASSIS CAN IS DIFFERENT FROM CAN C. CHASSIS CAN IS CAN E AND IS GREEN AND GREEN WHITE IN COLOUR. Scoped chassis can and voila can is shorted. Located the chassis can connector on driver floor panel lifted the carpet found a pool with connector submerged in water. When Chassis can is down on these. Can C ( drivetrain) wont operate even though it scopes fine.. i think the front sam needs chassis can to be operational for can C to transfer data.
And the obd connector is wired with canD ( diagnostic can) . And connect to front sam. Wich is the main gateway on this vehicule.all 4 to 5 cans go to front sam.
On a more serious note, I’m learning so much from channels such as this one. Thanks for rambling. Thanks for taking us through this.
Just started this vid, it’s going to be a roller coaster of exciting no doubt! Mercedes diesels are great but when they go wrong my god do they test one’s skills !
Hi thanks for the video recently I got a 2017 GLA 250 in my Shop and the instrument cluster was doing strange stuff like the outside temperature was reading no temperature just 3 bars and a multiple warning light was coming on and off intermittently especially when the car was running for a while I put my scope on the can bus under the driver’s seat on the seat module and when the outside temperature was ok the can bus signal was normal but as soon as the outside temperature gauge was not functioning correctly the bus signal very erratic the same with the warning light I found the interior can bus connection behind the instrument cluster on the left and checked for anything abnormal and all was fine but when I would touch the can bus Connector the signal would sometimes be affected I ordered a new distributor like Mercedes call it and it fix the problem I saw nothing wrong with the old one and since they are high and not sitting under the carpet like a lot of other Mercedes cars it was just defective there are very little in this part a couple of soldered parts not sure what they are but it’s a lesson that these things can failed without any water damage.
My W212 has no steering lock, no emulator and a foam block where steering lock should be. Also, I too learned about clearing codes to reset computer, had a misfire, replaced coil and misfire remained. The computer shut down the fuel injector, once codes were cleared misfire was gone. I too about had a breakdown, as the intake manifold covered the back coils.
Great information!!! Man I can relate to that empty pit at the bottom of the stomach feeling when it doesn't start....it sucks....but you got it so no worries here!!!!
Agree, not something you want to be wrong about.
benz CDI ECU's go into safe mode when the bus system is faulty and turns off communication with the Engine computer till it's been fixed for a certain amount of time i have first-hand experience with this
this is MANNY RATCHET, I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND YOUR SITUATION, THERE IS ALWAYS THAT ONE THAT EATS YOUR BREAKFAST LUNCH AND DINNER, CHIN UP AND KEEP GOING
Are you claiming that uscope only has 6 to 8 months of reliability? I’ve had mine for about 13 months and it just failed. Approx 23:34 mark
No not the uscope itself, just the wiring
YOU LIVE AND YOU LEARN IN THIS FIELD EVERY TIME BEST ON A CAR NOT ON A HUMAN
gateway is part of the front SAM built into it
muy bien bato!!!! en mi proxima vida quiero ser como vos
Its bold to be honest with your videos
Scotty Rojas 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍
👋Sir super nice explanation, blessings
Well done Sir! That feeling of being wrong hurts those of that take this serious a lot more than others. I know guys that just don’t seem to care. I know when I mess up I am way harder on myself than anyone else could be. That’s also why I am always learning.
Wow that escalated quickly…..! Great fix 🤜 Mr Mario you are a legend.
You found the bad module and now it's fixed. Why did the module fail? Was it moisture, pin contact or internal damage?
Internal
I like your approach. Great work.
Is it possible that the old module would have worked just by clearing the codes? Because the initial symptoms with the new one were exactly the same as with the old module before clearing the codes.
As i mentioned, i cleared the codes after saving the prescan
could you please tell me the model of your micsig oscilloscope thanks. or would you choose a different version
ATO1104
thank you. great channel informative
where can i get this software and tools that you use for prigraming ecm?
It's called flex from magic Motorsports
A little stressful on that first crank! Incredible diagnosis!
I feel you😮😮😮
🎶 🎵 👌 🎶 🎵 loved it

28:22 nice one 🤣
I know nothing about diesels and even less about Mercedes, i do know, however, when you really want to F things up just involve a computer, really really mess things up, multiple computers 😳
Was watching Ivan when he mentions you so here I am. He was right so I subscribed. Thanks, and I will be keeping watch.
great video ,great advice , excellent job Mario
i want every customer and service manager to watch the first 15 minutes of this video and listen to what he's explaining, so they could somewhat grasp why we demand more money and there's such a shortage
I wonder how Hanz and Franz decided to put the Engine Control Module in the wheel well. Did they just put all the harnesses together on the car and ended up with the ECM connectors somewhere in the wheel well?! “ Ah let’s put it here Franz. “ What could possibly go wrong?! Heat-check. Vibration-check. Moisture-check. Corrosion-check.
👍👍👍👍
what would have happened if you just cleared the codes? did you put back the old computer to see if it was actually broken? Thanks for the video, I learn a lot every time.
As i stated, right after saving my prescan, i cleared the codes. The original module is no good
@@SuperMarioDiagnostics thanks for clarifying, I missed that.
Cannot believe how many modules showed up on that car wow dang good job man dang good call love videos love to see the mig migic being used that's what I have and that's what I am trying to learn is my
We all get burn sometimes . Recording all the codes and frames and resering codes should be arule #1 on any cars then reputable the test
I love watching your videos. I just learned also with BMW short circuit codes on the Footwell module will also lock out that circuit from working after so many counters permanently thus having to replace the module. I hate to be wrong too is suck kick in the balls. Great work man!
Is it possible to program in new ECU’s on the Mercedes with the Autel……? 🤔🤔🤔
I've done used ones with me9.7. Haven't tried cdi modules. And no it won't do a brand new module, at least the im608 won't. Not unless you pull the coding off the original module. But again i haven't tried a cdi
@@SuperMarioDiagnostics Thank you for the information, what is the me.9.7 ..? I don’t have the im608 I only have mk908p . And again thanks for all your vids they are very inspirational and encouraging to not be afraid to take on some real horrible jobs and get them fixed 🤜🤜🤜
@@billytremoloband7456 that's the gas engine module, very common. I don't think that scanner will do the job though
@@SuperMarioDiagnostics Sounds like a job for my friends star tool if I ever come across a vehicle needing an ecu !
Have you ever had to go any module programming on any JLR stuff (pre ‘17)….?
Oh another handy thing don’t know if you would have use for it but you can use sdd in engineering mode with no log in ….! Just hook up the Autel jbox and away you go! Only caveat Is you need to know the exact spec of the vehicle!
@@billytremoloband7456 yes, i use factory scanner for that
There’s no worse feeling than doing all you can and it doesn’t work.and the joy when it’s something simple to
Yo mario. We all go through these things. Like you know that you are very sure and 💥. You went down a rabbit hole.lol. keep it up bro. Its call experience. Take it as a lesson learned
Thanks for take your time to share this valious information. Thats a great diagnosis. A greeting from Uruguay
I never doubted you! 💪
even the best can make a mistake if you van say it did you see diagnosedan when the scan tool lied to him and he fired the parts cannon with outrageous scan data he should have thought better of. in the end you sussed it that is what counts
i have been there a couple of times. What an ugly feeling. Great vid again Mario.
that was a great video i know that feeling of doing the diag and still being wrong keep the great videos coming if you can
Good job and great thinking. Question. The codes come from and stored in that computer (ECM. BCM ) or what ever. When you change out the computer why did it not clear or there should been no codes on new computer. Thanks
The codes in question are from other modules including the gateway
Scotty solve this by buying a Toyota.
Just wondering if disconnecting the ECU before you carried out any tests would have zoned in on that ECU. I would have thought most of those codes would have dissapeared ? Perhaps you did ? Either way nice job.
Since it's the gateway, disconnecting the ecu made no change
Nice diag bro! Where did you find the Mercedes-Benz factory wiring diagrams???? Eres un genio hermano!
Thanks, It's from the Mercedes site
Hi Mario. If there is a short to ground on one of the CAN network. Can this affect/damage any of the computer on that same CAN network. Nice work you are doing
It usually won't damage anything. It will cause lack of comms to everything in that network. But if it's only one wire, it may go into fault tolerant mode(single wire mode) and still communicate. But since its only one wire, there will be no noise termination, so you'll have some issues with interference or repetitive messages etc. But this will typically not permanently damage a module once the short is removed
Give me a job. I got my own Zeus and all my own tools. I know this stuff and love doing it and want to work with likeminded people that takes on these hard cars. Message me. I'm in Toronto I want to move to Florida.
I am curious about the fact that you already had the ecu backed up from a previous visit. Is this SOP where you work?
It's not, but not a terrible idea lol
Those wiring diagrams look old.. havent seen those on all data before.
I ran into that today too, All Data was listing a relay on one diagram but the other was missing it, both on no oem. Not keeping an eye on their crap,,
Pretty wild journey on this one!
Dusty! How have you been man!
@@VoltageDropDiagnostics I'm doing good, I peek out of my cave every now and then! I'll give you a shout here soon, but I'm always looking out for that next vid from you!
Great video Mario. Thank you.
Believe me, i was sweating too.
Next time we chat Ill bring the beer
Great work Mario
Wait so i may be missing it , so you pretty much just end up having to clear the codes which cleared the short circuit essentially? And the module you replaced didnt need to be replaced? Ive always heard about these safety features that manufacturers implement to protect the car.
Either way im all new to this and you seem like a really smart guy if i where in your city id pay you as my mechanic for sure great job
No lol that was sarcasm. The control module was brain dead
@Super Mario Diagnostics oh ok got you i ended up rematching and caught that part about the module being bad internally
Hi. Normally on Merc with ism there is no electric steering lock
Guess i don't see them often enough 😆
Great.
❤️
Mechatronic Mario! On the bleeding edge man! I’ve never heard of that magic flex box before. How is it different from a j2534 pass through tool?
It's a cloning programmer, one of the best in the market
Got cha. So in the case of a corrupt, or otherwise dead module from which to clone, you would have had to have access to OE software like with a j2534 tool, yes? I know in this particular case, your boss had a replica file for the flex to read and write, but if he didn’t, would that still have been the tool to use, or would you shift to a j-tool? I know you kinda touched on it in the video, but I wasn’t quite clear about what you meant. Sorry to take up your time Mario… not to worry if if the answer is more elaborate than a simple reply will do justice. I’m just curious because in my limited experience with it, programming with a j-tool is generally a pain in the arse! I’m really quite curious about better options on the market.
@@jeremyah78 a jbox won't Finnish the job for a Mercedes. If there was no file available to clone from, a used module could be reset, or otherwise coded to make the factory software to believe that it's a new module, and the module would then be personalized, activated and coded to the vehicle.
I personally haven't tried the Mercedes j2534 software. It may do the job, but i have my doubts. We use sdconnect c4 with xentry
Will be upgrading to the c6 soon
@@SuperMarioDiagnostics Thanks so much for your time, brother! Very helpful information! ✌️
Love your dedication and videos
👍👍👍
Car is not going to start if the computer dont know if the car is in park🤔 One of the sensors in the transmission module is bad .not sending the right code🤓
Might wanna finish the video lol
Hi! If you didn’t have the back up file, could you have copied it from the original ecu? Or you couldn’t copy it from the original ecu because it became defective? And if that’s the case, could that have been a confirmation that the original ecu is defective since you could not copy the files and make a back up with the flex? Thanks!
Couldn't copy from original
So if you couldn’t copy from the original ecu, is that another confirmation that the ecu has to be replaced?
