I would defiantly add to previous comments that I too wish GPS Inc. would simplify their instructions the same way you did. Not having simple instructions from GPS I too wanted to get rid of my device but now can't wait to try it out as soon as our real spring weather arrives in Ontario Canada...hopefully within couple of weeks. I, as a senior citizen (70) would highly encourage other seniors who may be struggling to understand basic steps to watch Harry's video. Well done Harry...!!
Thanks a million, Harry. Just what I needed. Why Garmin doesn't have this sort of basic orientation in their product manuals or website is beyond me. They just assume everyone already knows this entry level stuff and are likely missing sales because of it!
I bought a gps a while back but never used it because the manual was impossible to follow. Basically you had to already know how to use a gps BEFORE reading the manual! This video was very helpful. I can now use my gps at least for basic hiking. Thank you Dirty!
Love this. Easily THE BEST GPS intro video I've seen (and I've been looking at a lot of 'em). In essence, the first of three installments ("GPS For Beginners" episodes #2 & #3 are also excellent) of Step-by-Step Procedures for the Compleat Idiot. After watching these, I no longer want to throw my Garmin GPS out the window, but instead rush outdoors & go hiking with it. Thanks Dirty Harry000!
First video I've seen in a dozen or so, that actually SHOWS me how to get back to my starting point. The main reason I want a GPS! Thank you for a very clear and understandable instruction!
Sir thank you for this video !! I bought a 64st a while back and to be honest I don't know how to use the damn thing !! This video was fantastic (now I am learning something) I would be very grateful for anymore vids on this 64st I want to put all my trails for gold panning on it Thank you very much in advance
Hey mate, i hunt loads and have avoided gps’s as they all seem to be very confusing when you read the manual. Love the video and im now off out to buy one👍 thanks mate👍🇦🇺
Best damn video I have seen! Kept it clear and simple for guys who aren't good with technology. This will be a game changer for hunt season and exploring new areas. Thank you so much,
Garmin is such an awful product. I couldnt understand when the salesmen kept telling me that they buy every competitor and then shut it down. I find my cell phone gps more reliable, easier to use and a much better battery life. dont buy one, save your money
Mate, watching this by an Aussie make one hell of a difference. No crap along the way. Right can I ask you if this particular one have a camera inbuilt or otherwise to it. It makes no real difference as I will connect it with my phone when I get it. And then the questions will come.
Thank u for the information, I really want to learn, will continue to check ur videos, but am trying to get my own GPS so I can become acquainted with it
Great video. Let’s say that I have gps location for an object that was given to me by someone, how do I create a waypoint on the gps and go to find it?
FANTASTIC. SIMPLE 2 EASY. Just bought a Magellan 310 (on sale). Wish I bought a Garmin instead. Looks VERY EASY to use. Not like the 310. BUMMER! Thanks. (Melb. Vic.)
That is a good question? I find them all easy to use, I am currently using the Garmin Rino only because it suits my prospecting! I suggest you check out the Garmin range of handhelds, and find one that suits your intended use.
No you are not stupid! Far from it, some things are a little harder to grasp than others. I bet you will be as proficient as me with a little practice.
Are you able to input a destination like a regular navigation and it’ll take you there? Or do you have to input the coordinates of your destinations prior? Thanks for the clear video
hey, Dirty Harry ! i have a friend here in colorado, whose nickname is "Dirty", lol. many thanks for your excellent video - i could follow & understand it - i took notes. i have the garmin 60 CSx and it confused me with all the settings like navigate by road, by north at top or bottom and on and on . maybe i should put the settings back to the factory default before doing your instructions....
Hi I bought the garmin gpsmap 66st I can use route tracks and that but I can’t get it to follow the track I press to go but still won’t follow my route have I some setting not set up right. I would really your help many thanks Sophie
Great video. Question. Does it show you a marked path back to your to your marked way point for backtracking? Instead of depending on the compass or map arrow.
@@DirtyHarry000 to make matters worse... I am off travelling and metal detecting at the moment.. I held my 64s in my hand before I left home and decided not to take it as I had taken it many times and never had any success, now I'm kicking myself....Sad. Thank you again.
Mate any chance you could give me your opinion on which Topo maps are the best ones to buy for use in Australia? Using for land navigation but I am over in Cairns Queensland. Loved the review and cheers. Luke
@@DirtyHarry000 Thanks heaps mate. And I take it the free maps have not caused any issues for you? Thanks for taking the time to reply to my initial question. I appreciate it. Luke
Hi there great video, I just got me a old one like your GPSmap 60cs. When I go to hook it up to base-camp on the compute. It says can't find it.. Can you help with this as I'm a dummie with this stuff....
Cheers mate for the video. New to these units and Garmin don"t make it easy for beginners. Have you got a video on how to download other maps on the unit? (topo etc). Thanks again.
Does this GPS unit allow to switch between the formats in which the coordinates are presented? Like between UTM and WGS84? So I could see my coordinates in a format as (for example): 40.71280, 74.00590? Thanks!
Hi. Awesome video. Can it measure distance from point a to point b? Also can you get topo maps that show creeks , gulleys etc? If yes, how do you get them into the unit? Cheers
I want a cheap gps for a dual sport motorcycle trip. I need to be able to navigate mostly back roads (streets) a few dirt roads and even fewer trails that would not be on my nuvi. Do you think the 60csx would work ok for me?
@@DirtyHarry000 yes. The problem is that when I punch in a route to do a cut through trail on my nuvi or phone it takes me on a huge loop around to get to the other point. I know they make a Zumo specifically for off road riders, but they are a small fortune and I found a 64sx for $100. So if I have to, I will act like a hiker to get through, but would rather have my whole route on this.
I go to places where GPS radio reception can be almost non-existent on a smartphone, and it will absolutely kill the phone's battery when the GPS is struggling. Don't get me wrong the GPS radios on phones are generally pretty good, but a standalone device with an external antenna will find more signal which can keep you from getting lost in the middle of nowhere. It happened to me, and I now have a standalone device because I would prefer to never have that happen again. Outside of that there isn't much use for it.
I just purchased this gps. Still in the mail. I was trying to find out in the details of the order the battery life. But it didn’t say. How long does the batteries last with AAA batteries. Or would you recommend buying the battery pack that garmin makes for it
Depending on how you use it. If you mark your car say, then you can turn the unit off untill you want to find your way back, the batteries can last for a month. But running continually maybe a couple of days?
who's the best? map64s or etrex30x. I need a very accurate GPS (great signal in woods and valley )and fast for hiking and hunting and easy to use .... thank you. best map64s review on youtube.

When you first buy a GPS handheld, will it have a map installed and everything?
Some GPS units don't have mapping capabilities sadly.
Could this handheld be used for traveling on roads, like a normal auto gps? I would love to use a handheld mounted on my motorcycle handlebars.
You could also use a mobile phone?
@@DirtyHarry000 if I lost or broke my phone, I’d lose everything. I’m afraid to mount it on the handlebar, so I’m just thinking of other options.
