Hi Rami, I’m wondering if you can help this enthusiast understand how you find the exact coordinates for a point for the base station or a total station when needed. It seems to me many total station operations you need exact coordinates of a point and for the base station you also need exact coordinates. It seems to me it’s a bit like the chicken and the egg situation. How do you find that exact coordinates of that first point? I’m from the U.K. not the US if that changes anything. Thank you.
Most governments have an open data portal or map where you can normally activate and deactivate layers, there should be all points (at least that one from the governments). Have a look for example in www data gov uk (urls do not work in yt), sometimes it also helps to go for a city data portal - or just ask a local surveyor
Great video! However, will the base lose its mobile connection when you're out in the field collecting coordinates with the rover? Basically will the hotspot range be a limitation, unless you have two smartphones to leave with the base and one to collect data on the rover?
Good day. With these receivers, the base will not be transmitting corrections via wifi. The corrections will be transmitted via built-in uhf radio (Lo-Ra) or the internet. If the latter is used then both the base & rover will need 2 separate connections to the internet. So the short answer is no - the hotspot range will not be a limitation
Hello Rami, first of all thank you for all of your valuable video guides that you have been sharing with us. I personally have a question for you about indoor navigation solution in confined space. Please advise.
Nice video it really help me. I’m just wondering if we have a base and a rover set up, is it still necessary to have a p4pro with the rtk module or not ?
Hi, if I have not known point for Base. For example If I have to survey or topography in area where there is no known gcp point, how I can start. I have base and rover setup same like in this video. Regards.
Hi Rami, thanks for the video. I am curious, when you set up at a completely unknown place with no reference points, how do you calibrate your instrument?
The point will have to be calibrated from a known point either by observing a known point nearby or connecting to a network of receiver(s) such as VRS or NTRIP.
Thanks Rami! Super informative. Do you have to have a known survey monument or control point with coordinates to set up the base station to achieve high level of precision? Or can the base station be placed anywhere as long as it is fixed to achieve the same level of accuracy?
Could you please make a video of emlid base and rover, determining it's precision over a point. Ie record record one point several times under different weather conditions and different times of the day. And show us it's consistency I will be grateful
Hello, thanks to share all your knowledge! if there is no known point near the place we have to survey, how create a georeferenced landmark with the reach?
Depending on your location, you might find a geo-referenced point from hydrology department of your area, land survey companies near your location or a GTS benchmark. You can then use the baseline transfer to geo-reference your nearby point from the already existing geo-referenced point ( legs of transfer depend on the distance between both the points)
What a nice introduction on the setup! I have a question regarding disturbances. Since you have a relative position to the base station, does this allow you to have a better fix with heavy obstructions overhead? For example under an overpass or similar.
Hello, thanks for the video. Can you talk about the different GNSS equipments. There are some equipment with include a inclinometer for messaging corners of houses. Some of them can messaging above trees, electric lines, etc. Can you explain how good are it and your opinion. I would like to buy a equipment but I don't know with one. I do boundaries, mortgage surveys, topo surveys and stake out, using total station, but I need something faster for working. Thanks. You do very good videos.
Great information Rami, thank you for posting. I've been using the Emlid Rs2 for a while now over Lora radio. Do you have any videos on how to diagnose when your Base and Rover recievers lose fixed connection intermittently? For example, how do you know when it can be a simple fix like changing the frequencies or something where the only way to achive fix is to switch from Lora to NTRIP?
@Hey Rami. I notice your using the Emlid GNSS receivers. I wanted to know what do you think of them compared to older brands like Topcon, Trimble and Leica. Is the Emlid better or why would the other brands be better or not?
Hello from Greece, nice video! In this setup (Base+Rover RTK), can we collect points with the Rover being very near to a building, under balcony or vegetation? Is it necessary for the Rover to have clear visibility of the sky and the satellites OR it gets its coordinates from the Base only using radio signals ??? Thanks a lot!
Hi Rami, is the radio connection between the base and the rover can through a dense vegetation or a building. I’ve noticed that he rover lost the fix green each time there is something in between the two recievers.
I have some concerns regarding the measurement of base station antenna height. You were measuring without installing the receiver on the tribrach. Doesn't the antenna reference point make sense? Shouldn't we measure the antenna height from phase of antenna?
Hi Rami, I have two RS-2 (base and rover). My question is which is optimal connection between the base and rover. With my Base connection via MiFi (stationary) would you suggest the rover to use a sim card, LoRan or ??. I'm new to all of this and have sunk a few $$ in the equipment and want to get the best out of my investment.
Hello! Compliments for this video. Can you make a video to check the relative accuracy and measure the distance between two points measured with GNSS and Total Station? Thank you.
I’m struggling to understand just one thing… How could you know the coordenate of this point that you setup your base station if you “rent or buy” the RTK just for that reason? In my case i picked up some points using a total station, so the only reason im renting an RTK GPS is to reference a materialized point that i used as a base point for the total station. I know that in someplaces you have a geodesic mark, a fisical mark, that has already known coordinates. But in a case that you don’t have this, can you just set up your base station anywhere you want and start yours measurements? I hope you understand my question, English is not my home language 😂 thanks for now

Will this technology work in a forest where trees may obstruct signals? 3. You referenced a known monument base station longitude and latitude coordinate. I have a question about this particular setup I will try to make it not sound so confusing. I work for a construction company. Second question. Is there a way to import the engineers layout onto the app so I could layout a job site (drainage manholes, curb sidewalk etc) using this unit instead of a total station? Not really, both the rover and the base are observing satellites, so if either one of them is obstructed, you will not have a fixed solution.
