Hard to believe that performance is live. It sounds perfect. Eva Cassidy is arguably the purest, more honest singer I’ve ever heard. A true blessing to have her recordings.
Here after Bill Withers passing, may he rest in peace. I hope he got to hear this version of his song, it was always my favorite, one of my favorite songwriters by my favorite singer.
Eva had such a hypnotic voice. Her voice literally can soul your soul. The world was so lucky to have had her for such a short time but I can't help but think what if she was still here and had the chance to really mature her music? Oh what could have been.
Every song Eva sang is her song. She has an angelic voice with clear diction & the ability to interpret the lyrics & music of each song plus the emotions needed to make connections with her listeners. That’s why her songs are so moving. My favourite is “Autumn Leaves” by Eva. No singer can sing this song like Eva. RIP, God bless you & keep you, Eva.
I am sitting here with tears rolling down my face....this was my dads favorite female artist...he passed away yesterday after a battle with cancer....I miss him....Eva's voice will be heard at his funeral...just not sure which song yet...leaning towards songbird...
I have a tear in my eye from reading that. I can't imagine what you and your family are going through. I hope that if words can't heal, then a voice like Eva's will. Songbird is such a beautiful song. Have a listen to time after time too x
+ORANGE FISHHEAD Fishhead, friend, so many of us would really like to know what song you finally settled on for your dads service. It feels weird to ask, but, well . . how was it? Were you comforted by his sendoff? Did Eva's song give you any type of strength, or comfort, or closure? Lot of folks are thinking about you OF. :)
We used fields of gold -by eva - one of my dad's favorites - we played this at the end as the background piece while people were given the option of placing flowers on his coffin.... And we used Judy Collins Amazing grace to start the service - which is a beautiful rendition sung by another wonderful singer..and another of my dads favorite artisits. My mum played the water is wide by steelye span as part of her tribute to dad as that was a song my mum and dad used to sing together. We also used American trilogy by Mickey Newberry and who knows where the time goes by Judy Collins on the tribute dvd - which you can watch on my channel..I posted it there for my dads family and friends in the UK to see it....It was a good service - we all cried a lot - and I will never be able to listen to any of these songs without reflecting on my dad.. I had a hysterectomy 9 days ago in the same hospital where he died....that was hard...but it also helped me to go to a deeper level of grief. I thank you all for your thoughts and kind words of support ...blessings to you all.
So jealous of anyone who ever was able to be in that blues jazz room listening to this amazing singer and her otherworldly voice...and even more envious of anyone who actually had the chance to know this beautiful soul personally...I miss her and I never even met her or had heard of her before her death...
+J Taylor -- I was standing in a Chad's gift shop in Spring, TX and heard this voice as I walked around. Over the Rainbow was playing and I remember the tears just rolled down my face. I love listening to her on cold, rainy days. Her voice is so smooth, comforting and pure.
Eva is eternal. Her natural smooth and crystal clear voice was/ is straight from heaven. It flows right into my soul. She was a rare and precious gift. Only discovered post humus . And she lives on forever in the hearts of music lovers who heard her sing. Forever my favourite female vocalist 🙏❤️🌈 Thank you , EVA .
She just captivated you in every song she sang. Crystal clear vocals, beautiful, simple arrangements - but yet she turned a classic that was somebody else's into her own and turned it into genius.
We didn't have anyone like her before Eva, and no one like her since. She was one of a kind. She is perfect to listen to in the car. Traffic jams don't seem so bad then.
The world did her wrong. She should have been known! So many of us were robbed of this talent. Posthumously though, she is an eternal superstar in so many ways. Thank you Eva, for sharing your beautiful gifts with us.
I swear, I am now looking for about two years for the best version of aint no sunshine...here is finally the best. undoubtly, I finally I can now say I can stop looking for a better version.
Eva could sing any genre, and that's why she wasn't recorded that much, but thankfully some beautiful recordings were made before she was taken. She could take a song and make it her own. Her versions of Songbird, Fields of Gold and True Colours way better than the originals. What a voice.
I think that some special people pass through our lives to bring us blessings ...I like that idea ...Eva Cassidy has been around for a long time but was made know to the public after her death... but the years she spent with us... seems like so little now, but it was such a gift ...I'm glad I knew her. Her song taught us so many things ...about laughing, and loving, and giving.
"Rest in Peace" my husband... Miss you my dear no more suffering enough was enough. Thank you for the years together taking care of me.40 years was a long time..🌹🌹🌹🌹Life is not Forever 🌹🙏🙏🙏🌹🌹🌹🌹
I just discovered Eva Cassidy recently and I love her voice. Her phrasing in her singing is as complicated to reproduce as Norah Jones. It can't be done. They are both amazing, but I believe Eva is best.
Ain't no sunshine when he's gone It's not warm when he's away Ain't no sunshine when he's gone And he always gone too long anytime he goes away I wonder this time where he's gone Wonder how long he's gonna stay Ain't no sunshine when he's gone And this house just ain't no home Anytime he goes away Well I know I know I know... When he's gone Always gone too long anytime he goes away Anytime he goes away Anytime he goes away
I always thought this song was ok. It was never one of my favorites. But God, I love Eva's version of it. What a surprise. I love everything she does. RIP my dear.
I used to love Eva Cassidy when I was a teenager but somehow I forgot about her music for the last decade and just rediscovered her today and I just cant believe how beautiful her voice is, it's like I'm hearing it for the first time again. I think she's my favorite singer ever, her voice is unbelievable.
I think Eva actually strikes people harder who have matured, have lived a while, been through stuff. You probably are different after a decade and her incredibly soulful, mature, nuanced voice hits you in the heart. Just a guess. I didn't hear her until I was near fifty and immediately I knew this was the greatest singer I had ever heard in all of decades before (and as it turns out the one and a half decades since). Viva Eva...
Bill Withers Eva Cassidy Both gave this song energy. But Eva made it her own and owned it beautiful in so many wats. the depth of her soul is brought up in this song for sure. Love this woman
an incredible treasure, all these songs together... and all your moving comments. worth a time for reading and reflecting on our lives.. good to enjoy every day, as we never know when will be the last.
When I first heard Eva Cassidy, almost 20 years ago, she had already passed away. It brought tears to my eyes to know that. She was the star that shined so brightly, and extinguished too soon. The world has been robbed.
with all the terrible events going on in 2017....floods. fires...hurricanes fighting with ppl over divisive issues..dealing with so much pain ..the only way i can relax is to sit and listen to this angelic voice....over and over .....then peace does invade my soul and make life much more tolerable.....this is great
Her voice is like a crystal, it's so pure and clear, I love it. Whatever genre she wants to sing she can do them all. Mighty fine guitar playing as well, crisp, flowing beautifully 😍
Just sitting soaking up the 'Nightbird' album again. (On my external speakers.) I've posted a link on Facebook for family & friends who don't know her. They SHOULD, know her! Thank you Eva!
I have heard many different versions of this song by numerous musicians and artist from all over the world, but, to me, Eva sings her version from the Heart. RIP

Less sunshine now they are gone.
Impossible to find fault with her voice. Crystal clear and mesmerizing.
Eva is one of the rare artists, that can sing a popular song by an artist and own it. Very few can do that.
Miley Cyrus springs to mind tho
Susan Boyle can.
Hard to believe that performance is live. It sounds perfect. Eva Cassidy is arguably the purest, more honest singer I’ve ever heard. A true blessing to have her recordings.
What a beautiful soul!! Your angelic voice has enriched so many people. Thank you and RIP.
Gone wayyyyy too soon. Thank you for the many beautiful gifts you gave us, Eva. RIP
I just discovered her today. What a miracle for me and others to enjoy. Rest in eternal peace😢
Only heard of her JUST TODAY, due to some brief documentary I don't have time to watch, so I pulled up a playlist. She was a rare talent.
What a class act. She poured her very soul into everything.
If supermarkets played this, I would shop all day!
While crying?
Lorraine Marks Are you trying to ruin retail employees life? That would hypnotize them and slow down customer service. Please go away!
helenGD Lucky Lorraine didn't say it for 'fields of gold', because then they'll be too sad to trade XD
Rest in peace beautiful, beautiful angel.
She makes every song she sings her own! Gone Too Soon!
Here after Bill Withers passing, may he rest in peace. I hope he got to hear this version of his song, it was always my favorite, one of my favorite songwriters by my favorite singer.

'Not only the purest voice , also a darn fine guitarist.
Her voice, phrasing, playing, soul, bandmates. She was the real deal!
Yes
Not bad looking either
Yes, her guitar playing as clear and precise as her singing
Yep totally 💯
The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long.
Rest in peace, Eva.
RIP Bill.
Just buried my mother in law
Today this song helps me
God 🙌
The voice that soothes an aching heart, the voice that makes your soul wandering through paradise...
Wandering through paradise looking for that emotional fix forever ....

+J Taylor She could sing a telephone directory and still be better than any body on earth.
J Taylor well said!!!
your comment that what i want to say ...
absolutely the best singer ever...can't get enough...just discovered here a few days ago!
Sorry to tell you she passed in 96.
I don't know why I've never heard of Eva, but I fell in love with her voice the instance I heard her first song. Really beautiful voice!
Same!
thats pretty cool
wonder how joe cocker does it he has a history of tracks like these
lets find out,
Listen to her "Over the Rainbow". It will make you cry.
Eva is a natural singer-arranger-interpreter
of songs.
Original by Bill Withers, who used to clean airplanes between flights. He felt it. She undoubtedly felt it.
She just captivated you in every song she sang. Crystal clear vocals, beautiful, simple arrangements - but yet she turned a classic that was somebody else's into her own and turned it into genius.
God I could listen to her till the end of my days...
One of the greatest vocal and guitar talents of the 20th Century!!! Gone way way too soon, may she now find the comfort she couldn't here on Earth!
Life is sad, but all my Troubles fade when I listen to Eva
Eva sings every note with driven compelling sorrow, longing.., grateful for the few tapes she left that her Dad found, so deep
Whenever I read about us being robbed of someone like her, I always think that SHE is the one who was robbed~~robbed of something we still have~~life.
I didn't know her. Wow! What a incredible voice!
I love love this version....best rendition EVER! RIP Eva
+Debby Smith (Debb) agree Debb brilliant
Listening to Eva is pure bliss. She is without peer.
Amen
Her vocals are pure soul and life.
?? for a caucasuian artist maybe, very good, Black performers who aren't even famous do this daily
@@onefoot7 No, I don't think so. Not like this.

True, this is by far the best version of ain´t no sunshine. Realy awesome.

Yes, look no further.
Amazing does not nearly say enough about her...Why was she not a HUGE International star?
She died sometime ago. Her following began in UK. It wasn't until after her death that she good International accolades.
Great cover R.I.P. Eva Cassidy!
Eva , RIP , your music helped me greive my nephew taken so young

And her beautiful version of Time After Time
Well said Larry and she was a very good guitarist.
All are beautiful indeed, but I learned of Eva Cassidy from the song Autumn Leaves. I love that song.
"Before she was taken...". She was murdered? Did they ever catch the #$%&@ who did it?
@@georgejuniorleedom4476Eva wasn’t murdered. She died of melanoma cancer.
Ain't no sunshine that Eva is gone. Thankfully her voice will be with us forever.

Just found this - a rare treat indeed.
Taco Veldstra I love it when you get some really good musicians in the mix.
Bill sang it with soul. Eva sang it with pain
@@nickspagnola6657 I agree wholeheartedly. Loved Eva's version. But NOTHING compares with Bill Withers. I have the "I Know s" down to a science. "
Ain't no sunshine since you left us, Eva! Thanks for the recordings though that keep your spirit alive.
Absolutely beautiful!!
Eva was a talent to be reckoned with on all levels. She got right to the heart of a song.
Ain't no sunshine when he's gone
It's not warm when he's away
Ain't no sunshine when he's gone
And he always gone too long anytime he goes away
I wonder this time where he's gone
Wonder how long he's gonna stay
