You gotta go to my old neighborhood, Bronzeville. The bronze statue of the brother with the suitcase at 26th street depicts the Great Migration from the south. Beautiful brownstones, small businesses and great restaurants! Thank you for putting in the work, Gemini!
South shore may have a crime issue, the vintage apartments remain spectacular, the lake, country club and the parks around its boundaries are beautiful..been living in south shore 63yrs
This was a nice video... the neighborhood is clean and well maintained. There wasn't a lot of litter everywhere . I can't stand litter.. thanks for sharing.
2:39 I was raised there at Park Manor Apartments in the early to late 90s, 7425 S. Shore Dr. Back when Powell school used to be on the opposite side of the street. The lake was my backyard, I always get teary eyed driving past. So many memories. Thank you for the video!
Thank you for showing this area. I've lived in so many areas of Chicago.. however, not much on the Westside. I don't know why it's so exciting to see these familiar areas. But we look forward to these videos, and we appreciate it each time you upload.
That is awesome. We showcase the neighborhoods all the time. Chicago is so beautiful and I love that there are so many areas that you can walk in. We’ve already showcased that. Take a look 😉
The old guy here. My brother and i went to Southside when we were in Chicago back in the 70s. We took the train that runs down the middle of the Dan Ryan. Don't remember exactly where we got off at somewhere in the southside. I still have a picture of a rental store sign that said Rent a Soul Brothers. You know, man, I've walked the streets of just about every major city in the country more than once, and I've never even had a bad word said to me! Hell i still have a Black Panther newspaper i bought off a Black Panther in Detroit in 72. Been around. It's nice you're showing this. People don't realize you have got people from all walks of life in all kinds of neighborhoods across this country who are just trying to survive like everybody else. Are there bad sections? Yes. That's everywhere! In the little city where i live south of Cleveland, our crime has always been higher than a lot of larger cities for decades.
@Joseph-ey8mm This was a long time ago. I don't believe we were in South Shore. I believe we were further south Just from the way the surroundings were.
Thank you for filming the inner city neighborhoods This Gemini. My husband is from the Southside of Chicago in the Roseland neighborhood. I grew up in the northern suburbs of Winnetka, IL. We enjoyed your channel even more.
Nice video! You were right off of the lake, a block away; I'm a surprised you didn't walk there to show it, especially by The South Shore Culture Center
This is South Shore Drive. That tall high rise bldg was 7447. I use to live there years ago. Some areas of South shore have deteriorated, stores closed, gang activity, neighbors just not concerned. Not all neighbors but many. And he walking along 71st, the drug and gang hood.
I left 75th and kimbark in 2022 and this video makes me home sick. My lord I spent so much money over there in that shopping mall area...from the new china express....to doing my taxes at the h and r block to that old game stop that shut down...man..thanks again
That’s my old neighborhood..I lived on 71 and East End and Stoney Island in the early 80s ..I want to Park Side Academy and Bryn Mawr Elementary..And I lived on 69 and Paxton Av…I miss the east side.
The southside has lost like 400,000 people. These neighborhoods are 30 to 40% of their historic peak populations so its nowhere close to bustling. Plus hundreds of mid & high-rise buildings were torn down. The south side used to be more of a concrete jungle.
@@stitch6157Also keep in mind there been alot of historic riots where things were burnt down and the city never rebuilt it, for all the bad reasons you can think of. If something like that happened in Downtown or North Side, it would recover within a week
@@hyemuhyemu8221 Yes that's a good point. Bronzeville is slowly recovering but the rest of the south side is lagging far behind outside of Hyde Park. Bronzeville has the potential to become the south side equivalent of Lincoln Park and homes are selling for record prices. A lot depends on if the Michael Reese site ever moves forward and some other major projects in planning.
I used to live in the yellow building on 7500 south shore right next to the old Powell school ( a school I attended/ class of 93). Apt 106 - good fun good memories fa sho!
Most of Chicago look decent to nice to beautiful. Its mainly the Westside that really looks grimey like Chi-town. Makes sense since its always been the poorest and most decayed side of the city.
