Anybody else notice there is a song called "land of ta" by "Smith and Dragoman"? It has some older dates on when it was posted in some places, but maybe somebody just changed the published dates somehow.
The biggest red flag about the book Carrie z had is the fact she stated that the book is "definitely real and not fake." At that point, it's safe to assume the book isn't real.
The thought crossed my mind too, but the first thing was Where the wild things are. I mean that was a good book, I liked it as a kid, but I never understood why it is considered a classic.
I grew up in the 80's in a small mexican town and I can confirm these stickers were easily found at stationery stores; that and the cheap price means they were produced nationally. We used them mostly to decorate our school notebooks and they weren't associated with any other media, they were just characters trying to emulate Frank Frazetta's style, I think.
I think the best way to solve this mystery is to file for a copyright to the names and likenesses of The Land of Ta characters. If we've learned anything by now, its that doing so will cause the original creator/owners to sue you. Thus revealing themselves.

Tbh the vending merch theory is pretty cool. I used to collect stickers and temp. tattoos from those things at my local grocery store. The thought of history refusing to forget a set of unbranded stickers from an unknown source is kind of inspiring, in a way. I wonder what the artist would feel, knowing so many people are so desperately trying to remember them.
From now on I’m going to replace “God” and “Jesus” with “GEEDIS” as an exclamation of disbelief. Example: “OH MY GEEDIS!!!” “GOOD GEEDIS!! WHAT IN THE BLOODY BLUE BLAZES IS THAT!!!” And “SWEET GEEDIS!”

My grandparents had a room that had all of this miscellaneous junk (it was surprisingly organized and dust free) I swear I saw the sticker sheets as my grandpa collected generic stuff for some reason. I just assumed it was just some kind of 70's cartoon from my dad's childhood.
Definitely vending machine junk. I remember getting them as a kid---I'm pretty sure Geedis was one of the more common ones---everyone wanted like the cool looking robot monsters or other junk, but we'd end up with the spaced out looking dump-monster. We had a vending machine in our town that sold these well to the nineties, and a lot of the kids in town had stickers on our crap from it. This was like... about the time of slap bracelets I got mine.
It was made for a hospital sticker book (at least, I remember getting it in a hospital). I remember it well. There was a comic about the boogeyman that came with it that I've been searching for years to find, the artwork in that was utterly terrifying. It came from a vending machine. There were also little candy cigarette things with tattoos in them that weren't anything like these.
You're going a long way and reaching when it's pretty clear that Geedis is merchandise from an alternative universe that was brought here by an inter dimensional traveler. The Land of Ta is ubiquitous in this other universe. It started as a children's book series, which later was turned into a moderately successful TV Show. Throughout the mid 80's people stopped talking about The Land of Ta, until it made a surprising comeback with a movie adaptation, around 1984 or 1985. Geedis featured in it as a benevolent sidekick who would do goofy things like fall over. He was an animatronic puppet who had limited motion, but it still holds up relatively well. He liked to eat Pizza and drink Sepsis, which made him burp loudly to uproarious laughter by the young audience. Sepsis is that universe's Pepsi, there was heavy product placement in the movie, which only got stronger through the second and finally the third one, by which time people had grown weary of the trilogy and how it became more commercialised. Is the condition of Sepsis known as Pepsi over there? I can't say for sure. In recent years a reboot which had been planned for a long time was finally released, it was a fully CGI Adaptation, but instead of being named The Land of Ta, they opted to call it "Return To Ta." In order to dissasociate itself with the horribly panned The Land of Ta's 2 and 3.
Go for it dude, you could get access to all sorts of failed concept stickers and pins - there's probably a few that collectors would love to see. Put some work in and you could even set up a social media persona around the idea, get'cha some UA-cam dollas. EDIT : did not think to click on your profile first bud. No offence meant.
They are a very popular Automotive Vinyl wrap brand. Probably 2nd only to 3M. I thought it was neat that half of the company started as a sticker printer, since vinyl wrap is basically big expensive stickers lol
The moment I saw the thumbnail, some long lost part of my childhood was awakened within me. I’m fairly certain I saw the sticker sheets and pins when I was a kid at a flea market A LOT. There was this one vendor that sold a lot of weird 70s/80s stuff and I think he had them.
I think Geedis is likely an artist’s version of a similar drawing from the original 70’s D&D Monster Manual. It looks like one of those style monsters but in a more stylized way (like the spaceships)
Whang! Wasn't subscribed because your new videos always appeared in my recommended but that last couple months they hadn't been showing up and I couldn't remember your name. Glad I found you.
Gotta say, you're now becoming one of my all-time favorite youtubers. Lots of people can cover internet stories/investigations, and the others I've watched who go for that just aren't nearly as entertaining to watch. Idk what but there's something awesome about how you run your show/channel
I definitely had two of the Land of Ta sticker sheets when I was a kid. I haven’t thought about them in years. But I never saw any additional merchandise. Even as a kid, I just thought they were generic fantasy characters meant to capitalize on the burgeoning fantasy fad. I even remember creating a “bestiary” where I made up backstories since they didn’t have any. An image I’d like to find again is “The Hedi Returns,” which was a piece of art used to advertise a gumball machine. Me and my brother have laughed about that one for decades.
The first thing that came to mind when I saw Geedis, was the painting "The Nightmare" (1781) from Henry Fuseli, of a woman dreaming and the content of her nightmare. I don't think Geedis is directed related to this painting, .. but perhaps the artist who created the illustration of Geedis found inspiration in the work of Henry Fuseli. In the early 70's there was an album with the Fifth Symphony "Lenore" by Joachim Raff (Conducted by Bernard Herrmann) featuring this painting on its cover. And furthermore there were several publications about the life and work of Henry Fuseli, through out the 70's and early 80's, celebrating a renewed interest in the work of the painter.
Yooo, at 6:20 it says "Cover art: "Angel Prelude" by Mikolojus Konstatinas Ciurlionis" That book publisher/author just straight up ripped off the art of one of the most prominent Lithuanian painter and composer in history. The more you know.
Guys, the answer is simple: The Mandela Effect. Somewhere out there, there is an alternate reality where Geedis and the Land of Ta was a very popular franchise. Enough for there to be stickers and enamel pins of the characters. Obviously, at some point during the 80s, our two universes overlapped, leaving behind a few trinkets of the other world. Geedis and the Land of Ta is just one of those trinkets.
Luciano Martinez well, if it was the mandela effect, I sure wasn’t effected enough. Lol id think this is the mandela effect people are just curious about what it is. People might remember what it was like because of the art style and choice of colours and how they saw it alot in their time

Hey whang, not to overstep here, but this video might blow up more if you do what Nick Robinson did and make the title something like "The Series With No Google Search Results"
These 100% are quater-slot vending machine stickers. I didn't know how old they were, though, we had Geedis stickers in the local Walmart during like 2005.
My grandma ran a laundry for 68 years in a small town in New Mexico. She had a bank of vending machines in the customer walk in area, which I have in storage to the is day, but I remember be these particular stickers on the wall of my brother's closet. I never thought to much about them, but I betcha that I still have a vending machine full of them in my storage unit. I can't wait to send this video to him. If there's anyone who knows anything about it he will.
I grew up in the 80's and the vending machine merch story sounds the most plausible to me. I do have vague memories of getting either stickers or rubber figurines (some looked to be high quality) that wasn't based on anything. This must have been a common practice in other areas as well considering that there were tons of coloring books at that time that also had unique characters that never appeared anywhere else (same with action figures usually found at craft and dollar stores). But take all of this with a grain of salt since I never gave this much thought till I saw this video.
there is more to this, back in 1981 there was a shoe store called Buster Browns, it was a place to buy clothes shoes and such for small children and toddlers, I remember it well. my grandmother took me to the location near our home as it was shutting down and had some kinda sale going on, I got those sticker sheets you showed from there, but they did also have several cheap plastic figures as well, they looked like colorful army men kinda, and came in a bag filled with all the characters and some space ships, the figures were all either red or yellow plastic and very poorly made, so of course i had to have them, unfortunately that was very long ago and i do not have anything to show for proof. I never did see those pins though. but i did have the stickers and I am pretty sure the pencil box i put them on is somewhere in my attic still. I will eventually go up there and look.
All I can say is that the art style is very familiar. My mom has several paperback fantasy books which I constantly saw the covers for growing up. The art style for the Land of Ta is extremely reminiscent of the artwork on the books. If I can find the artist's names and their catalogue of work I might be able to dig something up.

Geedis! I had a geedis sticker on my bedroom wall as a very young child in the late 80s. In fact in some of my childhood pics of my bedroom it's somewhat visible. I had no idea how or when I obtained it but it was stuck alongside an MTV sticker, numerous garbage pail kid stickers a batman 89 promo sticker and various other random 80s pop culture stickers and posters. I was 7 years old when we moved out of that house and I vividly remember being disappointed that I had to leave my beloved stickers on my bedroom wall. Afterward I kept my stickers in photo albums or sticker books but anyone old enough in that decade knew how popular sticker collections were! I always assumed that the geedis was just some random creature possibly from a show or comic that my older brothers watched but after asking them after seeing this video neither have any memory of that.
Like the little homies figures, that you could get. No cartoons or anything, just oc's created purely as collectibles. I collected them for a bit as a kid.
Its probably nothing, but i was able to find that an artist online used to have a blog and posted frequently in a now (poorly) archived forum called "The Kingdom" used the handle, Geedis. The Kingdom was a forum that was used to discuss and share comic book stuff and from the looks of it had a fairly healthy general board. This is from somewhere around '03. It happens to be the earliest mention of the name Geedis used online for anything that i can find. I find it hard to believe that someone happened to pick that name at random though seeing as its spelled the same and its used as a name and it also happens to be used by an assumed comic book nerd.
Freaked me out when I found out about all this on Reddit, due to the fact that I have the stickers. My brother was buying me all the stuff pertaining to Masters of the Universe and My Pet Monster that he could find. He brought me a bunch of packs of generic stickers which I stuck on my door at the time. One set of those stickers being the Land of Ta. I never thought much about it since a friend of mine had the same set too, but she put hers on her lunch box. I'm currently trying to locate the old door since we remodeled years back and I'm sure we kept it somewhere. When I find it, it has the stickers on it.
A ton of stuff came out in the 70s / 80s that was just stand alone no major content stuff. Rubber monsters, plastic space figures without a huge story.

My grandparents had a room that had all of this miscellaneous junk (it was surprisingly organized and dust free) I swear I saw the sticker sheets as my grandpa collected generic stuff for some reason. I just assumed it was just some kind of 70's cartoon from my dad's childhood.
I JUST learned about this the other day. Very timely.
Same. Lost a night to it and decided to delay my other almost finished video to cover it!
I found out about it recently on an AskReddit post about weird subreddits. Did y'all find it there too or somewhere else?
@@Imilmano I did, yes.
I found it yesterday from trending subreddits

I don't know if it was intentional, but it made me laugh.

It looks like one of those style monsters but in a more stylized way (like the spaceships)
yeah for sure, the space stickers were pretty clearly star wars knockoffs, so that's on brand for whoever was making them

@@SEiMEi_EXiSTS Me too. Meticulous, well-crafted, artistic trolling is a precious treasure.

I love the old final fantasy BGM...!!!!
People might remember what it was like because of the art style and choice of colours and how they saw it alot in their time
"... Dennison made also made a sticker sheet titled 'Women of Ta' which features all-female characters - probably to appeal to girls"
HAHA, no, it's to appeal to lonely nerds.

If you want me to wear 37 pieces of flair like your pretty boy Whang, why don't you just make 37 the minimum?
Company wants you to wear a uniform to make you look the same as other employees.
Wants you to wear 'flair' to make you look unique.
Love Office Space.
You should do a video on Popee the performer!
It's a wierd Japanese cartoon/anime from the early 2000s
there is more to this, back in 1981 there was a shoe store called Buster Browns, it was a place to buy clothes shoes and such for small children and toddlers, I remember it well. my grandmother took me to the location near our home as it was shutting down and had some kinda sale going on, I got those sticker sheets you showed from there, but they did also have several cheap plastic figures as well, they looked like colorful army men kinda, and came in a bag filled with all the characters and some space ships, the figures were all either red or yellow plastic and very poorly made, so of course i had to have them, unfortunately that was very long ago and i do not have anything to show for proof. I never did see those pins though. but i did have the stickers and I am pretty sure the pencil box i put them on is somewhere in my attic still. I will eventually go up there and look.
I don't know about the Land of Ta stuff, but the space ship stickers I've definitely seen.
Me, too. I remember those in vending machines.
All I can say is that the art style is very familiar. My mom has several paperback fantasy books which I constantly saw the covers for growing up. The art style for the Land of Ta is extremely reminiscent of the artwork on the books. If I can find the artist's names and their catalogue of work I might be able to dig something up.
If you find anything, please post your findings on the r/Geedis Subreddit!

To remove the blinding veils changing destiny
One night in a dream
His father held a vision
Suspended in the sea with jet black hair
To each and every strand
The fishes holding tightly
No matter where He moved they followed
Chorus
His only wish, to heal the wounds and ease the pain to free the world
And He was known in the land of Nur with guiding hand as Father of the poor

I had never heard of Geedis before but I have definitely heard of the land of ta. Super interesting video. Loved it

I remember these stickers vaguely, but my babysitter will never forget me completely covering a color tv screen with them.
Time for a Geedis update, Whang! The mystery has been solved.
So what happened?
