    I have watched literally thousands of RV reviews...this review is hands down the best I have ever seen heard. Intelligent, thoughtful, practical and well delivered. No screeching, squawking high pitched voices... the best insight as to why a bath sink is necessary when boondocking... you’re delivery appeared for all the world to be unrehearsed and natural, unheard of in the RV review world on UA-cam. Congrats... look forward to more.

    Awesome review! I really appreciate your attention to detail with your pros and cons and your descriptions of how seemingly minor things can have a major impact on the livability of a trailer. For example, at a glance, I would just think “what a beautiful faucet” - not realizing that the fact that it is so close to the sink cover or that it does not swivel would be such a pain! Thank you for providing your real world Nest experience with us.

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  5 років тому

      Glad you liked it and I know what you mean. Once you use it you see it differently. We were surprised how liveable the size was but then there was the faucet. It's so interesting for us and we love sharing it with you. Thanks for watching.

    I have a tiny bit of experience with an on demand hot water deal on an overland trip and I found that if I just barely turned it on to a tiny trickle, just enough for the water pump to switch on and for the coil to heat up, I could “prime the system” with very little water waste.
    Might be worth a try the next time you encounter one. Nice video!

    Hello from Alaska!!! I just bought a Nest 16U and I saw your first video and was thrilled to see that you did this follow up video. I'll be traveling in my Nest full time this fall for 6 months. You brought up several items to my attention I hadn't thought about, like the sink faucet. I always like a pull down spray faucet so I will need to look at changing that out. I'm an RV park kinda person so I'm thinking the single holding tank won't be as big an issue for me, because honestly that's just gross. Loved your review and cheers to your happy life!!!

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  3 роки тому

      Hey there, so cool you have the Nest and it will be so much fun for you. We are happy to hear we could help you out. Watch out for that screen door too, it can sneak up on you haha The beauty of RVs is you can find ways to make little changes that will suit your wants, needs and priorities and get it working just the way you like. Hopefully we can get back on the road in the fall too. Who knows maybe we will cross paths. Give us a shout if we do. Congrats on your purchase and safe travels to you. Thanks for watching.

    I don’t camp, but I enjoy watching reviews of campers…
    Yours was definitely enjoyable… and it was interesting.
    ‘Best pro … It was amazing, compared to other small trailers..
    Best Con… The lack of a bathroom sink. First time I;ve seen a bath without one.

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  3 роки тому

      Lately we feel the same as you. Between weather and inability to travel we feel like we haven't got out near as much as we normally would yet I can't stop watching and filming all of the great RVs out there. Haha The Nest was a really great trailer and we enjoyed it and yep that sink in the bathroom issue we have seen a lot and it bugs us every time. Thanks for hanging out with us.

      Glad you liked it. We have heard lots of good things about the Scamp but we have not been in one or had a chance to review one. People probably think we are creepy haha. Thanks for watching.

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  4 роки тому

      Yep these things do happen! I think the key is to not put too much weight in the fridge door and make sure it is latched well so when you go around corners the weight is not shifting and causing the door to open. Lucky for us nothing broke and it was a minor incident. Thanks for watching.

    Great review, I was interested in downsizing and was thinking about this unit. Now I know I don't want it. What broke the deal was the combined gray/black tank. I also have a tank-less WH and don't like wasting all the water waiting for it to warm up!

    I agree about the lack of bathroom sink. One tip regarding dirty dishes in the sink... use a small(ish) plastic bin to hold all the dirty dishes out of the sink until such time that you decide to wash the dirty dishes. The bin can live on the opposite counter or under the sink or just on the floor. If you find the right bin, it could double as a step for the commode.

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  5 років тому

      Those are some good ideas and would for sure help the sink situation. Thanks for sharing them and watching.

    Toilet cassette big plus for this camp and off road tires is the best 👌

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  4 роки тому

      Unfortunately, the Nest did not come with a cassette toilet or off road tires but you could make those modifications after your purchase. It would help with the tank space but don't forget you will probably need to do some work on the axle pitch to accommodate the tires. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

    We have curtains similar in our big rigs, take an old bar of soap, after it gets real thin. RUB it down the tracks. This will lubricate the tracks and curtains will slide easier. It will flake off the tracks the first couple of times, I just use a hand vacuum. Repeat as needed.

    I am 5' 3" tall so I normally never worry about how high the ceiling is, I was impressed with storage in the nest. I do like a permanent bed. As a solo camper even with the cost this unit is high on my list. But I do own a tow vehicle rated for 8100 lbs tow max so I keep my options open. Good observation on the freezer department. Hope airstream views your video and corrects these areas.

      I agree that airstream needs to improve their game in a few areas in both the small and large rv's. Especially the upper kitchen cabinets, faucet and bathroom in the nest. I somehow feel cheated when there's flimsy or "cheap" shortcuts taken. Your reviews are fair and spot on. 😉

      A rear bumper is a good idea but there isn't a lot of clearance on this trailer and we would worry about it dragging so it could not be very big and no lower then the current level so it could not be a replacement for the stairs, and for sure the Laguna table would be great. Unfortunately, Airstream has stopped production of the Nest so we won't be seeing any changes. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching.

Why wouldn’t an RV manufacturer want their newest RV to be seen on the road and get a real life review? I have an Aliner Ascape, and compared to it, this Airstream Nest is HUGE! The Ascape is 13 ft by 5-1/2 ft. But for me, it's perfect. But, it's not for everyone. Listening to the pros and cons you have with this one, you probably wouldn't like the Ascape. There is very little storage, very little counter top space, and no bathroom - It does have a toilet, but it's inside a cabinet that the counter top flips open and the doors open to provide access to. Basically, the entire camper becomes your bathroom.
    I'm not saying this camper is fit for everyone. Everyone has their wants and needs in a camper, some wanting a big motorhome, some wanting a larger trailer, some a small "micro" camper, and some are perfectly happy in a tent. It's why I like to say, "Camping is a state of mind". It doesn't matter how you do it - If you call it camping, it's camping, whether it's pitching a tent in the backyard, towing your camper behind you, or hiking several miles into the woods carrying everything on your back.

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  5 років тому +1

      We agree totally with your thoughts about camping and we always say there is an RV out there for everyone. I traded from an Aliner Ranger (1300 lbs) to an Aliner Ascape Plus. (1700 lbs) After a weekend road test, the Ascape proved too cramped for me. The bathroom was a plus, but I never used it. I then reconsidered looking at Airstream travel trailers. The price point, size, and weight were my concerns. All elegant looking trailers. The efficiency of space is a critical factor in this video. Like the Nest, the Ascape rear door was lovely. The bed situations are similar as well. The bed situation and the cabinets over the bed were the deal crushers for the Ascape. A month later, I did trade the Ascape for a fiberglass trailer, a Parkliner by Liberty Outdoors (2300 lbs) with a better bed option. The toilet floor was of particular interest to me as well, because I wanted to replace the flush toilet to a compost toilet. No trailer is perfect, the needs of the purchaser are the priority.

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  3 роки тому

      Glad you liked it. If we are taking off road capability out of it, hands down the Nest. We like the decor and function better in the Nest. We also like that it is fiberglass. It suits are style and the way we use an RV better BUT that is a really simplified answer. Each of us has different wants, needs and priorities that have to come into account when determining priorities and what we are willing to give to get. We have some decision making tools coming out soon that could help you out more so stay tuned for those. The other thing to take into account is that AS is no longer building the Nest so if that is the one you want and you find one keep that detail in mind. Good luck, thanks for watching and let us know if we can help any more and for sure let us know if you make a decision. We love hearing how it all goes.

      Good suggestion and we did try that but found that they sort of hung there loosely and we were afraid they would drop out. If we left them in enough to not worry about them falling we worried they would scratch on each other when we moved the door back and forth. Really, it is a minor detail but one that Airstream could easily improve upon and has in other models. Thanks for watching and sharing your ideas.

    Great review! The Nest is high on my list however, should I be concerned production stopped after only 3 years?

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  4 роки тому +1

      Glad you liked it. As we understand it, the Nest is no longer in production just due to it's high cost of production which translates to high cost to sell and the sales weren't as high as they had projected. We believe that is probably due to the fact that the Nest is so different from the usual Airstream product that people have come to know and love and it was really expensive. So it's not that you would be getting a poor product you might just be paying a lot for it and now that there will be a limited number of them out there you may even pay more. As for parts and repairs, most of the parts Airstream will have around as they are used in their products generally. Fibreglass repairs are always a tough thing and no matter what you would have to go to someone who know fibreglass well. Chassis types of repairs and maintenance will be the same as any RV. So it will all depend on your budget and what you are willing to pay for an intriguing, light, limited trailer. Hope that helps, thanks for watching.

  • @nevadanites

    Good video, thanks for your time. I wanted to add to what you said about the fact that it is a fiberglass (FG) body and if anything more than a scratch is a big deal and can get very pricey. That is all subjective and I would ask, in comparison to what. Even most high end RV's are made of FG, so the only likely alternative one would be fixing is mesa siding or aluminum paneling (Airstream). Depending on the location of panel damage and/or how much of the paneling is damage, metal paneling has to be replaced, cannot be repaired and can be quite expensive, due everything that has to be removed to replace this panels. FG is very repairable and like any RV repair could be expensive, but it also could be much cheaper compared to damage on one of the other systems, depending on extend and location of the damage. I would say the FG is a pro or a wash, not a con.

    • @DoesSizeMatter
      @DoesSizeMatter  4 роки тому

      Fair enough and we see your point. You are for sure right that any crack in any RV would be an expensive repair. In this particular RV it would mean an entire half or end is damaged due to the fact that it is a 3 piece unit when in others it may be possible to repair just the panel/section/side. No matter what still a costly repair. In our research we found that any serious body damage to the Nest was most often considered unfixable (meaning more costly to fix then it would be worth not that it couldn't be done). We are not FG specialists this is just what we found in our research. Thanks for sharing your opinions and for watching.

    • @nevadanites
      @nevadanites 4 роки тому

      @@DoesSizeMatter I would be very surprised if an entire FG piece would have to be replaced. According to Airstream it is molded fiberglass, which is like a boat hull and very repairable. I'm an insurance claims adjuster and unless a panel is absolutely destroyed or missing pieces, most molded fiberglass is very repairable, RV shops seldom replace molded FG panels.

      Glad you liked it and we know all about the reaching thing and we barely used those upper cabinets. It's a smart idea to rent one to try it out. We were in Canada so we rented from a platform called RVezy ua-cam.com/video/5hpyM5tHoGU/v-deo.html check this out to see how it went. In the US there are a few rentals that I have heard lots of good things about RVShare and Outdoorsy. These are all platforms where you are renting from owners, kinda like Airbnb. There are also companies that do rentals but you don't often find Airstreams on those sites. These ones, that I have mentioned, are a good place to find the most unique and variety of RVs. We have not reviewed the 16' Bambi but we have done the 16' Caravel and they are very similar. ua-cam.com/video/2EPuCx1azHk/v-deo.html I don't think the Bambi will have a sink in the bathroom and it will still have a combined tank. @@DoesSizeMatter It’s funny because I also like truck campers (Lance & Arctic Fox), their wet baths are exactly what you describe - everyone has a small sink!!!! If they can put that in the bed of a truck, why can’t Airstream put it in a travel trailer????
