  • My first matchup at the Torch Lake Bunker, wherein I play the Axis against my host, Big Al, as the Axis. We're using the Cliffside Bunker's bonus income as a balance, in place of a bid (but no other house rules).

great game! nice job navigating the mongolia rules correctly too :)
I think Germany got London way cheaper than it should have. With Germany's 1st turn buy, and it's luck on the 50/50 battle off Canada, Sealion was on the table. With a J1, US can bring bombers and fighters to reinforce London by turn 3. And the Taranto raid took 2 UK fighters (in UK and Gib) out of action. With these factors, Germany had an easy decision G2 to drop the transports. Forgoing Taranto is not a bad plan - even in the best case it tends to be IPC-neutral after Italy's counter. With those 2 fighters plus a US fighter/bomber or two, Sealion becomes so expensive for Germany that it's a pyrrhic victory.
You sort of mentioned this in the middle, but I think the allies could have still been in this one if Russia had been more aggressive against Germany too. As soon as you see that 10-transport buy Russia's role immediately changes from defending to attacking.
Good spot on the lone TTs off Japan, that slowed down the Pacific advance by nearly a full turn.

Great game to watch, a pity it didn't run its course due to time, but Axis sure looked in control across the map.

Nice video! I know how tough it is to film and play, especially in the wee hours. Thanks for posting!

Nice commentary on this game! In my opinion, both Ansac and UK pacific could and should have been involved more. I bet US spent about equal economy on atlantic/pacific resulting into not been able to force anything substantial on both sides. To me, the push on axes side seemed to looked too simple.

I'm really into these games of yours because they're really interesting to follow, especially with you learning from all your mistakes in the first games and becoming better players over time. However, some of the pieces I feel are a little wonky, since you use AA guns from Anniversary or Europe/Pacific 1940 1st Edition rather than the Anti-Aircraft Artillery pieces out of box, which you sometimes use as regular artillery. I mean, I get it if you are completely used to using AA guns rather than AAA, but the AA guns if they're in a different country's territory are no different from ones originally there, so how do you know which power controls them?

Fearing thanks for watching and commenting! I can’t speak to the pieces in this particular game, since this was not my board. But your point does apply to our other videos. It’s rare that we move AAA guns into an allied territory in a way that would make it hard to know who owned it, but it has come up. When we do, we often throw a marker underneath it. Or, in some of our newest games, we experimented with using aaa prices for some countries (Italy) and not others. Sorry if it’s sometimes hard to follow, but we know what’s going on while playing,

    Good game. Nice customizations.
I feel like USA should have just bit the bullet and tried to retake London/challenge the German Fleet on the turn London failed.
I understand that they were afraid of the consequences of losing the naval battle (Germany pillages London again on the following turn), but failing to revive London directly led to the Middle East petering out and the German Economy ballooning past the point of no return.

Yeah, I think taking London back is important, mostly because it will take Germany units away from Russia's doorstep and cause them to fight a real two-front war. If London ever falls when I'm the Allies, I put everything the U.S. can muster into a counter-attack, and I keep a steady stream of attacks going. Germany, when they see my resolve, tends to abandon further attempts, and now they have spent a heap of time and money on essentially nothing, while USSR is a monster.
But, then Japan runs amok in the Pacific. Oh well, can't cover everything! Just fight for those victory cities!

My understanding is that DOW doesn't matter; the rule is only triggered by someone actually attacking the territory.
