Your review was very helpful in my decision process. I purchased the PT1 and Basx A2 combo and received it 3 days ago. I’m blown away by the sound stage.
I primarily listen to vinyl but have a rather large collection of CD’s as well.
The internal DAC made my Pro-Ject CD box sound better than ever.
I had never thought much of streaming to previous system, but this a whole new world with the PT1.

This guy is not exaggerating! Just hooked up my new A2 to my Yamaha rx797 and my 901s sparkle! Yes 901s! A larger than life 3 dimensional soundstage like I've never heard. And this is an entry level amp? Can't imagine what their more expensive amps can do.

That Emotiva SE8 is a good little unit and may work well for music out of the box, but for movies not so good. I swapped the driver and radiator placement to get more bass at my seats for action movies. If anyone does what I did with my sub they should keep in mind that the wire connectors on the driver are self locking and must be released to remove the wires from the speaker tabs.

That PT1 looks great. They used to have a 7-channel pre-pro in the BasX range, and it was discontinued roughly around the time the PT-100 (the PT1's predecessor) was discontinued. Would be great if they were working on a 7-channel version of the PT1 for those who want to do HT but with audiophile separates rather than an AVR because music still reins supreme.

I purchased this combo along with some kef q350s (used Emo-bucks to lower price of PT-1) and I used amazon card points to pick up the KEFs for roughly 200 bucks. I am really loving it so far. I am still in the honeymoon phase and everything is breaking still. Hooked it up Christmas day. I noticed something that hasn't been mentioned, but the display on the PT-1 shows the sample rate of your source. Nice bonus. I played an apple playlist which had high res lossless 24/192 tracks and it showed on the PT-1 192khz. As far as sound, they fill my room better than tower emotivas I had previously. More laid back and musical. Nice soundstage and I don't need to be in the sweet spot to enjoy. I can be all over and they sound pleasing. Thanks cheap audioman for the reviews. They helped out a lot. Happy New Year.

My old system is a Onkyo six channel around 75 watts with re28 certain Vega's and a velodyne sub. The new system just sounds better more range and dynamic. You can't go wrong with these Emotiva amps. I just set my high pass to 90hz. It's possible to do this with a Bluesound node used as a pre-amp. Instantly heard booming bass from the big box in the corner I usually forget about. Back down to 50hz straight away. It seems to be a useless feature for anything but tiny satellite speakers. If it had been adjustable I would have ordered the pre-amp only version in a heartbeat. I'm considering buying two of these in the future to run four 10" Dayton Ultimax subwoofer drivers in my tower speakers, wired at 4 ohms per sub. I figure the sound quality will be more than good enough for sub drivers crossed at 100hz, 3rd order, and the A2 has plenty of power.

I knew I'd find a video from Randy on this. I bought the PT1 after having both a Marantz NR1200 and Topping E50 both fail right out of the box. I said screw it and stepped up to the Emotiva and instantly saw far higher build quality right away. I initially had the PT1 paired with a Fosi V3 with an upgraded power supply. I have CSS as my mains and that just wasn't enough. So I went on the used market and picked up a pair of Bel Canto monoblocs for a great price. My wife could care less about Hifi but comments on the sound quality of the Emotiva/Bel Canto/CSS mix. This video helps me in that now I'm not going to get a new phono stage. Seems like I'd have to spend reasonably more than I want to beat out the internal unit. That might be the same for the DAC although I suspect the Schitt Mani or Geshelli J2 might be worth the upgrade. I haven't moved the WIIM Pro to this system nor have I set up a CD playback yet.

I have an tube pre-amp from 25 years ago that is currently in the shop awaiting parts and there is a possibility that it may be unfixable. While this isn’t a tube product, it is inexpensive enough not to break my budget and has some tricks I could see being useful, namely bass management which will more easily integrate with my SVS SB-13 ultra. The DAC doesn’t seem to do DSD but at this price, it’s nice you have a DAC at all. I may test drive one just to see how well it integrates into my existing setup.

i recently went from a sparkos improved a07 to the A2....my preamp is still the T8. my a07 with the sparkos was pretty good sounding i just didn't like the fan noise of the more powerful powersupply and i would occasionally clip at high volume. the t8 i have attatched to the a2 sounds better to me than the a07. better separation, and space in the music especially in busy mids. for instance, LZ's' 'fool in the rain' - one of my test songs- comes out cleaner as the vocals mix with tomtoms and guitar. my system is paired with two polk psw-10 subs and polk tsi 100s. super clean sounding and just a great amp.

I hooked up my passive car subs to an Emotiva A400z (2x250@ 2 ohms) and it has been working great for 8 months. I just wish it was a bit bigger as my subs can handle 600 watts each but that's not the amps fault. Emotiva does NOT exaggerate their output from what I've found.

Hello Randy. Thank you much for your great reviews, and i love your added humor. I am seeking some advice. I had been considering this exact set up and once I saw your review, I pushed the order button and it arrived in days. I was super excited to get it unpacked and set up. Trouble is that it just seems there is something missing. I’m no super high end expert with golden ear drums, but the sound is lacking some dynamic? I think you mentioned it sounded warm, but i didn’t really know what that meant, but now i hear it. I am running ZU Audio DW’s and when I first got them my face hurt from the grin I had because of how much of an improvement they were. I previously was using an Onkyo multi channel receiver but I only listen to music and felt going dedicated to 2 channels would really make a step up. Anyway, the Onkyo seemed to have more going in the upper range, horns, drums, percussion, and such had more of a presence and with the Bas-x things seem muted ? Ive checked my wiring and connections 15 times and still seems like something is not there. I am only streaming music, just due the variety of content . Should I consider an external streaming device? Thank you for any suggestion, or thoughts.

A CD doesn’t have gaps on it. The player tells you what track it’s playing based on time codes, but it’s one continuous PCM stream. It couldn’t insert a gap if it tried.

      @rockmusicvideoreviewer896 Рік тому

@@ChrisStoneinatorDo you know what gapless playing means? MP3/hiRez music players play one song after another by playing one music file after another by searching for the files. There is a split second of silence heard, a gap, between each song. A gapless player is one that has no silence. This is for songs where the end of one blends into the other with continuous music. Examples are on Dark Side of the Moon.

FINALLY a good pre-amp with bass management! Very few options under $500 beyond using a home theater AVR or just letting your mains stay full range. Waiting for the headphone DAC companies (SMSL, Topping, etc.) to get involved and get us some good options for even cheaper. Their existing small remote control DAC’s are almost perfect for Sound Bar Killer setups. If they make one with a high pass filter I’d buy several and hand them out to friends and family like candy.

I like the fact the A2 power amp is Class A/B. The A2 is very powerful - any speakers it *can't* drive are probably not worth it.
Another route would be to use an Xduoo MT602 as a preamp into the A2 - obviously this is minimalist, with no phono stage or DAC.

I'm most interested in the Volume Knob believe it or not. I'm curious if the knob on the PT1 is similar to what it was like on the PT-100.. where it takes 6-8 full turns/spins do reach max volume. The biggest gripe for me with non-satisfying volume knobs is when they turn too easily, where it almost feels like you're just "spinning" them to get a good volume. Nothing tactile. I'm curious if you remember what the knob was like on the PT1? From the video it looks like it doesn't come out enough (ie: nothing tactile to grab), and seems to just spin at the flick of a finger. Thanks for reviewing these!
