Thank you, Leo! While I don't like fishing videos, I really like when you take us places and tell us stories of the past.
Glad you like them!
That's mind blowing, smoke coming out from those rocks, awesome
Hi Leo from Boone County WV 👋Sounds like Centralia Pennsylvania underground coalmine fire
Well u can tell who didn't watch the video 🙄
Go look up the "Burning mountain"; it's a Coal-Seam Fire that has been burning for an estimated 500+ Years in Germany.
I live in Cincinnati now but my hometown is Delbarton!!! Thank you for the video I miss home!! I remember that burning when I was a little girl my pawpaw took me there when I was a kid. Please do more from Delbarton, maybe something from the town.❤❤
We did a video on the town, if you missed it. ua-cam.com/video/gayj9D9EFIc/v-deo.html
@thehillbillyfiles you should show some of the spots that has been burned out and the ground has collapsed because it isn't supposed anymore
We had a huge mountain that burned from slate when I was a young girl growing up at Omar. It burned for years and years and years. Reclamation Department came in and finally put it out with chemicals and it was reclaimed and became a garbage dump for parts of Logan County.
Hey Leo, I really enjoy your videos. I'm 72 yrs old and have never heard about the underground fire. Very interesting, keep those videos coming.
Glad you like them!
Beautiful place.
Nothing smells like home than a smoldering coal fire. We had mostly waste piles but there was one underground fire that burned for 25 years until the land was developed for an industrial park.
I was trail riding around that area as a kid in the 90’s before HM and you would see large cracks in the road and smell the sulfur and heat coming up, great video
No wonder you were a trail guide. You have the best stories and a great voice and laugh. You food I camp around there and cook over one of those vents. Lol.
Wow, thank you!
Consider an infrared camera. That would give a spectacular visual of the underground heat coming from to the surface.
Thanks for sharing the video Leo. Something else.
There are many places in WV where coal seems are burning. Usually Forest fires start the coal seams burning, at least most of them. I live in Southern WV and you can see coal at the edges of the mountains. So fires can easily catch them on fire.
That is amazing Leo- that fire burning for 75 years!
This is very interesting! A coal fire burning 🔥 for 70 years? I have never heard of this before. I suppose the fire will keep burning for as long as there is coal to burn.
Great video, thank you very much Leo and Heather. Have a great day 😀
Would be a good ride in the winter with all those warming stations. Just an idea for your channel for about January. 😅
I work in the oil business in Oklahoma. When we drill a well, we drill through multiple water reservoirs that are located at different depths. There are many different salt water reservoirs under the ground and I wonder why the state department of natural resources doesn’t drill a salt water well and pump saltwater into the coal formation and put out the fire? The underwater reservoirs are huge, tens of billions of barrels of water. It would drain through the coal seem and drain back into a different underground formation.
Leo we thank you for these tours, but this was a little scary, fire is the worst disaster. Please be careful ❤
Hey from Memphis. Now I’m curious about what it looks like in the winter. Once again thank you for letting us follow you in beautiful country.
Thank you for this video. I would not have eaten that hot dog, either.
I appreciate your courage in entering into an area that lies atop a burning coal mine. The hazard of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, and other gases, would make me hesitate to enter, nor would I stay there long.
It appears to be a very lovely woodland.
Subscribed.
There was one that we always rode over in the trail near Williamson and in winter you stop and warm up. AWESOME video Leo and Heather thanks
😅🤣You are too funny! Thanks for the laugh!! That was interesting to see that smoke and burned trees!!
Much love Leo!!! ❤❤❤
Never knew this even existed wow. Ty for sharing very interesting. God bless you and your family. Beautiful nature. You learn something new every day:).
Leo I have the best carp bate I made it one morning when i was fishing Back in the late 1970's . I had fished all night and the cat fish had stopped biting . So I decided to try a little carp fishing Because I always keep some shredded wheat and some peanut butter in my tackle box but when i looked i was out of peanut butter all i had was some Dr. Pepper and it was really muddy by the river so i used some Dr. Pepper to wet the shredded wheat and the carp tore it up i have no idea how many i caught that morning and have used ever since I dont use any peanut butter anymore.
@@duckscustomgarage9239 corn meal and jello at water and it will stay on your hook, and they will kill it too
You re just a ways from Williamson Leo. Beautiful scenery. At one time, shag was burning on the side of the mountain on I-77 (WV Turnpike). From what I understand, it was burning for years. I drove passed the area and it was no longer burning. Gosh! This is very interesting Leo. Thanks you.
Imagine the cave left behind after all that burns.
It all collapses in on itself.
Hello Leo and Heather
First time watching your channel. Interesting.
Thanks for watching!
Can’t believe I never heard of this being fairly close. Thanks for the info. Kinda funny but it seems every mountain has a similar but so unique stories and family struggle
Perfect video on iPad to use fingers to zoom in on something.
Leo I love your masculine soothing voice narration.
What caused this to be continuously burning for yrs? Very interesting ! You all never cease to amaze me with your stories!!!!❤😂😮😊
Slate
As long as it can get oxygen it will definitely continue to burn
There's an underground fire that's been burning for years over a dump yard jus/ inside St, Louis County. Every time you cross the bridge from St, Charles County you can smell it, right by a beautiful amp)itheatre. I love your laugh, Leo. Best wishes to you and Heather.❤
Thank you ❤
Visited Centralia many times when I worked in the area. Really eerie in the winter as the heat melts the snow.
That's pretty cool leo
That's wild crazy looking😮
Interesting. Brought back a memory of seeing one, maybe in badlands North Dakota.
Such a pretty place down in the woods trying to survive this burning
Ohhhh I am instantly subscribing!! Wow! So awesome!!
I'll be checking u out Sir. Them underground campfire 🔥 are interesting got one here by my house been urning for years.
Loved the hotdog addition and I thought you were going to take s bite!! Thanks for not taking abute but something will!LOL😮
I live fairly close to Centralia... the only thing left there is a city hall building that houses a the fire dept that has about 3 or 4 active members and still responds to calls .. pretty much all the houses have been torn down through eminent domain or people selling out to the government and moving on... there were a few residents left in the 2000's that were holding on but most have died and left it behind and it got bulldozed if I'm remembering correctly
Centralia has been burning since the 60s and it all started from the towns people burning trash in the town dump, grafitti highway was filled in but people or should I say tourists still ride dirt bikes and quads on it,I'm about 2 or 3 hours from Centralia pa
Those punch mines you stopped at look like auger holes.
Thanks, Leo. Hope someone comes up with a plan.
I’ve been to centralia Pennsylvania. That coal seam has been burning for years too
Fascinating! Thanks for the lesson!
My pleasure!
How can I send you pictures of my family’s old-school coal trucks with wooden spoked wheels from the early 1900’s??? Now mind you these are actually from my mom’s side which happens to be right outside of Pittsburgh, now my dad’s side is from down your way in Jackson County Riley, WV & Ravenswood area, but you sound just like my dad’s people, the way you speak and the pitch of your voice I love it!!! Mostly are gone so it’s a breath of fresh air watching your videos to say the least!!! Please don’t stop
I meant to spell Ripley…my bad
Ive heard lf the Pennsylvania fire and the town getting moved... Seen several videos of whats left of the town but had no idea this was also happening in West Virginia
Can you share the history of that coal seam fire if available. Great video thank you for sharing 😊
On this phone I can hear it 😳👍
Be cool to see in the winter. Bet the it'd be warm up there.
22:30 there's a Bigfoot in your quad mirror!!!👀
Wow 😮. Super interesting video Leo. I probably would have eaten that hotdog 😂😂. Thanks for sharing this my friend. Lord bless you and yourn.
Thank you!
That's just crazy!
I know where what they say was a silver mine, it has dates from the 1800's carved in the walls in Summers co. Found it when I was a kid
This is a town not exactly sure where it is but its a coal town that also catch fire and has been burning every since the town had to be evacuated there No one living this that area anymore the town still have building and homes corner stores but no one there because under the town the whole area is burning Im think the town in in Virginia or West Virginia if i can find the name of the place i will come back to post it. There have been people go to the town for day trips they can get everywhere but they can get close even into some abandoned neighborhoods....
Edit the name of the town is Centralia PA its not in VA or W VA like I thought but it's a interesting story can be found online
Got some good stabilization going on
watching your videos a person can learn a thing or two ive never heard of coal seam fires i read the Wikipedia page about them thanks for the video Leo
Hey Leo have you ever been up Williams mountain goin toward old dump,it used to burn pretty good there ,,BOONE COUNTY
Ever seen bigfoot up there? I live in VA near Appalachian trail Montgomery Co. So geology looks like yours except the hollers are steeper, in some places here where you can't walk up the mountains, there been sightings of them. Im closer to Princeton and Hinton, especially my fish camp which is near pearisburg, eggleston, Galax areas.
Wow, what an awesome video!
I’ve always heard about them, but this up-close-and-personal tour was incredible and a little unnerving😳😫
Does anyone have any idea where it started and maybe how many miles it’s traveled?🤷♀️
Thanks for another cool (or hot) video!👍🏼🥵
Blessings 🙏
I hear the earth's core is getting much hotter.
I blame Mrs O'Leory's cow, damn thing has been causing fires everywhere.
live in south east ky we have a few coal fires now and again most dont burn long theres a few like this one been going for years lightning starts most of them only way to put em out is starve them from oxygenburying with dirt sometimes works but coal seams go everwheres and get air from caves and cracks in the ground move everywhere following the seam
There is a whole mountain on fire in Prenter WV
Yes Sir
LOL . . What a sense of humor.
For heaven's sake, Leo - be careful!!!!
Saw the smoke against a trunk of a tree u had to look real careful to see it
Hay hillbilly's I think something paranormal/cryptid is going on in that hillside on your left ( if you're sitting in your ATV) I see things like humanoid type stuff in that part and at 5:14 in middle of the screen of one of these things with pointed dog looking ears it's pitch black and several more weird looking things all through that area, I can only imagine what's lurking in the night around that hot burning scary ass place lol, keep doing what you do but be careful
How were these fires ignited. This was interesting maybe more videos on this. Thanks Leo
Lighting !
I had no idea that WV had its own nonstop burning coal mine, I’ve heard about the PA one, not the one over here 👈
I dont understand why they couldnt find where the smoke comes out at multiple spots and just soak it with water. I mean not flood it necessarily but eventually either itll start a wildfire or someone will end up falling through a sinkhole
I do remember
I'm surprised that this is the only one
How did the coal fire start? Have you ever heard a rumor? What a horrible job being a coal miner
we didn't start the fire. It's always been burning since the world's been turnin
@@JimHerbertOutdoors I didnt think it was started intentionally. So its just been burning forever. That’s crazy.
😁
it's usually a lightning strike
@@mycharmedunicorn8715 he's quoting an old song.
There is a mine fire in china, believe it is called the Golden Dragon,it's been burning for over
400 years, reminds me of Centralia... the fire can burn as long as the coal seams occurs in the surrounding rock.. ancestors were all coal miners in PA... from the early 1800s
I wonder why the forest doesn't catch fire?
It does, when the flames pop up in the right spots it burns that area clear.
Shame they could use the natural resource for power. Same with volcanos.... thanks for sharing.
Leo, if you were looking for the fire, why didn’t bring marshmallows? Lol
Very interesting. How does it not set the whole woods on fire when it burns to the outside?
Sometimes it does.
this explains where magma, lava and volcanoes come from. the deep underground of the earth must constantly always be burning, this might explain earthquakes gravitation and everything else.
Nice video
I was wondering if you could cook over it😸
How in the world does anything grow there
There's gold in that kind of rock
I may have missed you saying what started the fires...could someone tell me? Thank you
Hard to say.
Wonder what happens if it burns till it hits giant pocket of something like natural gas?
Good question. I'm sure it happens from time to time.
Some of the older miners would joke that they were going into hell and stealing
The Devil,s coal; these breaks were seen as a glimpse into Hell. Ha
Can you tell me why the leaves in the woods all is not burning? I mean, I see the burn on the trees and stuff. Why hasn’t it caught on fire and burn if it’s as hot as it is do you think you would have a big gigantic forest fire?
They do, when it runs into a good dry bunch of wood.
Good video. That coal fire burning so long. How did it start?
Its hard to say, could have even been lightning
wish you had temperature gun with
Certainly tech could stop the fire 😮
Can you drive trucks here? Or just ATVs?
This one is ATV/SXS/Bikes only, but we have a couple trail systems you can take those on.
Now that distlling equipment isn't instant prison if in your possession, distill some coal tar. It is a chemical cornucopia. Someone will buy it.
I guess it would be coal oil, it won't be much heavier tar. Ran through slaked lime or similar to take the acid out and filtered through diatomaceous earth it can be clear and non corrosive. There are charts of what you will get from destructive distillation by regional coal (east vs west etc) just the tops tho.
Is the water hot?
Not really
All that coal burned to waste. At least it’s not as big as the one in Pennsylvania
What part of Boone are you from?
I'm from Mingo
What actually started this fire to begin with?
Hard to say..
