    I love my double monk straps, I think they would be a great 2nd pair for versatility, after an oxford because the right pair could go from suit down to causal jeans, but from personal experimentation they don't work at all with shorts haha. Great video as always Antonio.

    Thank you so much for making this video, Antonio!
    For me, I would probably rank in this order:
    1. Black balmoral oxford
    2. Brown derby
    3. Penny loafer
    4. Double monk strap
    5. Chukka boots

  • @lordandrazdolinar

    1. Black and brown Oxfords
    2. Brown wing brogues (brogues, semi brogues)
    3. Brown duble mongstraps
    4. Brown wing butes (brogues, semi brogues)
    5. Brown loafers
    I like wings the most.
    Have a nice day Antonio.

    2. Brogue wingtip oxford
    3. Chukka boot or Chelsea boot
    4. Monk strap (single or double)
    5. Driving moccasin
    The color on #2-5 are up to personal preference but #1 should be black

    Another great video and I have recently discovered double monk straps. My collection in order:
    1. Black Oxfords
    2. Brown semi brogues
    3. Brown leather chukkas
    4. Light brown / tan double monk straps
    5. Dark brown / bitter chocolate suede chikkas
    And a sixth...
    6. Darl brown / bitter chocolate suede loafers

    Hi, for my lifestyle, the number one would be a multipurpose hiking boot which can be worn casually without looking goofy. Second is a high quality dress shoe like an Oxford. Third or fifth would be, which was in my previous comment, the double monk strap. The Wolverine 1000 Miles would be a competitor with the chukka for forth place.

    I would say that if one doesn't have a job that requires you to wear a suit, or if you don't wear a suit very often, you could pretty much buy monk shoes as your first pair. They are very versatile and look great with the casual look. Even better than a pair of oxfords or derbys if you ask me. Though I wouldn't start of with dark brown, rather black or light brown or even tan.

    I love my double monk straps! I recently bought the Magnanni Miro, Tobaco colored, and it is quickly becoming my favorite pair! If I didn't have any of these shoes, I would put this on my list at number two just after black dress shoes. I rarely wear black dress shoes; otherwise, I would have put two different types of them at one and two.
    Here's the order in which I would put them (based on my needs/preferences):
    1. Black dress shoes - type dependent upon the level of formality you need.
    2. Double monk strap (I prefer brown)
    3. Brown driving moccasins
    4. Black Chelsea boots

    Personally, I prefer:
    1. Black cap-toe oxford. Because it will get you through the most formal of events.
    2. Brown Semi-brogue oxford. I prefer the oxford to the derby personally, but this will be a nice step down in formality.
    3. Caramel brown 2x monk strap. Another step down for formality yet has a young, playful vibe.
    4. Cordovan penny/tassel loafers. The Gentleman's Gazette suggested these and I agree, they go with everything!
    5. Blue or white suede loafers. My preppy side is showing, but I love a non-boat summer shoe to round out the capsule.

    1. Black, cap toe Oxford. I say Cap Toe only so that no one thinks I mean those fake leather, boxy looking abominations that you see so many men wear. These can be dressed down with slacks and a short or up with a suit. They're the most versatile shoe you'll own.
    2. Brown Wing tips. I think Brogues are a touch too informal to start with, but they're not a bad decision. But I like these also for the versatility. They're timeless and classic and all around look good.
    3. Slip ons. Personally, I like monk straps. I think they look amazing and they're so convenient. But any pair of decent, brown or black slip ons are good for travelling, they're comfortable, they can be worn casually.
    4. Boots. A good pair of dress boots are a great addition to any man's wardrobe. I really love Chelsea boots but Chukkas are nice as are most good dress boots.
    5. "fun" shoes. To me, every man needs a pair of fun shoes that are good for lightening the mood at a Christmas party or something like. Colourful derby shoes, but not too zany. Or some funky wing tips. Something to make you seem classy, yet not stuffy.

      Where I live you almost never see Oxfords, so my list is a bit different
      #1 a pair of black Chelsea boots. They are much nicer than the shit I see almost all men wearing around here
      #2 brown double monks - again, they just set me apart from others
      #3 brown derbies- a bit more formal than the others(potentially)
      #4 brown suede chelseas- they just add a flair you don't see in my area

    1. Black Oxford Cap Toe
    To dress up a suit for interviews and important events as well as black tie.
    2. Walnut Oxford Cap Toe with Brogue
    Worn with a suit in less formal situations like a business lunch or church. This shoe adds spice to normal business attire.
    3. Cap Toe Double Monk Straps
    This shoe is better worn on dates or outings with friends and family.
    It is not formal, but it is classier than tennis shoes.
    Color or texture can vary based on your own sense of casual style.
    I prefer dark blue jeans with a nice fitted button down shirt. Maybe a nice sweater or a leather jacket on colder days.
    Tan suede Monks are my favorite.
    4. Dark Tan Boat Shoes (Dark sole, not white!)
    This shoe is generally for summer while wearing shorts, hanging out at barbecues or lounging.
    They can look nice as a casual outing shoe with pants as well.
    (Still better than tennis shoes!)
    5. Tennis Shoes (4-5 pair!)
    For every day wear when you are not with friends or visiting anyone. Hanging out at home, going to the grocery store, picking up the kids from school, going to the gym, etc...
    Having several pair that can be rotated will make them last much longer and keep them from getting smelly.
    6. Work Boots
    This is basically any boot that fits your lifestyle, so some may not need this. I like to go camping, hunting, hiking, etc....
    So a good pair of military style or hunting/hiking boots are perfect.
    These are all the shoes I prefer for my lifestyle.
    Anything more is just fluff.
    I love your videos Antonio.
    I am only subscribed to 10-15 people and you are one of them!

      I guess my comment got cut off.
      Hmm...weird.
      Going to the store, etc...
      Having multiple pairs for rotation will make them last longer and keep them from getting smelly.
      6. Work Boots
      I like to go camping/hiking/hunting, so having a good pair of boots that can be used for many different things are very useful. Military/Hunting style boots are my favorite choice.
      That's all the shoes I need for my personal lifestyle.
      Everything extra is just fluff.

    I would say a third shoe. I would go for a pair of wholecut black oxfords first, a pair of black dressier no cap toe full brogues (not longwings though) and a brown pair of double monk straps as a third. Well I should mention I prefer dressier looks way more than casual one. And that that means I might wear a suit with a necktie to a truck stop just as our friendly blogger Sven Raphael Schneider. Thanks for the great video.

    I believe if you're just starting out your shoe collection you should aim to own these five:
    1) classic black oxfords for business wear
    2) brown/burgundy brogues for business casual wear.
    3) loafers or boat shoes for casual wear.
    4) canvas sneakers for super casual wear.
    5) durable boots for any "dirty work" you might have to do.
    Only once you've got all those bases covered would I recommend going for fancier shoes like monk straps and dress boots. Just my two cents.

    1.Black Cap.Toe Oxford
    2.Brown Derby Brogue( l like the Semi Brougue, But go for a wingtip or Longwing if that's your style)
    3. Burgundy Penny Loafer
    4.Dark Brown Double Monk Strap
    5.Tan Chukka Boot

    3rd or 4th after a pair of black toe cap oxfords and a pair of semi brogues. It's more likely that I would add a pair of boots to my wardrobe first as in terms of function there is more overlap/redundancy between my brogues and the monks.
    Another reason I would opt for a pair of boots first is that I prefer to 'weather proof' boots as opposed to shoes and it gives you a wet weather option. You can buy all kinds of shoes with a dainite sole these days but I prefer them on boots.
    That said, I am a big fan of monk shoes and I currently have my eye on a pair of cedar calf monks with broguing on the toe cap and strap.

    Hello Antonio! I'm back. What do you think of wearing a detachable Imperial collar? Also what would look good with it? Im into the Edwardian style at the moment, and I just think the Imperial collar gives off a sense of authority and power.
    Cheers Antonio, keep bringing out these fantastic videos!

    I really like watching this channel, as there is often great advise, but one of the biggest deterrents of these videos is the lack of utilization of the visual medium for demonstrating clothing and style. This is really accentuated by the "PowerPoint" manner in which the video is presented, particularly when there is a suggestion of a combination of items, e.g. for a demonstration of the outfit, stock photo images are shown for the individual items. It lacks dynamism and visual appeal, which make the videos appear rushed and unprofessional. Honestly, why put the effort into a video presentation, if it's no better than a narration of the article?
    At the very least, this problem could be remedied somewhat by having just a mannequin show the suggested outfit.

      You are absolutely right. I think all of us would like seeing Antonio exemplify the clothes /styles that he's talking about.... Just a quick 10 second pirouette would do just fine

      I agree with this. I believe the visual presentation should be a little more appealing. If Antonio wants to keep this Powerpoint style, he should look at all of the awesome tutorials on improving presentations.

I was hoping you could tell me ( or even make a video) of what sort of laptop, table, phone you use for your work. PS i'm a french Canadian so sorry for the many spelling mistakes you will find in this text.

    My personal choice:
    1 - Black cap toe Oxford;
    2 - Black plain toe Derby;
    3 - Brown Double Monkstrap;
    4 - Brown Penny Loafer;
    5 - Brown Chelsea Boot;
    6 - Tan Wing Tip;
    7 - Black patent leather plain toe Oxford.
    What do you think?

  • @j3e125
    @j3e125 9 років тому

    Casual:
    1. Derby/blucher dress shoes, or brogued shoes with a versatile color.
    2. Extra pair of 1.'s
    3. Maybe some dress boots to add variety.
    4. Oxford shoes
    5. A show shoe. Something that grabs attention, but not ridiculous.

  • @ThePerfectElement555
    @ThePerfectElement555 9 років тому

    For dress shoes:
    1 - Black Captoe Oxford for more formal and conservative occasions
    2 - Dark Brown plain toe blucher as a simple and versatile shoe from jeans to suit
    3 - Medium brown - tan brogue / wingtip as an equally versatile shoe but a little more attention grabbing than #2
    4 - Medium brown - tan double monkstrap as another incredibly versatile shoe but switching it up from lace-ups.
    I'm in the process of building my dress shoe wardrobe out of quality shoes for the first time, as I never really wore dress shoes much before. I'm currently in between 2 and 3 on my list, and I haven't decided if I'll get a brogue or double monk next. (I do also have a brown pair of suede bit loafers I got on sale at AE a few years ago though).
    For those looking for a budget double monk, I picked up the Steve Madden Lyfe at DSW for $50 a few months ago just to test the double monk waters as my work shoes currently have to be black, and they're pretty decent for what they are. The leather is creasing like crazy and of course I don't expect them to last terribly long given how much I wear them but they look good and have a very sleek, more European shape. If anyone else likes the look of double monks but isn't quite sure they can pull them off, like I used to be, they're a good way to try them out without spending a lot on an AE or similar pair.

    Either a two or a three, depending on your personal tastes. In Australia a lot of people wear ug-boots and flip-flops, so wearing a monk-strap would still elevate your style. Besides, they look a little different so you'd be setting yourself apart from the crowd.

    I'd say monk straps should be either the 3rd or 4th pair.
    1. Dark brown wingtips
    2. Black oxfords (Or 1st if you need shoes for a formal event)
    (3. Chukka boots, or other boots if you live in an area where it gets cold in the winter)
    4. Monk straps
    5. Loafers for beach and picnic

    I guess second, black oxfords first. Then a brown monkstrap shoe or a brown oxford.
    Almost right! I think the monkstrap in brown is equivalent to any formal shoe in brown. But that's just my opinion, I'm glad that I was right about the most formal shoe though, the black oxford.
    Just bought my first pair of expensive formal shoe, 100 USD, used. New it was 520 hehe. Just need to change the heel.
    I really love the monkstrap, but I'm getting myself a brown oxford soon!
