- FISHING FOR A THREATENED SPECIES OF TROUT!
The greenback cutthroat trout is a trout native only to the south platte river basin in Colorado. It was once declared extinct in 1937 before it was found in the headwaters of one tiny creek. To this day the fish is still listed as a threatened species according to the Endangered Species Act, however do to some amazing conservation efforts the fish is thriving is several areas in Colorado. This allows anglers to catch one of these little Rocky Mountain gems and get an up close and personal look at what was almost lost to history.
My brother and I caught several healthy greenback cutthroat on this day. The beautiful clear water of the Rocky Mountains produced not only a vista that was hard to compete with, but it also produced a fish who's colors were nothing short of amazing.
Thanks for watching!
I like how you emphasize the importance of taking care of the species! Nice man!
What beautiful waters - and trout! I wish Colorado great success in this important restoration effort. And thank you for sharing these great outings with us!
I wish I could talk to / meet the guys who have been on the front lines of the restoration efforts. Thanks for watching!
Another great video Gang! Love the fish colors and footage!
I haven't heard the sound of running water for a while, thanks for your video 🎣
Beautiful releases on those fish. Quick, kind and some great underwater shots! Thanks!
I felt that the releases were more important in this video than usual! Greenback's are a special fish
@@hardmanfishing yes I agree! Very important
Your guys videos always get me pumped! I've got three little kids so don't have nearly as much time to fish as I used to, but it's always fun to watch you guys tear it up!
Awesome fish, beautiful terrain and water, and a Huge thank you for practicing and getting the word out on the conservation of the fish in those territories. God bless y'all and always tight lines. Tony
Thanks Tony!!
Thanks for the advice on being careful with the fish, I think that's important. Sustainable populations of trout are beneficial.
Yeah it's something I should talk about more, and probably will. Thanks for watching!
Absolutely amazing! Such beautiful water and pretty trout colors!
Thank you!!
A superb footage man! What a stunning pristine scenario that is a sanctuary for an endangered species of trout. A wonderful privilege to be able to live such an exclusive hiking and fishing adventure and gaze that rare beautiful fish. As always a most gorgeous video.
Couldn't agree more!! Thank you for watching
This is AWESOME! That's our local fishing hole! Great to know you guys are out exploring our great state's waterways! You were about a mile too eastward and south of the interstate where the Greenbacks are flourishing!
Beautiful trout and creek , thanks for sharing Addaboys
Beautiful man. And here I was so proud of myself, this Monday I caught my first Brook Trout up in PA. And you do this..
Don't feel bad your doing better than me, I've just started fly fishing this year and have caught zero trout in PA so far. 😂
That's awesome man!! Congrats on your first brookie. This time of year can be tough, if you can catch them now then you'll do well in the spring
thanks for always putting out amazing content
Glad you enjoy the content!! And thanks for thinking its amazing
Fishing Etiquette 101 taken straight out of the Fishing Gospel "wet hands, rubber coated net and minimum time outta the water" should be applied when chasing any Trout especially one that went almost extinct ! A Big AMEN to that ! The Rainbow Color Patterns on those Cut Throat Trout were absolutely amazing. Must have sent Goose Bumps up your backside when landing those beauties. Thank you very much for your time and effort in putting this video together including the history lesson on this beautiful species of Cut Throat Trout. Well done ! 👍
Thank you!!
Your cameras are better than ever. Nice job Homeskees!
Thanks dude!!
I know that spot! Thanks for sharing and for keeping things on the DL. Heaven knows front range creeks get enough pressure already.
Nice, Nice, very nice 👍. Enjoyed watching. 👍 tight lines. 👍
Beautiful water, fish and surroundings.
Thanks David!
Amazingly cool!
Great video and content. Thanks.
love your vids i’m from texas so it’s cool watching u catch trout. i bass fish but i’m trying to learn how to fly fish for blue gill
Too funny... As you were describing the spot in the beginning, I knew there's only one like it, and then I recognized the old wooden structure. I fished that spot one month ago and had a blast. I caught one further upstream that had scales along the edge of the green back that sparkled. I have more of that section to explore.
Yeah this spot isn't too much of a secret to be honest, but its still an amazing little creek! I'd like to explore it more myself one day. Thanks for watching!
Another great video, enjoyed the eperience you and your brother shared together. And appreciate the conservation shown toward the fish!
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed
Awesome fish, man!
Thank you!
Love our native brookies in the Appalachians but would love to catch cutthroat out west some day
Native eastern Brookies are always number one in my heart personally but the cutthroat are a VERY close second
Have you guys ever considered lahontan cutthroat in NV? Different fishing than what you guys normally do but fishing nonetheless. Good weekend trip. Great video though 🤙🏻
Wow, awesome nature
Freaking awesome my dude!!
Thank you man!
Enjoyed! Thanks
Killer content as always!
Is that thomas and thomas worth the money in the end or do your other euro rods do well enough?
Beautiful nature 👍👍
Come to my country we fishing together
Would a cutthroat go for a worm. Or would you catch alot less? I fished a nice trout stream that had browns, rainbows and brookies with a few flies and only caught a sucker. I didn't really know my flies very well, but I switched to a silver spinner and started catching. That's here in Quebec where people don't fly fish much. What do you think?
Are you kidding..you have no idea how many people flyfish here in Quebec
would you be able to comment back or do a video on some good areas to go fly fishing in GA. I know all of the general areas(blue ridge etc.) im just looking for some specific areas jsut to narrow it down a little but i live about 2 to 3 hours south of blue ridge and i want to get up there to try it out but i dont want to drive up 3 hours and waste a day because i cant find fish (i have already done this 2 times) 😂
HFA West is fantastic. Beautiful fish you guys are catching, Need a catch and cook, but not on those fish.
Thank you! Andrew has been making some amazing videos while I've been posting these.
Those high gradient streams, some of those waterfalls have to be impossible for the cutthroat trout to get above them to spawn. You guys got them as far as they could go upstream it seems. I love brookies, but they should not have been put in western waters to compete with the natives there. That ship has long since sailed. I enjoyed the video same as always.
Yeah I'm not sure if they would've been farther up the creek where it flattened out or not. We kind of got to the point where we had to commit to the creek or go back to where we knew we could catch them and we chose the latter of the two. I'd like to go back up in there one day and see if they're up higher or not
Welp… looks like I gotta head down to CO
👍
I caught a cutthroat trout in Idaho
what fly rod do I need for a great white.
11’ 2wt should do the trick.
First!
It's time to stop C&R for brown trout. They are neither native fish nor a 'precious resource'
Shit up
Dont like the way u handle fish...
Find a new hobby and stop fishing, he literally nothing wrong
Hey Richard, really? You are just jealous or stupid!!! Or both!!
Thanks for sharing. Try knitting.
Been a fly fisherman for over 50 years, cant take honest criticism, too bad..
