- Painted Lady Butterfly Migration
Painted Ladies have been migrating up from Mexico, heading northwest to the California coast, where they will continue their trek to points north. It's a one way trip for them, no return flight like Monarchs. Most will perish in the Fall when the temperature dips below freezing. Some will survive the Winter along the California coastline and extreme southern Arizona.

Saw this - we are in Palm Desert just below Cahuilla Hills and saw 1000's of these flying through our front and back yards, and all over the area, for days.
I caught one at my bottom steps in upper michigan. It's been too cold to release. Managed to bring him around a 2nd chance. I got a crash course in butterfly tending.
Guessing by the camera angle and view you are in the Coachella Valley, North PS or DHS?
