Great video very true and not to mention the quality of a disc will always be better than streaming .

Is regular bluray quality still better than streaming? Or is only 4k bluray better quality than streaming?

@@CanadianBacon6ix I've seen some people say that the 1080p disc beats 4K streaming but IMO I'm not sure this is true. 4K/DV streaming with Dolby Atmos (DD+) is just as good as the high bitrates you get on a disc. I've only done a few comparisons though.

Man weather streaming is really killing physical media or not, the way you talk about makes it makes me feel like it will always have a place 👏

That was why i started collecting at the beginning of this year. I was watching Stranger Things and thought to myself, what if they flicked the switch and all this went away? What would I miss? So i started by buying the vhs style stranger things blu ray

In the states we now only have Walmart as far as big box stores go.
For this to be viable, Walmart needs to have an affordable 4k player, and an affordable regular Blu-ray player right there in the section with the movies. Like the ub450 for under $150, and a good Blu-ray upscaler for under $100. The vinyl section is doing well now, because they have affordable players there right next to them. I don't even know if Walmart carries Blu-ray players, I haven't looked for them there.

The vinyl revival happened without big box stores selling them.

Not only is streaming content subject to removal whenever the company feels like taking it down, even if it's left up, it's also subject to censorship and music changes due to licenses expiring, etc. You have no control over these changes.

Yeah but once you have seen the film or show a couple of times that’s enough! They put in other films or shows to replace them . Suits me just fine .

@@knownpleasures That's not how I consume movies at all. You sound like you'd be better off renting, which is fine...we're just not the same customer type. I want to own all of the movies I love until I die. I enjoy having the collection on the shelf. I don't buy movies that I'm not going to watch multiple times.

Ads are ruining streaming, even interrupting the Video like commercials on TV. Even on videos you purchase there are ads before it starts on some platforms. Streaming is cool for me as an extra copy and very convenient when mobile, but nothing beats physical for me.

the thing with streaming, I know of movies that have been on different services in the past but haven’t come back in 2/3 years! I can think of a bunch of them.

I've always had faith in my BRD's,DVD's &CD's,and I cant understand how lovers of media,"shed and jettisoned" their discs (which I pick up for a song,in OP shops! ) Lol

You're already seeing it with music with the resurgence of vinyl and CD sales, so it'll happen with movies as well. Gamers (except PC gamers) are still hanging on to it as well, because you can't by a second hand digital game, or sell it once you've played it.
    And I hate reading ebooks.

I could see normies getting overwhelmed with the countless titles through countless service that it would seem easier for them to go to a shop that only has a finite number of titles, pick up a handful of things they wanna watch over the week then go back and sell them to then pick up different titles.
I don't see there being an influx of new collectors more so people will get the nostalgic feel of going into a shop and "renting" a movie like it was back in the day.
Too many options can be a bad thing and a local shop with limited options could make modern viewers feel more in control.

The internet as a whole is in a weird place right now I feel like it is kind of self correcting the unlimited access we have had to everything for pretty much our entire lifetime. People seem to be forming into more clearer groups and sub groups on the internet much like life before it. Which I think you kind of touched on in one of t=your earlier videos about how there aren't pop culture phenomena's like there used to be. I think with physical media it will be exactly the same it will gain it's own more dedicated followers and at that point people like all of us will be aware of good releases and all caught up and collected.

Everyone always forgets about having to go pay for freaking internet . If you don't have internet, you can't watch your streaming services
    Internet is 69.99.
So you're pretty much paying almost 100 dollars for everything in one month .
    Buy the damn dvd.
    No questions asked .

Sony just got the rights to distibute 28 days later as part of the 28 years later deal they made, i believe they are co-financing and helping to distibute it, its available in the us right now, not sure if it is australia or not, i still prefer physical media but its nice to at least see some deals being worked out for previously unavailable films

People keep saying this, but is it really true, other than a few releases, nobody seems to care.
The market declined by only 2% on the USA. That's signs of the turnaround that Jamie is suggesting.

Quote: The average price of DVDs and Blu-rays has skyrocketed in the United States in March 2024 and reached its peak in April of the same year at 44.06 U.S. dollars. As of February 2024, consumer electronics retailer Best Buy stopped selling DVDs and Blu-rays, leading to physical media becoming even more rarer, and more expensive. (It was around 30 2 years prior)

The physical media market only declined by 2% in the USA last year.
The decline has slowed substantially. If there is an increase next year, the market has stabilised.

If anything the trend is the opposite.. Streaming is nowhere at its peak, and physical media sales has to find its rock bottom..
