Great video Chris you should have shown me squeezing through that narrow space between the two buildings I think the audience would have got a good laugh over that one
Luckily I got to tour it 2-3x while most of it was still up. The Maple Hill remains and hoist area was still there. Along with the rotary dumper & car heating shed. It was really something.
Have to check that our with ya. My neighbor at work grew up in that area back in the 40's..he'd know what was there.. Just wish he could go hiking there with us.
If there’s any remains you need to head further back towards Maple Hill to see if the hoist head is still there. It’s something to see. On same property, stay to the left and go past where the St Nick Breaker Stood.
at 42;16 in the video you point to a road as route 54...well i guess it was for a short time....that was a bypass road put in around the mid to late 70's because they needed it not stop traffic on the highway as they tore down the old black steel bridge and put up the [ new ] bridge you are under now..if you ride the highway right after the bridge to mahanoy city you will see a blocked off road to your right just up from the bridge..same as going the opposite way to gilberton you will see a road to your left ..these are how you got around the bridge work back in the 70's
Well it was something that used a lot of electricity and had pipes going under ground to keep hot water flowing to some place... Maybe switches for the railroad but u would have to follow the pipes to where ever they went.
Railroad track for covering that big hole. Must have been the railroad that covered that hole with rr track. It was made to walk on because of railings.
That machine was owner and operated by Conrail back in the 80’s. I believe it was left behind when RBMN took over in 1990, and was based out of the St Nicholas yard. The machine was used to defrost the Mahanoy & Tamaqua tunnel (hanging icicles and tracks before a train went thru, my father was the operator of that machine. I believe RBMN pushed it to the end of the line that serves the breaker a few years after they took over.
Very cool finds!! Thanks for always sharing
Another awesome video from the Dynamic Duo of the Coal Cracker and Bobby V. Thanks alot for your explanations!!! Stay safe Guys.
Glad you enjoyed it
Nature has really reclaimed that area. I remember when there was several tracks going through there.
Wow great explore and finds. Very dangerous if your not careful. Please be careful. Thanks for the great video.

Chris from UGM has a drawing that shows every building and ID’s them. I have a copy somewhere.
I do believe there is a third slope in this area that we missed. I was looking at Lidar and it would seem so.

Maybe pump house for the silt pond?
The first building was a Weigh station for rail cars
Clean up that wooden water tower, put a roof on it and make an Air BnB out of it.

Used to thaw out frozen railroad switches / turnouts?
That was one great machine.

😁
Wooden tower...Petticoat Junction!!! LOL
Was the Switch House the weigh station?
I think the weigh station was the red building
@@coalcrackerchris I think you’re correct
What camera are you using now? Are you hand carrying it or attached to a head or chest mount? Seems better video quality than before.
Samsung galaxy 10e phone...
Maybe it was used to burn off or spray pesticides on vegetation on and around the track?
Thank God nothing knocked back 😆😆😆
